Let's suppose a customer contacts you, and asks to meet up. When time allows, the customer comes to your shop, and decides he really likes your cues. He reaches into his pocket and pulls out $5,000 in cash and hands it to you.

He asks that you make whatever cue that you want, with complete creative freedom, with a few minor limitations. These limitations are as follows:

No Ivory
No silver, gold, diamonds etc (no high dollar material bling, unless it is wood)

aside from that, you can build WHATEVER you want.

what would you build and why?

I would go all out with veneer work and burl woods. For that money I would load the cue with wood details. The reason is that is what would give him the best dollar value in the cue if I am not allowed to put gems and such in it.

I actually had someone pretty much do that once, but the price was $4000, and he liked Ivory. I threw a bunch of rubies in it to surprise him and he gave me a $500 tip.

That's awesome!!! Thanks Chris!

I'd call Dennis Searing and get a blank from him.
No cue is worth 5K unless it has jewels I think.

That is where I would reach outside the box and build something that I havent never built before. I have a feeling it would involve several different butterflies inlaid ring work and veneered full splice. Thats just to get started. Might even consider making my first full box cue. Something I have been thinking about for some time.
