Travelling (by Plane) with Cues? Do/Must you check in?

I'm in Asia and i've never brought a cue into the states or vice versa. I know how an*l TSA gets and from what i gather Pool Cues needs to be checked in. What about for E.U, Australia...just trying to understand the regulations better.

For example in China, I hand carry all my cues from either a 1x2 to a 4x8 case. No problem at all, just chuck them in the overhead compartment. They're real strict with LAG ruling (Liquid, Aerosol and Gel) and Batteries, but they never have any problem with cues.

I do the same for Singapore and and never had any problems either, so when i travel between Singapore and China i always hand carry my cues. That's the only reason why i'd even bring my cues between the 2 countries cos i'm allowed to hand carry...if i had to check in i'll be buying a cheap sneaky..

Curious how it's like for the rest of the world?

In europe you are not allowed to carry the cues with you because you could use them as a "weapon" so you have to check them in..

I always have nightmares when I check in my cues because I know they throw the things like hell..:(

friend of mine has a travelling bag (i think from "classic") where 2 pool cases can be carried. for eurotour stops where he takes the plane he uses this bag, lots of newspapers and his case inside. he never had a problem. the bag cost him 70 euros i think :o

So he checks in both cases?

If you friend needs to check in his cue case i'd strongly recommend a basic case from JB. Tough on the outside, great support on the inside.

Here in Vietnam I cant hand carry my cues :(

Now that is surprising...i would've have thought that if Singapore is that lax with the ruling it should be ok with Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines...still looking to hear from more people..

A hard case that has that PVC tube will be more than enough to protect the cue while its in the checked cargo. A soft case no way in hell would i even attempt to try.

My 3X7 Instroke has made it thru some ruff stuff the case will take a beating but the cues are very well protected its been thru the worst of the worst on Military cargo flights where its a 100% worse than commercial airline cargo.

But i think any case with PVC tubes will be just fine.

I have a hard case for my cues and then put them in my golf clubs travel bag. Haven't had any issues so far. Was very annoyed to see somebody carry a fishing rod on board on my last flight while my cues were below...

Whenever I have gone to Vegas for tournaments I always just ship it over. I also have a travel case for them but i still don't trust the airlines enough to have them stow it.

My team is going to Vegas in August and I was thinking about a suitcase with all of our cases in it. What do you guys think? Good or bad idea?

Next time I go Vegas, I'm shipping my cues to the hotel ahead of time. Airlines ruined my favorite putter and refused to pay anything. They're idiots.

I'd lean towards the 'bad' idea side. Reasoning would be, it would totally suck if the airline happened to lose the one suitcase with all the cues.

I have thought about that, So what do you suggest? Just making sure you take a hard case and check the case?

I stuff them in my pants and smile at the ladies. Never had a problem yet.

You're not Derek Smalls, are you?

Thats a great idea, some of the travel sports bags are the ticket. Just make sure the cases are seperated by some materials and pad them like you would sending something fragile.

didn't really consider that, but yeah that would really suck..
