tor lowry

I havent been able to find DVD's, only downloads. Call me old fashioned but Id rather have a DVD

Both Tor and Dave sell DVD's
I downloaded Tor's videos and burnt my own DVD's. Lots cheaper.
But I suspect the original DVDs have better menus.

You are correct to a point. That geometrically all the diamond systems and lengths match up. But when friction of cloth, distance object ball from rail and the wider the bank angle-even Tor says you have to compensate with varying degrees of running English/or subtracting numbers the father you are away from the rail. So when taking Tor's techniques onto a nine foot table, it was frustrating. I've tried out on a seven foot and they were spot on for sure.

It all sort of clicked once I read Freddy the Beards banking book and combined the theories with Tors methods. Now if I can get the consistent part down, I might be good.

I can believe that the friction of cloth and distance can make somewhat of a difference. But how can you just copy what he teaches on any table and expect the same results? The diffetence in the way the diamond system plays is pretty large between blue and red label Diamond tables. Now compare a Diamond to a Valley and you have a huge difference. When I played on Valleys frequently my baseline test was within a 1/2 diamond on most halfway decent Valleys. The first time I tried the exact same shot on a Diamond it was almost 1 1/2 diamomds different. Both were 7 foot tables. I find that my 9 foot Gold Crown with Artemis cushions plays very similar to 7 foot blue label Diamonds on the diamond system.

I checked my mailbox today on my way to a 4th of July party and found Tor's new video on CB control sitting in there. Just got home, so I won't have time to start watching it until tomorrow, but I'll report my feelings about it after I've seen it all. The trailer looks great, so I'm sure I'll be as pleased as I have been with all his material.

It comes with a lengthy PDF describing several pro runouts, and then shows you what the player used to execute the pattern he chose. I was allowed to download this PDF immediately after my PayPal payment was made, but I haven't had a chance to take it to the table yet. It looks pretty good, too.

This new video looks like a Godsend to a player like me, who is an OK shot maker but whose lack of knowledge of where and how to move the CB to execute runout patterns is holding him back from being a better player.

A lot of value for $40 IMHO.

First, I have the videos and all the other top ones as well. Over the years, in and out of pool, I find I have forgotten much and find them good refreshers. However, all the instructional videos are shot on 4x8' or less tables. This is a problem duplicating and executing the same if you play a 9' table. You simply do not get the same results,or at least that is my experience.

I recommend with that reservation.

I must be missing something because IMO, the only ones specific to table size are the kicking and banking.
All the rest are non specific and just require practice.

I've paid for and downloaded all of Tor's videos and rate them best in class! Low on fluff, high on good stuff and presented very well!

His videos are the best and I have the whole collection. I love the way it just flows, it is like he never takes a moment off when he is explaining something to you.

+1
i liked a lot what i saw on youtube, you can see he knows what he is doing and saying, i felt very identified with some of the thing he shows.

at some point I'm gonna get his DVD collection package
all his videos in 1 bundle is like 70 bucks

love his style just as so many others do

The latest (pattern play) is a 9'. I asked Tor about this and he confirmed 9'. I have to adjust some to get clearance on my 8' home table (actually less than 8' 44x88). With the 8' the position and speed control have to be more precise. The target areas can be quite small.

table size

The table size should not really matter should it? All tables are twice as long as they are wide. Obviously different tables bank and kick at different lengths, that should be the only difference regardless of size. Maybe I am wrong, I guess I will find out shortly.

Actually it does matter. The balls don't change size so the tolerances are tighter. On a 9' table one diamond off the rail is quite different than on a 7'. If you do his setups based on the grid supplied in half diamond increments you have to spread the balls apart a little to be able to get the necessary clearance on smaller tables. On my 44x88 home table I had only 2-3 inches for a target on some patterns. The same pattern would have 4-5 inches on a 9'. It also changes the effect of spin. With the balls much closer to the rails the spin has a different effect with less time to react.

is Tor still doing the 14 day challenge? I do enjoy his youtube videos. I'll try that 3000 shot drill whenever I get my own table.

Is it even possible to go from a C player to a B player in a matter of months?

I have and really enjoy his videos as well, he has a great style and is very understandable.

I tried the "2000" drill, and I have to admit, I wasn't prepared for how utterly BORING it is. I made it to about 250 and just HAD to pocket some balls. It definitely takes discipline.

My other concern with it is that, if your fundamentals aren't very sound, all you are doing is grooving a bad stroke, which will become even more difficult to fix later. If you're going to try this, I would suggest having someone review your fundamentals (or at least video yourself) before you begin.

I have a chance to work Tor in 5 days. Every things start to kick in. REMEMBER, Nothingwill work IF you do not put your time in. It was frustrated at the beginning, You have to keep trying...Then, you will feel your game is at a different level.
I never feel so confident in my game now, Thank you Tor.
I will never play the same way that I used to play any more....
Regards
Peter

Actually it applies to all, except for the last video on position play which as was stated was shot in a 9' table. You will not end up in the same position following the videos, You will have to compensate because of the space and travel distance. To be repetitive they are very good videos, they could be great OMn a 9'.

Something that would be a great question to ask Thor, " why was the last video shot in a 9'?"

I have them all and will buy this last one as well.

For various reasons, over the years I have played allot, been away for the game, played, been away. I have forgotten so many little things I'd is like I forgot what I forgot. Now and then things start popping back in my mind...little things like racking order in 9b.all. It is s sign of age

I tried to find out about the 14 day challenge or whatever number it is and go no real answer back. I do agree his first video was the biggest change in my game that i can remember. I had alway swear by Dr Dave and still do but there is a difference in the two, and i think combining the two "with the right mind" could make a really great player. Advancing in pool 'or most things i guess" is a marathon and not a sprint, so some go into VEPS and get info overload or not put the time into Tor's and then feel like it was the material. It reminds me of my studies on why diets fail most people, expectation and lack of proper knowledge usually does the trick.

I get to practice like once a week now if i'm lucky, so i'll wait on the position play dvd before i get it, while i still work on the first one.
