Tuesday Open Thread: Sky v. Alex and Efren v. Jose

Sky breaks the ball, makes the wing ball, and he can see the 1, maybe a slice in the side pocket. What a shot.! Sliced that 1 ball in the side like it had eyes. Alex is wounded, sitting on his perch. Sky now looks to be dancing around the table with ease. Alex has played well, but he's made positional errors. I can't believe it. Sky is on top, 8 to 4. What a shooter! What a guy!

Two break-and-runs in a row for Sky.

ky breaks and makes the wing ball again -- and the 2-ball. He's looking at a Mickey Mouse runout. He gets a little funny on the 3-ball, but, man, oh, man, what a shot on the 4-rock, a very tough cut in the side. Here we go, tic, tack, toe. The 7, the 8, and the 9 for the win. Sky is taking a HUGE lead now, 9 to 4. This is exciting for the home team. USA, ALL THE WAY. USA, ALL THE WAY! [Sorry, Alex] :p

Sky is breaking like a beast, multiple balls finding a pocket and lowest numbered ball in sight for a shot. This kid is playing like a champ!

Commentator Billy in danger of being named "Captain Obvious" like that guy in the hotel commercial. After Sky won his sixth consecutive rack, he said to Mark "Wouldn't you say the momentum is all with Skylar?" Mark had a great opportunity to trip him up by saying "no."

ky breaks. Cut break, wing ball drops, and he's on his way to the infamous hill. This layout, however, is a little tough. He must move slowly and play each shot with precision for the next one. He's playing with good speed. Oh, man, nobody can stop this kid. He's hitting 'em smooth as butter. Don't lose your focus now, Sky. You will soon be on the hill. I love that rose-colored shirt. Very handsome. He is really hitting with authority now. Another break-and-runout. A Skyler Woodward 9-ball clinic for Alex. Sky on the hill, 10 to 4.

Damn he's playing so loose like he's practicing. Stringing consecutive break and runs like nothing.

This is the type of performance you have to have to beat a player like Alex. You have to take it. Sky breaks, makes the wing ball, but he gets snookered. A 6-game cushion is nice for Sky, though. Sky pushes out, leaving Alex long and dirty. Alex has been in that chair for a while now.

Alex is now at the table and trying to make up for lost time. Alex has a very serious look on his face. He knows he's in trouble. He's studying each shot before he fires.

Well, Alex ain't going to roll over and play dead. He's working the cueball and finally makes a score. 10 to 5, Sky still in the lead.

Alex won his 5th game and then racks the 1 on the spot instead of the 9, and no one says anything??

Nevermind, I didn't notice they moved the spot up....retard moment...

Alex reaches for his jumpcue and proceeds to break the balls. Makes the wing ball and the 1 ball -- makes 3 balls on the break. He has a shot on the 2 ball and makes it very effortlessly. Alex has a smooth stroke for being under such pressure. He's looking good to win this game. It's looking pretty easy with all the right angles. Alex is coming from a deficit and showing a lot of heart. I'm sure he's been in this spot before, but it doesn't look like it's bothering him. He wins it. 10 to 6. Sky still on the hill.

Alex finally gets a break and run-out.

Not to break the flow but

THANKS JAM

My pleasure. I'm so excited.

Alex breaking. Makes the wing ball, 1 in the side, and he's got a shot on the 2-ball. Nice layout, easy runout. Uh-oh, folks. We just might have a battle here.

How does Skyler keep making the wing ball? I'm very confused.

Has Mark Wilson been suprised by Skyler's level of play in this match?

10 to 7. Alex retaliates with another break-and-run. 10 to 7. Sky still on that hill.

Mark Wilson says this has been the best match all week on this table.

Alex breaks and once again makes that wing ball. Both players have found their break, it would seem. This one is a tough layout. Alex asks for an extension. He doesn't want to give the table up, but he is considering a safety after the break. What a decision for Alex to have to make at this juncture. He don't want Sky to get anywhere near that table while Sky is on the hill. Alex rolls the dice and makes a beautiful shot, but the balls roll funny and leave him a bad layout on the table.

Skylar led Efren 8-4 in the 2014 Derby City 9-ball. Efren won 9-8. Just saying ...

Alex finally has to play a safety. After three break-and-runs by Alex, Sky gets to the table, staring a snooker leave. Makes a good hit, leaves Alex long and snookered. Alex replies with a snooker of his own. The crowd breaks out in applause. Sky back to the table, looking at another kick, and has to hope for the best. You can cut the air with knife, the tension is so thick. Sky walks around the table. He does not want Alex to have any momentum at this juncture. He's so close. Sky makes it but leaves Alex straight in.

Alex pockets the ball with ease, but he ain't dancing quite yet. He's studying the table and is a man on a mission. He takes his time between each shot, chalking after every shot. Alex wins again, 10 to 8. Sky needs only 1 and Alex needs 3 to win the match.
