They need to let referees rack. All racks by the ref final.
They do have a reference line, but if there isn't a line drawn on the cloth, it is a bit useless. The one ball loves to stick in the rack on the plastic diamond racks. They also don’t have any reference line or anything to make sure the rack is crooked

I thought the same but after the hot seat match, Fedor said that he was happy with the racks that Shaw had given him.In the Hot Seat match I believe Shaw was giving Fedor loose racks on purpose. In the
Final Fedor made him correct the rack several times.
So I have read here Zuglan doesn't tolerate buffoonery , what gives with the rack antics?
Q: if all the balls are touching, do they break different than using a template?
Theoretically, without a template the balls should spread a tiny, tiny bit faster/further, since the template has a slight holding force that keeps the balls in place. They have to first get over that little speed bump to get moving. But it’s likely an insignificant difference.Q: if all the balls are touching, do they break different than using a template?
They still can, but it wasnt as common before. You won’t see as much of it on the Turning Stone stream because they don’t always have top players (or even pros) featured.Guys could run 5 packs or more WAY before the template rack
why not now?
If you don't think that rack mechanics change the break for themselves or their opponent by feathering or moving the one ball, I am not sure which person to tell you to talk to first. Bartrum, Bergman, Shane, Corey, Jayson, Tucker.Have you never racked before? Sometimes you can fix a ball that is not frozen by brushing it with your finger. I do it every single time with the magic rack, and it almost always works then. With wood racks, it can work, but only some of the time.
I'm saying when they don't freeze you can sometimes improve it by feathering. Sure, you can also make it worse, on purpose. That depends on the person. If you don't think that rack mechanics change the break for themselves or their opponent by feathering or moving the one ball, I am not sure which person to tell you to talk to first. Disagree. The froce of the break renders the slight resistance null.Theoretically, without a template the balls should spread a tiny, tiny bit faster/further, since the template has a slight holding force that keeps the balls in place. They have to first get over that little speed bump to get moving. But it’s likely an insignificant difference.
It would be pretty easy to test if this holding force makes any difference, by sending a single ball at a controlled speed (precision ramp) into another one on and off a template, and measuring the distance traveled by the second ball each way.
They still use a triangle rack at the Mosconi Cup -- referee racks with player inspection not allowed.Well about the only thing I "think" we can agree on in this thread is this debate only comes around once yearly at the Turning Stone. Nowhere else. Everyone else moved on to template racks 10 years ago. No more problems. No more fights. No more looking at ass cracks trying to rack for 3 minutes straight. No more dead 9 balls.
Only occasionally people saying the game is "too easy" now.
I'll take the new way 100 times over the old way.
I think that in the past when using the triangle they have done some tapping/training "as required".They still use a triangle rack at the Mosconi Cup -- referee racks with player inspection not allowed.
