Top 5 US Players?

Top five US players (in no particular order).

Johnny Archer
Rodney Morris
Earl Strickland
Corey Deuel
Alex Pagulayan (I don't care what he says! He's Canadian and that's like the 51st state anyway!)
He's a filipino living in Canada. Not quite American bro.

Earl Strickland, Nick Varner, Buddy Hall, are all players whose time has come and "gone". Moreover, I don't find Earl's antics even remotely entertaining particularly when he fouls and dosen't call it when the ref doesn't see it (Charley Williams match). I would also put Archer in this group of has beens and I find his "nit" picking annoying. Past record is not indicative of present performance after all we are not talking about "records" we're talking present day performance. The young guns of today take out these older players in 9 ball.
Corey Duell
John Schmidt
Shane Van Boening
Gabe Owen
Chris Bartram

I'm always slightly puzzled when people refer to Johnny Archer as a has been and imply that his present accomplishments are not indicative of top-flight performance. If anyone would care to look at the AZBilliards money list for 2006, they will find that for the tournaments listed, only Ralf Souquet made more money playing nine-ball than Johnny. Not Efren, not Alex, and certainly none of the other Americans listed. Not bad for a has been!

Edit: I might also ask, "Who was the last American standing in the Derby Classic 9-ball event? IMHO, recent results indicate that Johnny is still the top American player. BTW, I think sjm's list is right on target!

Very accurate info, VIProfessor. I'm down with that, bro.

Archer is a SHARP RAZOR even if some think he is long in the tooth which of course, he's not.

Archer, Morris, Strickland, then who, Putnam, Jones, Deuel, Schmidt, Owen? Who?

Well I would say that statistaclly the top 5 (actually 6) players would have to be the current Team USA: Johnny Archer (captain), Mike Davis, Corey Deuel, Rodney Morris, John Schmidt, Earl Strickland

Not that I personally like the way all these players play.....(I personally can't watch one of them shoot pool because it looks painful)

I would think anything other than these players would just be opinion.

Born in the Phillipes. Lived 9/10 of his natural born life in Canada. He's Canadian.

...and Canada is the same thing as America anyway except for the whole metric system thing!!!

Top 5

1. Corey Deuel
2. Worm from Clarkesville
3. Jackson Michael
4. Waffle House Kevin
5. Earl Burton

IMO, Archer, Morris and Deuel should be a consensus. I don't see any rationale for leaving any of those three players off of a top-5 U.S. Players list.

After the top 3, I think there is some room for debate, but I will go with Gabe Owen and John Schmidt.

I must amend my earlier agreement with sjm and go with PoolBum. There's no way that John Schmidt should be left off the list at this point, considering his U.S. Open performance and his prowess at straight pool. Earl is simply too erratic, at this point, to merit serious consideration although there's no question that he's almost impossible to beat if he's feeling just right.

Me, too. I continue to consider Johnny Archer the best American pool player.

what about James Walden

I agree with Archer, Morris, Deuel. However, Mike Davis over James Walden and Earl Strickland is not close. James and Earl would have to be big favorites in the long run over Gabe as well.

That is the tourney money list which included the IPT event where everyone wasn't etc....

To put Mike above Archer, Harriman, Deuel, Schmidt, Morris, Strickland, Hall, Hatch, Van Boening and Owen -----don't think so. He is a great regional player and a good solid pro - along the lines of Hillbilly etc... and I might like Joyner more than him.....hmmmmm

I'm just saying Mike Davis can be included into a top 5 Americans. And for SURE the top 10. And I didnt put him above any of those guys, hes questionable for the top 5, for sure in the top 10. And by the way Archer harriman deuel schmidt morris and strickland im pretty sure were in the IPT.

Harriman did not make the IPT in what I consider a travesty. I don't want to argue this until the cows come home, but I just don't see how you could believe that Mike is at the same level as Corey, Hatch, Van Boening etc...I don't think he has to win against Nevel or or Putnam or Chohan or Charlie Williams - and any of the top 10 should be (and do) beat these guys regularly....
