Travel Cue

I travel a lot for business and do not wish to take the risks of something happening to my cue.

If my house were burning down it would probably be the first thing I would grab.

Currently I play with a southwest 6 pointer (cocobolo points and maple forearm) and would like to find a cue that plays similar for travel. I had the shaft taper pulled back just a touch. This cue hits VERY hard especially with the Moori Medium tips I have on it

Who makes a cue that would play similar that would be plain enough and low cost enough that I would not be heart broken if it were stolen.

It's hard for anybody to answer this. Once you are used to a specific cue, alternating play for short times is going to feel stange.

If you want the quality of your play to be consistent, have you considered having a plain jane butt built to match your Southwest shaft? A cue maker could pretty closely match the weight, wrap and taper of your SouthWest handle and fit it to your regular SouthWest shaft.

I had a nice quality sneaky pete butt that I used with my regular playing shaft for travel and it pretty much felt like the same cue to me. I had to make no adjustments.

I realize that losing a Southwest shaft would still be an unhappy thing, but hopefully you have a duplicate you leave at home too.

I was in the same position. I'm not about to leave a Ginacue in my hotel room all day or in the trunk of a car while I'm at work, nor give the airline a chance to lose it.

I spent a couple hundred on a lower end McD. If it disappears my world won't come to an end, and if it warps its covered under warranty. Viking, Pechauer, etc. have similar warranties.

No, it doesn't feel like my playing cue but who cares? It serves it's purpose of being something half decent to play with so I don't have to use a house cue and not worry about it every second.

The next time you're at a show or big tournament stop by the cue dealers and try out a bunch of low end cues and sneakies until you find one that matches the feel of your SW.
Just ordering one and hoping it has the right feel, is a shot in the dark.
