This may have already been discussed, and if so I apologize. Just wondering why some players missed the Turning Stone, such as Rodney Morris, Earl Strickland, Alex Pagulyan, and Mika Immonen. As they are always a contender, just wondered if anything else was going on, because I certainly enjoy watching them play. AND a big thank you to those who streamed it and worked so hard to make the tournament a success.

It's especially weird that Mika and Earl missed, since they both are living in NY and playing regularly there (unless something's changed).

Mika Immonen, Ralf Souquet and Darren Appleton were the most noteworthy absentees in my view. Seems the top Euros, excepting thrid place finisher Thorsten Hohmann, took the event off. Shame, but I'm sure they had their reasons. If memory serves, both Mika and Ralf are past champions at Turning Stone.
Something that may have had an effect on less top players being there is probably due to some of them expecting to be playing the bonus ball league in Vegas.
I'm willing to bet, Mika was either busy or he was unable to commit before the field filled-up. You must remember, Turning Stone is limited to 128 players and Mike Zuglan makes no special arrangements with any players. You pay, you're in. You don't pay, you're not in. Joss Tour participants will often get their registrations paid months in advance to insure a spot. A lot of the absentees are not regular Joss Tour players.
Thanks for the reply, didn't know about those arrangements. That would explain why some of the topnotch players didn't get in. I like how Mr. Zuglan handles that; no special treatment. He may want to think about expanding the field if enough players want to play. Either way, it was a great tournament and he has my thanks for allowing it to be streamed.

While BB allows players to take off, unpaid, to go to other events, maybe they felt it wasn't worth losing the sure payday vs having to cash high at TS, to make money.
As Jude mentioned, Zuglan doesn't hold spots for anyone. Actually, if you are a top player, he will hold a spot until 30 days out, if you say you want to play. At the 30 day out spot, if you haven't paid your entry, your spot is opened up to the waiting list.

All the BB players were granted spots at Turning Stone. Some simply chose not to attend.
Rodney Morris for instance, was still invited, but opted not to go.
I figured as much, but thanks for clarifying this.
A player told me Turning Stone is especially difficult financially. The travel costs and payouts don't work well. I think it would be fun playing in this tournament regardless of the costs.
I don't recall seeing Stevie Moore or Mike Davis' name either.
