Tournament Opinions Please

Provide more added money. All tournament players LOVE ADDED MONEY.

Those sexy pictures are disgusting. When will you be posting more?

So, if I follow you closely here, you suggest very low entry, a very cheap calcutta, and tons of added money?

I think it's important for the tournament directors to determine what the goal of the tournament is. If it is to offer top heavy payouts that will benefit mostly only those who do nothing besides play pool, or to encourage larger fields with a deeper payout. I don't go to tournaments because of the money. Pool is unique in that amateurs and "professionals" will play in the same tournaments. This is a statement for the sorry state of pool when top players have to play in small tournaments to make a few bucks. Lewis and Paul are the best tournament directors around. Anyone in the area of a Fast Eddie's tournament should sign up. The tournaments are run on time and without hassles. For an entry fee of $65, they can't be beat.

Thanks Jim,, we really appreciate that.

Our goal has always been to have an affordable entry, with healthy added money,, and to pay 25% of the field with a consistent payout. The percentages used are the same formula used for each and every event.

I also believe each and every player should be treated equally and nobody is above the rules. We have had issues with this and we have always tried to deal with this head on. I'm amazed that over the 5 plus year period how few problems we have had.

To generate money for a tour is tough. Much tougher than one can realize. I wish we could pay everyone who shows, but this obviously isn't possible. 100% pay to play and 75% go home with no reward for his//her efforts and often disappointed. Until though someone can create a better formula or plan, this is the one we sill stick with.

All though, are very much appreciated and valued, not just the top players.

This will will definately generate some more suggestions .

you nit lunch buckets that like that 25% pay out need to stay out the way and sit the stands. If you pay anymore than 10% of the field you cant afford to travel to go to any of them.

Most importantly for me is that the TD shows no favoritism. If Efren Reyes comes in 5 minutes late for his match, then he forfeits -- NO EXCEPTIONS.

I couldn't agree more with this suggestion. All too many times have I seen this take place for the "higher profile" players in many a different tournament, and it does nothing but infuriate the majority of the players (and moreso the opponents of said "higher profile" players).

roosterman,

2 things:

- Joining this forum and calling fellow posters "nit lunch buckets" is probably not such a good idea. There are a wide range of players that post on here and many of them are high caliber... however, everyone deserves respect, regardless of ability.

- Paying 10% of a field... if there was a tournament that had 60 players, you suggest that only the top 6 be paid. If, let's say 2k was added, and the entry was 100, the kitty would be 8000. 8000 to 6 players would make for A LOT of unhappy players. Even top pros have off days and sometimes don't place as high as they should. Your logic seems to suggest that you should always place high or don't bother showing up. Everyone has off days.

Thanks. I am glad somebody read my tournament-related post. :)

I have seen this happen so many times. It is infuriating, as you say, to the rest of the players.

I was at a VERY high-profile event one time, and some European players were given byes in the tournament. They were finishing up a tournament in Europe the same day this VERY high-profile event began, and so it was thought prudent to give them byes.

Meanwhile, the rest of us schmucks were there the night of the players meeting, which is supposed to be MANDATORY, and incurred 3 extra nights of hotel and other associated expenses, in addition to starting at the bottom of the tournament chart.

Interestingly, this is one of many reasons why Mike Zuglan initiated the Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour. He told me that he was tired of the favoritism he witnessed on the tournament trail and wanted to create a tour environment where all players are treated equal.

Idea

I know that poolroom owners add money to tournaments.... I also know that a lot of tours pocket some money for there efforts.. But alot take to much... Then they raffle off cues and pocket that money....

Fantasy--- Lets say Rat Cues Sponsors a tour... They will give product to the tour to sell, raffle, give away or what have you... FREE FREE Stuff giving to tour...

So, in retrospect,,,, Take the FREE cue, raffle it off ,then add the take from the raffle back into the tournament, and not back in TD's pocket..

JUST A THOUGHT

Could make for better payouts... I know for a fact raffles generate $500 to $1000 in certain areas..

I wanted to thank you all for the many great suggestions. Every last one of them I have relayed to the tour and hope to continue making the players happy.

Thanks again.

Lodini, I think they've all earned just one more pic for being such good sports! :)

GG11,

Rep to you for logging/reading all the suggestions. I can see that running a tour can be very difficult. You are making great strides to assure success.

Much luck to the tour you are helping.

Ouch! There is something severely wrong with that picture. I think I'd rather see Joe Theismann's shin get turned into a knee (over and over). that was less revolting.

HAHAHA .. ok, so I've had a bout with food poisoning for the last 3 days! NOT FUN!

This is the first thing in 3 days that literally made me laugh out loud. I don't know if it's the overly happy Grady guy or the demure Earl! :) LOLHAHA

Very Good Work Cleary!

No, a very healthy entry tournament fee is what I suggest.

25% of the field gets paid. The money that is paid out needs to be spread around more generously with the elite getting less than what is generally doled out.

In a 64 person field, I suggest 16 people be paid in the following percentages for each place:
25%, 15%, 10%, 8%, 6,%,6%, 5%, 5%, 3%, 3%, 3%, 3%, 2%, 2%, 2%, 2%.

The calcutta can go to hell for all I care, especially if it only pays a select few. Oh, wait a minute, in some places it already has. ;)

Tons of added money? No, that seems a little much.

Hot sun beating down
Burning my feet just walking around

Hot sun making me sweat
Gators getting close, hasn't got me yet

I can't dance, I can't talk
Only thing about me is the way I walk
I can't dance, I can't sing
I'm just standing here selling everything

Blue jeans sitting on the beach
Her dog is talking to me, but she's out of reach

She's got a body under that shirt
But all she wants to do is rub my face in the dirt

Cos, I can't dance, I can't talk
Only thing about me is the way I walk
I can't dance, I can't sing
I'm just standing here selling

Oh and checking everything is in place
You never know who's looking on

Young punk spilling beer on my shoes
Fat guy's talking to me trying to steal my blues

Thick smoke, see her smiling through
I never thought so much could happen just shooting pool

But I can't dance, I can't talk
The only thing about me is the way that I walk
I can't dance, I can't sing
I'm just standing here selling

Oh and checking everything is in place
You never know who's looking on
A perfect body with a perfect face

No, I can't dance, I can't talk
The only thing about me is the way I walk
No, I can't dance, I can't sing
I'm just standing here selling everything

But I can walk
No I can't dance
No no no I can't dance
No I said I can't sing
But I can walk
