Trying a new tip

How about a break from covid and Afghanistan.
I have always said that I thought solid tips were just as good as layered tips and of course cheaper.
Well I have gone over to the dark side and had a Tiger Sniper installed.
I have not played with it yet.
Anybody else used this tip?
Oh yeah it was $31.00 installed! Good grief.

Got one on the CF shaft I bought. Came thataway from the factory. Never miscued so much in my life, or not since I learned which end of the cue to use to hit the cue ball! Is it the tip? Is it the shaft? Is it the combination?

I hardly ever miscue.
If I find that I start miscuing a lot I have no problem replacing it with a solid tip.

I haven't been wowed by any tip since a Moori in the 90's
I played with a Sniper for a few years then for whatever reason I tried a Kamui. Stuck with that a few years then landed on UltraSkin.
Don't know why other than I had some old Kamui tip laying around and accidentally put on a hard brown one. Ended up liking it but it chunked out on me. Precision Tips was what I went to on recommendation of a capable cue builder. They're fine but not as hard as I'd like, so looking for something else. Maybe go back to UltraSkin IDK. I too don't appreciate the high prices of the so called premium tips. Maybe I'll go way back in time and glue on a hard water buffalo tip.

If I remember right I needed to scuff the Sniper every session. That was the only thing someone might feel is unacceptable.

I can't remember the last time I miscued with my own version of the Elkmaster Pro, nothing more than a sorted Elkmaster. The CF shaft is fun, wish I could get on a snooker table with it. I think I will have to swap tips, I think an Elkmaster might be just the ticket. Of course I think that about most cues and shafts.

Why doesn't anyone offer shafts naked knowing we all have many different tip preferences?

I am moving away from layered softer tips to the solid harder tips like Triangle. Ultraskin soft mushroom like crazy. 1990s Moori were my favorite of all time. My first sniper was great- second one - not so great.

I tried the snipers after I got sick of kamui glazing over about 10 years ago. The tip performed good, you'll probably like it.

I have not found a layered tip I like and keep coming back to the Triangle. But they were hit and miss it seemed. Had one installed a week ago and it was so hard it would not take chalk at all. Sounded like a bat hitting a brick thud. Then went back the next had another one installed it played fine. The triangle cost me $10 bux to get installed but bad part is is cost $20 bux in gas to drive up there. Garczar has been telling me about Thorobred tips. Want to try them.

Seyberts, you buy a cue, and you can choose the tip and when it's sent it will be installed. Yes, there is an upcharge but nice to get it the way you want it and be on our front porch in a week or so ;)
