Tough Shots!

This is a tough shot that I first saw a local player named Wardell shoot this shot here in New Orleans maybe 15 years ago. I believe he said he had developed the shot himself, much like one of Vernon Elliott's shots
Wardell would ask for 50 shots but would make it in under 25 although he would sweat pretty hard at 20.

I like shots that came up in a gambling game which are unique although this isn't one of them.

I'll have to try that shot!

Here's one I made on the monk a few years back at Classics Billiards in Phoenixville Pa. He was passing thru and stopped in to hit some balls. Funny thing was at the time i was reading his book! He gave me 5 tries, and I made it on the 3rd. we did a bunch of stroke shots that day...He seems kind of hippyish in some of his books, but He's a great guy in person, and signed my book.

BTW....Russell Parsons from Delaware used to shoot this shot with the CB resting ON the top of the rail!!!.....10 tries for $20...I lost a 3 times on that gaff!:D

That's stout. Making this in only 3 tries will earn my respect for life. I might could make it in 50 tries.

Here's an even tougher one...

I used to gamble on this shot, many years ago...cut the one ball backwards, into the close corner pocket. I've made in in under 5 tries, but used to bet on 50, and win every time.

Thanks,

I feature this shot in my book, Banking With The Beard on page 156. It's a favorite of Vernon Eliot's, and he didnt need no 50 shots. Vernon broke all the smart guys at Johnson City in 1972 when they bet him he couldnt make it in TWO tries, and that aint pool gossip, that's gospel!

TWO TRIES? I am truly sorry I missed seeing Mr. Eliot play.

Althought we got an "AMEN" for you brother!

To be honest Hal, I lost the money on that shot BEFORE I met the Monk, so I had an idea how to hit it. Most people stroke it wrong by using too much low left.....I actually made it hitting around 10 oclock...

It might be just me, but to me it looks like the cue-ball will knock... no?

Gerry...for the CB to curve as much as is shown in the diagram, and still aim at 10:00, you'd HAVE to elevate the cuestick considerably, which then still applies what would be 'draw with english' (or aiming at 8:00 with a more level cue). If you shot this shot with a reasonably level cue, and aimed at 10:00, the CB would not arc like that, but would still come off the bottom rail correctly, making the shot possible. jmo

Scott,

I think I showed you this shot when you came through El Paso a few years ago. I also have another version of this shot where I make it in the corner. Shots such as this one come up all the time and you'll learn little tricks like this when you challenge yourself to get out of these traps.

Here is the corner pocket version which is actually easier to make.
This ball will go straight into the side pocket. Shoot it at lightning speed. It compresses the rail and goes straight in.

Here are the steps for the WEI table (old one, which you can get to from the Links button above):
1. Copy WEI data (everything from START to END, including START and END) - select the text, press CTRL+C or right-click and choose Copy
2. At the top of this page, click Links --> WEI Table
3. Click the Paste button (just below the lower right hand corner pocket)

Here are the steps for cuetable.com:
1. Copy WEI data (just like step one above)
2. Open a new browser instance or new tab if you're using a tabbed browser and go to http://cuetable.com/P/index.html
3. Click the Import Data button (looks like the Play button on a CD player)
