TRAVEL/LODGING: Vegas IPT Tournament

Heh, can you imagine JAM in a dominatrix outfit leading a shackled Keith on all fours into the IPT arena, carefully unlocking his restraints with a small silver key on a chain around her neck, handing him his cue and whispering his control word into his ear?
This sounds like it comes from experience. :)

Cheap on the strip close to the venetian is the imperial palace. It sucks basically but is OK. Off the strip I would stay at the orleans myself. It costs maybe half on weekends and a lot less during the week I would guess. One problem with the venetian is they are so solid during the week their rates can be higher. I have stayed at both the orleans and venetian. Venetian is nicer and a much better location, but the orleans is new enough and nice enough. Cabs may eat up some of the price difference. I would rent a car cheap tho, since I bet keith wants to go around some.

Restaurants at the venetian are excellent BTW. Spend some winnings on that. Delmonico is the best steak in town. Other restaurants good too.

Hi Jam,
thanks for doing some research!

Was the $190 a night at the host venue per person or per room?

Obviously staying at the host venue would be preferable, but if I can save several hundred staying nearby, it might be worthwhile. Have to look at what's available.

Also hoping the IPT can come out with a decent deal for us at the host venue before I commit to anything. As they are placing such a high emphasis on player hospitality at the actual playing venue, it would make some sense that they afford a similar attitude toward our overnight accommodations.

And it would be great to have a place for all the payers and friends to gather in the after hours for some matching up, getting in stroke, woofing etc. The KOH lacked that aspect of a tourney atmosphere.

My friend in Vegas says:

That area of the Strip is where all the highest priced hotels are. I guess the cheapest within walking distance would be the Imperial Palace Hotel. You might be able to get a room for about $100 per night there. It also depends if it is a weekday or a weekend as all hotels are more expensive on the weekends.

Hope that helps.

Thanks to all for the very helpful suggestions provided in this thread. I am going to do a little more investigating and follow through on some of the tips.

Colin, the PLAYER's rate for the Venetian is $179. With 9-percent tax, it comes to $195.11 per night. The tournament dates are July 22-30. I do not know WHEN the players meeting will occur, though, but it looks like the players will be in competition for at least 8 days.

When I went to the Venetian website -- http://www.venetian.com -- I discovered that the $179 is indeed a good rate for this hotel.

The regular rates for the Venetian on July 22-28 (7 days), as an example, are as follows:

$269.00 $269.00 $269.00 $269.00 $269.00 $269.00 $269.00
Venetian Luxury Suite View-1 king bed Total: $1,883.00

$459.00 $459.00 $459.00 $459.00 $459.00 $459.00 $459.00
Venezia Concierge Palazzo Suite-1 king bed Total: $3,213.00

$299.00 $299.00 $299.00 $299.00 $299.00 $299.00 $299.00
Venezia Luxury Suite-1 king bed Total: $2,093.00

$329.00 $329.00 $329.00 $329.00 $329.00 $329.00 $329.00
Venezia Luxury Suite View-1 king bed Total: $2,303.00

Venezia Terazzo Suite-2 queen beds Total: $2,513.00

It is nice to be able to stay at the SAME place where the tournament will be held, IMHO. I think it will be advantageous for some players to share a room if they elect to stay at the Venetian, but this option isn't feasible for some. :o

When I called the Venetian, the $179 player's rate will cover two people. However, I did read on the website that they charge $35 extra per night for each extra person. Also, they require a deposit, if you do make reservations, for one day's stay. You may cancel and get your money back if you give them a 14-day notice.

Ain't it the truth! :D Keith knows Vegas very well. He has a friend there in which we could stay for FREE -- he says -- but I'm thinking it would be better to stay on site because of the convenience. Since this will be my FIRST time in Vegas since I was a young girl, I am going to look at this as a very expensive pool vacation. Fortunately, I have no gambling addiction and can walk right by those casino game rooms, and Keith better brace himself for a choke collar and blinders as opposed to a leash. :D

If I was in this situation I would probably stay with the friend at the beginning (when you have few matches) stay at the Venetian for a few days in the middle (when most of the matches are played) and stay at the friend's again toward the end (if I've been eliminated but waiting for my flight date) or UPGRADE toward the end if I'm still in and guaranteed bucko bucks (which I will be cheering for Keith that this is the case for him).

Max Eberle has a website with discounted travel on it. www.maxeberle.com.

Buying tickets from him might help another pool player out, plus you may get some great discounts on air, car, and hotel. Also, check out his fantastic art.

www.motel6.com The location on Tropicana is a $10 taxi ride from the Venetian. Rate is $67 per night plus tax. I stayed there once for the Mosconi Cup as I was not comfortable paying ~200 at the MGM Grand. You could rent a car and eat very, very nicely for the difference.

Circus Circus, the Sahara and the Frontier are all about $70-$80 or so.

The monorail is working now, and I think the daily charge is $10. It stops close to but not at the Venetian:

I am now torn as to where to stay as well. I checked on my discounted condos deal and it is a very good price - $622 total for a week for a 2 bedroom (2 actual separate units) with full kitchens/washer/dryer/dishes/living room/dining room/2 bathrooms/pool/jacuzzi/workout room/wireless internet in the lobby (not sure how far it reaches), etc.

It is a 5 star resort and is not on the strip. It offers shuttle service only as far as the Tropicana, every 1/2 hour until 2 am. At 2pm they make a run to the grocery store. At 5:30, they switch to every hour service.

There is a strip trolley that can take us to the Venetian that comes every 1/2 hour which costs $5/all day and runs from 9:30am to 1:30am.

Each unit has a King size bed and the couches fold out to a Q size, so altogether, it sleeps 8. If we split with 3 other couples, it would only be $155.50 total, or $22.21/night.

The first 2 pics are of the Grandview. The 2nd 2 pics are of the Cliffs.

The Cliffs is similar, except it is a true 2 BR unit and sleeps 6 (a Q in each bedroom plus the Q sofa), so that divided between 3 couples, the cost would be $207.33 or about $30/night.

Their shuttle takes you to the Bellagio, so that is within walking distance of the Venetian, so the trolley fare would be saved. It runs from 10am to midnight every hour.

I like spreading out, but some people don't like sharing with other people unless you know/trust them well. The price is the same whether I get the 1 unit or 2 unit. I do have one guy that wants to share, so I could always just get the two bedroom and let him have the other bedroom, because the price is the same. It's also cheaper to cook every once in awhile.

The biggest problem is that I can only get it by the week, so we would either have to move and go somewhere else for a few days, or rent for another whole week, so I am torn as to what to do. It may be worth it to rent for another week, because depending when everyone arrives, it could be another 4 days anyway. Even $415/couple wouldn't be that bad for 11 days. The people on the couches should probably get a break on price.

I also found a hotel that is about a 10 minute walk away that charges $70/weekend and $39 Sun-Thursday. It is a 2 star and pretty standard. That is the 5th picture. Any suggestions?

I have had the pleasure of staying at the host hotel before. I'm not sure who has acually checked, but it is a suite only hotel. They have diffrent suites. The one I stayed in was mid level, about 375 a night if I recall correctly. It had two queen size beds, and a sunk in living room. With 4 chairs, a couch and a love seat. More than enough room if players got together. I've been to vegas quite a few times, stayed at a diffrent pretty much each time, and thier room was far and above the rest.

P.S. Anyone staying there will gain an aprrication for the flat screen tv in front of the toilet...lol

Looks like you are doing your homework. Of your optionss, I rate them
as such:

1) Option #2 as the best all around.
2) Options #1 comes in 2nd.
#) Option 3 stays last on the list.

Considering the sharing opton, who gets in the bathroom option, and
convenience for getting to the Venetian. Have you checked at the
Palace Station? Reasonable room and suite rates, by day or week.
Off the strip to the west of the Sands (across the bridge), one of the easiest Casinos for gambling. FREE shuttle buses that usually go to
major events (hotels) being held

I've been surfing all day for some good deals, & you may want to check out prices on www.travelocity.com , they had the very best prices I could find, especially if you lump air & hotel. (they offer many different hotels, or you can even put in your choice of hotel, such as venetian)
It got even cheaper departing from some other nearby cities. For instance, rather than us fly out of Wichita, if we would drive and depart from Tulsa it is alot less expensive, well worth our driving to Tulsa to save a ton.
Our best friends live there so we don't even need accomodations, but I've just been checking all avenues, & thought I would share what I discovered.

SouthWest Management Group
You can get a two to four bedroom condo for $1500 to $3000 for the month.

I always get a condo and I have never paid more than $100 a night to lodge four or more people. I have had up to eight in a three bedroom condo with a hot tub and a pool.

2920 S Rainbow Blvd Ste 120
Las Vegas, NV 89146-6214
(702) 871-5177

Ask for Alta Baker and please be sure to mention that John Barton sent you (I need brownie points) :-)

I know some of you want to be on-site but let me tell you that going to a home is also really, really nice. From what I understand Kevin will provide first class amenities there at the venue so there probably won't be much need to stay on site.

Just my 02cts.

Wow! I knew vegas was expensive but who would rent a room at the Venetian for $459 a night? It's a good thing the IPT is offering up some real dough because either way you cut it the travel expenses for this one are gonna far exceed that of a regular tourny.

I got an email from one of the players and thought I would let you all know what he found out (all spelling errors are his, lol):

I have done a lot of research & checking into many Hotel options starting at the Venetian to on the Strip to off the Strip. I have done a very meticulous insight into the but very important small things that most people never realize till after they booked and arrived. I did a pretty extensive research for a couple of weeks and many hours. My indept research has found that there is no real beneficial reason to stay on-site @ the very expensive Venetian Hotel IF the trip is Properly Planned out ahead of time with the right choice of Hotel.
The Venetian is a HUGH Hotel & Casino. The property and hotel towers, casino floor and convention/ballroom area is VERY LARGE, a long ass walk from the hotel suites to the tournament room. The Tournament room at the Venetian is in the Convention & Grand Ballroom Area all the way at the far left back end of the Building(s) ( Far Left Back end of the PROPERTY). Any players rooming in any Tower Section of the Venetian is going to have a LONG WALK from their hotel suite tower down the elevators thru the Casino, thru the retail etc section, over the bridge to get to the tournament room at the far left rear end of the property. the Venetian is HUGH in size and the suites are expensive, every thing at the Venetian is going to be expensive. It's an upper class 5 star hotel for the wealthy and wanna be wealthy. A suite will cost over 3000 for 10days.

My reasoning tells me it's going to cost LESS than 1/3 the price to stay 1 mile away in a 2 room suite the same size as a Venetian Suite doing a package deal (air/hotel/car). There is a separate REAR entrance & parking lot right at the tournament room with it's own parking lot close to the entrance. There is a back road entrance to the Venetian's Convention area & parking lot. It will only take a few minutes by car to drive 1 mile from MY HOTEL Choice to the tournament room with LESS of a walk to get from MY Hotel suite Choice to the tournament room. If rooming inside the Venetian it's going to take a LONG ASS 10+ minute walk plus cost more than 3 times more.

My reasoning tells me if I'm going to Vegas I mize as well make a REAL trip of it. The tournament is 12hrs per day. There's NO time at all to enjoy Las Vegas if checking in on the 22nd and going to the meeting a 5pm and then starting play the following morning at 10am till after 12 midnight and continuing this same routine till the final on the 30th (get paid) and then fly home... the entire time i going to be sleeping and being inside the tournament room OR losing money inside the casino??? Linda's note - only a very few will be playing all the way up to the end.

I don't know about anyone else BUT me I am making sure I come home with as much money as possible without wasting any money. PLUS if I'm going to be in Vegas I want to ENJOY Las Vegas. Maybe see the grand canyon and GO to the local poolroom (WIN MONEY, get into some action).

here is a picture of the hotel suite with amenities i picked out.. 1 mile away off strip with little traffic and a very short back road drive to the parking lot at the Venetian's Convention entrance.... this is SMART,,, the hotel suite I picked out is just about as nice as the expensive Venetian suite (so we don't have marble walls, big deal). Look at the suite below,,, NOT BAD ha? Good size, 2 TV's, 2 rooms, a refrigerator kit area, computer hook ups. A full size sofa bed in the living room.

Amenities included: Separate living room and bedroom areas. Living room features full-size sofa sleeper, arm chair and coffee table, 27" remote controlled color TV with free cable including HBO, CNN, and ESPN as well as pay-per-view movies and Nintendo, well-lit desk and chair, and dining area with table and two chairs, and wet bar with coffeemaker and refrigerator. Bedroom includes two queen-size beds, additional 27" TV and vanity area. Bathroom includes an additional large vanity area.

We all drive to the tourn room together and leave together OR there are cheap cabs if anyone wants to go back to the room etc,,, or anyone can use the car if the others are playing etc. We will have 1 car w/unlimited use of miles. We have to pay for gas. No one drives who doesn't have proof of a valid DL and/or their name is not included on the rental agreement for insurance reasons, no exceptions.

Don't ask me the name of the hotel yet because I don't want this hotel to book up full. Many hotels are already booked for week-ends in July and this hotel ONLY has a limited number of week-ends open in July... This hotel is already booked full for the weekends in June and will soon be booked full on the weekends in July.
This is a nice clean and quiet 3-1/2 star hotel with elevators free parking good reviews walking distance to affordable fast food close to the Venetion and close to the main strip (walking distance).

Another note, I will let you know the name of this hotel if and when I find out.
