Trying to let everyone know your in the "know"

I think the point everyone else was trying to make is that the slang IS necessary. It's what makes the character of the gamble. It's how the majority rolls, so to speak. It's all about the vibe and the personality of gambling and sweating the gamble (totally a term I learned on here, by the way! :D ) And this is coming from someone who doesn't even really get gambling, but I can still see that the slang is all a part of it.

And to say that JCIN (or anyone else) is using the slang in an effort to look cool or "in the know" (as you put it) is just insulting to them. We all think JCIN is pretty cool, slang or not, and I promise you he isn't trying to impress you by confusing you. TAR being a "company" doesn't mean they should be "professional" by your terms... they are being professional as it relates to what they do. To not use the proper slang terms would be unprofessional, in my opinion. Lawyers/doctors, etc. have their own slang too, and they adhere to that to get their jobs done. The boys of TAR have gained the type of respect they have BECAUSE they know WTF they are talking about.:) (added some slang of my own, just for the hell of it;) )

I know its necessary, its the over use of it to make yourself look in the know is stupid, all it does is make you look childish. And if that is insulting, oh well, they will just have to get over it. And TAR shouldn't be professional? Okay well they certainly accomplished that. Who cares if they know what they are talking about, if nobody else does in the general pool playing population it is useless. And thinking someone is "cool" has absolutely nothing to do with my point. Id invite the guy over for dinner, I just wouldn't want him handling my PR.

I personally think JCIN is one of the smarter AZ posters and has a lot of good to say on a lot of topics. Based on his thread about shane vs. scooter, I dont really see how he made it that hard to understand.

JCIN WROTE:
"Shane is giving Scooter the 4 out for $100 a game right now on Ustream."

The only slang going on here is "4 out for $100 a game"

If you break it down, Im sure you can figure out what "$100 a game" means, that that just leaves you with "4 out". Simply put, Scooter can play the 4, 5, 6, 7, & 8 ball the same way you would normally play the 9. So, if he makes a combo on the 6, he wins. If he sinks the 4 ball, he wins. Its really pretty simple if you just think about it instead of posting up hate.

I don't gamble so I didn't know for sure but I assumed this was the case. I like the lingo. It's fun.

being respected in no way should exclude someone from criticism.

Criticism is ok but your "tone" makes them words fightin words. Very disrespectful tone.

U,
At the risk of stating the obvious; your interpretation of JCIN's intentions is just wrong. That is not why he speaks as he does (as many here who know him will attest).

Perhaps I can re-phrase your assertion; "It's making up things to criticize to make yourself feel better about your lack of knowledge that is "stupid".

Willie ......could you please tell all those fags at airport they have the 7 out on the bar box .....? thanx ........H.P.

Ok, make a poll. See just how many posters disagree with/don't understand the "slang" you're referring to. A guess would be not many.

I thought, of all places, "this slang" could be used freely on AZ without anyone questioning what it meant. If you're not sure about the whole gambling lingo, you should read "Playing off the rail" because they explain what it all means. Or you should spend more time in the poolhall:confused:

Or ask someone. I am new here but everyone seems very cool with answering any questions.

That is exactly my point, that I get it. My problem was never, oh man, what did he say I just don't get it. My problem is not that I don't understand who Shane is when he just uses SVB's first name, or that I don't understand gambling terms. If I took a poll, the only people who would answer it are the ones who understand what JCIN and other "action" announcers are talking about. As Grady would say the "uninitiated" wouldn't and don't speak up, and thats where im comming in and comming from. Im speaking up, not only calling out those who cryptically announce cash games, but indicting the general idiotic nature of the at large pool community in general. JCIN's "action" posts are simply a microcosm or the larger picture. That larger picture should include getting accustomed to speaking to a general audience. It doesn't matter what he meant, or what you think he meant, or how well you know him. If professionals in the billiard world won't act like professionals, and if the people who call for them to behave so get ridiculed, pool can never become what all of us here want it to become... a true profession.

As far as this forum is concerned, I don't see a problem. Anyone here who doesn't understand something can always ask. And to be honest, the general public doesn't give a damn, and the ones who might would probably get into the lingo anyway.

The pool and gambling subculture is something that has evolved over hundreds if not thousands of years. As with any subculture, be it surfing, pool, or shooting marbles, if you want to participate in the subculture you have to be prepared to spend the time to understand it. When in Rome, do as the Romans do is a very old saying and its appropriate here. You adapt to the culture you are visiting, you do not expect the culture to adapt to you.

Remember, AZB did not ask you to come here and the thread you clicked on was not addressed to you. The ridicule you get for this thread is something you can expect if you go to any culture and expect them to change their language to meet your needs, especially when you were not personally invited.

First of all this forum is voice your opinions, by posting on a public forum it is automatically not only inviting me, but anyone else who wants to say what they feel regarding a particular thread. Secondly when did nicknames of people become part of gambling lingo. SCOOTER? SCOOTER? Is SCOOTER a gambling term????? Didn't think so, if you want to argue your point, you might want to start arguing against mine first.

LOL....if you hate the name Scooter then Piggy Banks and Patch Eye will really make you weak. Ever hear of a guy they call Tiger? I hear he is pretty sporty on the golf course. He seems to do OK.

Our stuff is for the people who spend 12 hours in a chair at the Derby sweating Scooter and Tater in a marathon match with a dude named Pickle who has no shirt on. We will worry about the rest of the world later.

If we are not professional enough for you.....it is because we are not really professional producers/videographers/promoters. We are just some guys who love a part of the game that doesnt get enough recognition and decided to do something that would let us be around the things we love to do. We make every effort to produce a quality product and provide quality service to our customers but one thing we do not do is take things too seriously. If we can't have fun doing it it isnt worth doing.

I get what you are trying to say or what you think you are trying to say. I just don't care.

Also...not only should Scooter be a gambling term it should be the definition. Look up Action in the dictionary and there is a picture of Scooter running a foot race in the parking lot of the Valley Forge convention center in the pouring rain , barefoot, wearing a tshirt and boxer shorts for $100. (True story)

That 'bout splains it!

I DO like the way you think. You are welcome in my room anytime.

The foot race in the parking lot has been done to death ( Kieth McCready in 1982 outside of Bud's lounge) ...I have bet on two guys racing in wheel chairs in the hallway of a hotel ......some players will bet on just about anything ...it can be entertaining ...
