Tuesday Open Thread: Sky v. Alex and Efren v. Jose

I got to watch Skyler play 9 ball at Reno back in Feb. He was breaking and running out like it was nothing. Granted, that was on a bar table with a magic rack and fewer restrictions but I still have to give him the edge in this one.

I like Efren on the other match.

Mark Wilson and Billy Gibbs commentating. A young player against what Billy considers one of the three best players on the planet. Alex is so hard to beat, so Sky is going to have his work cut out for him.

Mark says Sky is "a year away from making the team." WTH!

Now they're talking Mosconi Cup talk. Sheesh!

They said Pat Fleming will coming over to the Mosconi Cup in England. Very nice! This means we'll be seeing it live with good quality.

Nobody is practicing now. Scott Smith's voice in the background, announcing the players on the other tables. Applause after each table announced.

Alex 11-8
Alex is much younger LOL https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10205137720748377
Parica 11-10
When Parica plays Reyes, can throw out the formbook. It is a grudge match full of emotions and intensity so forget about who has been play better recently. You ask the motivations and who wants to win more badly , who has more to prove. On basis of that I take Parica
It should be awesome match with with kick/safety kings- how often these days do you get do you come across such a match that will showcase a wide range of skills
According to this Azb news http://www.azbilliards.com/news/sto...uggles-and-tough-times-for-team-usa-hopefuls/ Reyes-Parica match will be player tomorrow Wed at 1030am

Staring at a blank table and dead air time. No voices, nothing. Just cameas zooming in and out on the table.

Referee comes up and throws out the two balls for the lag.

Here comes Alex and Sky. They shake hands and then lag the balls. Alex wins the lag. Alex is racking. They should have a neutral racker for the TV table.

One of the last comments Freddy the Beard said about Sky that that was one of the best bank players he's ever seen in his life.

Alex has been playing snooker, but he's playing pool because he loves it, and he wants to win another U.S. Open.

They should have a neutral racker for the TV table.

Someone mentioned this before too. Couldn't they just get enough locals who know how to rack as volunteers so that all tables have neutral rackers? Or is it the players who don't want neutral rackers?

It seems like a neutral racker would eliminate the possible pattern racking disputes.

Alex breaks, come up dry. Sky to the table, studies his options, He misses the first shot, a slice on the 1 in the corner, had to twist the shot and missed.

Everything is open. Why does the 1-ball look orange?

Alex banks a nice 3-ball cross corner. Shooting the 4 in the corner. Everything looks like an easy Mickey Mouse runout.

Both commentators are praising Alex, giving him his accolades.

Sky grew up new Paducah, near Buddy Hall. They're saying Sky is hungry and wants to win titles.

Alex still running out and wins the first game, carved through the first rack, 1 to nothing, racing to 11.

Alex breaks from the opposite side of the table this time. He uses the cut break and comes up empty AGAIN. Sky walks up to the table, chalks up, and he tries a 1-ball bank and misses. Leaves the 1-ball in the jaws of the pocket for Alex. Duck soup.

Two misses in a row by Sky. :sorry:

Alex makes the duck shot on the 1 by hitting the rail first, but then it tied up a couple balls as the cueball went wild.

He plays a safety and leaves Sky tough. This is Sky's third shot of the game. He makes a good hit and leave Alex a tough shot now, but it's hittable on the 2 ball.

Alex plays another safety. Referee comes out to watch the hit. This is a kick shot for Sky, a big shot for him. He made a good hit and got lucky to leave a safety shot for Alex.

Slow game. Safety after safety. They're both still shooting at the 2.

Here comes Sky. He sees like a hawk, a pretty straight shooter. Slicing these balls in like they had eyes. Very nicely executed run-outs, good-angle leaves, the whole bit.

He's now staring at a combo of the 7 to 9. And he makes it. 1 to 1.

Both players are getting some bad rolls. Alex looked like he was going to run out, but he left himself bad on the 7. He snookered Sky now. Sky has a thin cut, but it is long and dirty. What shooter; what a guy. He made it.

Sky takes the lead 5 to 4.

Looks like they chose the right match for the TV table. It might have been a little boring to watch Strickland run straight through his opponent.

...Or "shoot out your heart" as Earl would put it.

Sky is on a roll now. Breaks and makes three balls on the break. What a golden opportunity to pull out ahead even further.

Slices that 2 in the side like it had eyes. What a great cut shot.

Sky is feeling might divine here. He's moving and groving. He is also shooting the balls with authority, which shows confidence.

Man, 6 to 4, Sky on top.

This time, Sky breaks dry, allowing Alex to the table. Alex shooting pool with precision, like a panther studying his prey. No laughing and no jokes right now. Alex is a man on a mission. He knows he's stuck and must make something happen, but once again, the balls roll funny. Alex snookered himself. Goes for a kick and misses. Gives Sky ball in hand. Wow! Everything going Sky's way. And he wins, 7 to 4, Sky on top. WOW!
