Tours ?

I've been pondering this question for quite some time. Since I am biased I need to get some input from outsiders.

The question is:

What constitutes a tour ?
or
What requirements do you (in your opinion), think makes a tour something to be called a tour ?


Personally, I think there should be a true definition that defines a tour from a series. Recently I have noticed many events, promoters calling there events a tour but IMO I don't believe many are actually true tours.

What's your opinion on this ?

Well i think a tour should be defined as a series of tournaments, staged at DIFFERENT sites throughout their region. I only know of 1 organization that calls itself a tour and has all their events in 1 place. That i would just call a monthly tournament. And no, tour is not short for tournament. A tour travels from site to site. This is the best definition or description i could give. Seems like the most logical anyway...................mike

I agree, but I think it should be in multiple states. I don't think it's a tour if it's in the same city, but if it involves...say a tri-state area then to me it's a tour.

If it is multiple events, held at multiple locations owned by different people, on preset dates, and all events are under the rules of a single sanctioning body, give it a name and call it a tour if it pleases someone.

Series, tour, I have seen the name interchanged too much to be inclined to split hairs. If someone is offering some organization and structure to our sport along with ethical management, I'm all for it whatever you call it!

I also think a tour is a series of tournaments that is run by a group of promoters. It sahould of 6 or more tournaments scheduled in advance in different poolrooms whether it be in one state or several near each other. A tour is not in one city...I think it should be organized, and consistent in its rules and format. I think a schedule should be made up after the first of the year the showing the entire season, without deviation. The players should have one calendar/schedule for the season and so they know where their next event is without surprises or changes to the schedule.

I agree this isn't a tour either. Here in upstate NY we call them traveling leagues.

IMO, I think a Tour is a series of tournies that "tour" around to different cities and even different states. Also, I think what makes up a tour is a points system or some sort of qualification to play in a year end event. I definitely think the Viking Tour qualifies as a Tour.

To me, the only three qualifications for a pool tour are:

1) a series of interrelated pool competitions played at a variety of venues.

2) a pre-announced tour schedule that ensures that players wishing to participate have a proper opportunity to plan their itineraries.

3) a ranking system that builds up to the crowning of player(s) of the year, with additional prizes given to the player(s) of the year.

I still say if some one would start a senior tour of players 55yr and older, you would have no problem with getting a good field of players, as mezz, god pless him had no problem.where is the help for the seniors, look back if not for us holding on the game would still be in the dark ages!!! if i was not so dam old i would do it myself!!!! merry christmas old you old farts!!!! No....something that GIVES to the players. I dont remember anyone that cashed in a Viking Event getting their prize money 11% at a time up to 33%. BIG difference between a Tour and a SCAM!
