As of 2015, I would put the top ten (born in) US players as the following in no particular order:

SVB
Mike Dechaine
Johnny Archer
Rodney Morris
Justin Bergman
Sky Woodward
Justin Hall
Corey Dueul
Earl Strickland
Oscar Dominguez

I know these lists change year to year as certain players peak and fade. Am I missing anyone that should be ahead of these guys. I know of a handful that are right there (Jeremy Sossei, Brandon Shuff, Dennis Hatch, etc.) so it comes down to personal preference. It would be cool for some guys would challenge their way on to a list so to speak.

What say you?

You got the list. Now write a pool show around it.. Johnnyt

Guessing you missed the Derby City 9-ball and Turning Stone as Jeremy Sossei's not on your list. He was brilliant in his third place finish at the Derby City 9-ball and was the highest American finisher behind Kiamco and Pagulayan. He was fourth at the last Turning Stone in a field of giants, the highest finishing American behind Shaw, Morra and Immonen.

My top ten, in in order:

1. Shane Van Boening
2. Mike Dechaine
3. Rodney Morris
4. Justin Hall
5. Jeremy Sossei
6. Justin Bergman
7. Oscar Dominguez
8. Brandon Shuff
9. Johnny Archer
10. Sky Woodward

This is a solid list. I also am high on sossei. I agree as someone else stated that Hatch could be on this list. I honestly have SVB, small gap, Dechaine, tiny gap, 3-7 on your list in really any order depending on the week, shuff archer Woodward hatch just slightly behind the group in front of them.

Hatch and Deska would round out my top 12. And, yeah, these twelve guys can all beat each other on any given day.

Shuff wants no part of Deska

I'll take your word as I know they are both Virginians, and therefore probably play each other often --- if you are from that part of the country, you would know. I've gotten to watch Brian just once. He certainly has plenty of game, and I hope to see him again soon.

I think if he is still playing his top speed Donnie Mills beats several of these players.

Excellent list.

And didn't Sossei finish runner up January 2014 Turning Stone, when Earl won? Jeremy was undefeated until the last match if I can remember correctly. 2014/2015 have been big years for him. I might just slot him in at 4 behind Morris and ahead of Hall.

Shouldn't Earl, Hatch, and Deuel all be in the top ten?

In comparison Shuff plays much more than Brian , the last couple times they met Brian's won pretty easy , it's scary to think how good Brian could play if he didn't work for a living

Deuel is not even in your top 12? Granted he does not play much anymore, but it was not "that" long ago he almost snapped off another US Open 9-ball if not for a red hot Appleton...

I will grant he has not done great things in a while, but there are guys on your list who have not done great things period.

When push comes to shove I think Deuel has a far better chance of having a flashback and snapping off a major event than a few of the players you list higher than him, in fact a few of those guys I just don't think could ever get there in a major international level field. Deuel does have that gear in him at rare times still.

Corey has actually won two major bar table events this year. Yes, the bar table degrades the accomplishment a bit, but he is still a great player.

Shouldn't Earl, Hatch, and Deuel all be in the top ten?

I've got Hatch at 11. Earl and Deuel are not in my top twelve Americans. When, in recent years, have either of them posted a top five at either Derby City or the US Open 9-ball in a rotation pool discipline? Earl has a pretty weak competitive resume since 2013 Turning Stone, and lost 25-11 to Dechaine when they played a long race. Deuel is clearly a top five one pocket player in America, but this is not a one pocket thread.

So you're saying you would stake Oscar vs Earl Strickland?
