What a shame they can't level a Diamond TV table right for a $1000 entry fee and $32,000 purse with $16,000 to the winner. I thought these hot shot Diamond tables with a zillion leveling screws were the answer to all the leveling problems. Johnny A. should be pissed at that roll off. I could level my five year old Valley BB much better than that...and loose those Cyclop balls. Not much of a fan of Diamond products lately. Johnnyt

I'm sure Glenn will have a field day with this.
I was told by another mechanic that a one piece slate ten foot table is harder to level than a three piece slate.
If there is any warping you can't flex it back like a three piece.

Maybe that's the problem?

Sure glad you made it clear that you were just a "fan" of Diamond products, instead of a real "customer" that had actually bought something from them. That's kind of like being just a fan of a pool room somewhere instead of being a customer and actually spending some money to help keep the place open.

In Tunica the 10 ft. tables were wiped down with silicon

In Tunica the 10 ft. tables were wiped down with silicon, was this done at the Derby as well? This makes the tables play much easier than normal, it's what the "trick shot artists" use so they can perform extreme masse' shots (there's very little friction, so balls slide in very easily).

An shot it off top rail to side pocket, in same path an shot it very slow it didn't
Roll off at all. He just put to much inside English on the ball when he shot that shot.

CJ, that's a little trick to eliminate the effects of humidity friction in the cloth;)

No, just saying that as a fan instead of a customer his comment about being disappointed in Diamond might just have a little more meaning. Are YOU saying the table was out of level too? or just running your mouth too?

They aren't switching anything out until the 10FT event is over. That is why the Banks final is delayed like last year.
 
It's more a condition of the table settling into the carpet and the Diamond mechanics not rechecking the tables than anything else. This is pretty come at the Derby and any big tournament you go go. It doesn't matter what tables they are using.

This could be fixed it tables had an electronic pneumatically controlled self leveling system installed at each leg. You could relevel the table after each game if you wanted to since the one piece slate is leveled to the frame. I'll start my patent process now! :wink:

That's not entirely true. Earl wiped down the one he was playing on and everyone was making a big fuss about it. None of the other ones were wiped down with a silicon rag.

My point was that Johnny is not a Diamond customer, and only a fan of Diamond tables because he still compares them to the Valley table he owns at home to play on. If he in fact owned a Diamond, then his complaints would have a little more merit. As far as your comment about if he did own a Diamond table, would it be level....that goes without saying, yes it would have been level when it was first set up, but that can and will change in time, which is why the feet on the tables are adjustable, as no pool table will maintain its first initial leveling as there are many variables that can change that which is why tables have to be re leveled until they no longer change level.

Often the entire table doesn't get unlevel, just part of it. Then the question is which part do you want level? You can't fix tables that are flat and level in the middle but balls down the rails drift in or out by messing with leg levelers.

Tables should only have 3 legs anyway. Anything else just puts stress on the frame or box and tries to warp it.

Before I bought my table (and a Starrett) I thought tables (good ones, anyway) were rigid and flat. Tables are more like pizzas - they bend, and they aren't flat. The challenge is to get them close enough to flat and level in enough places that no one notices the bad spots during play.

I also once thought it would be interesting to sort balls by size (high end of spec, medium size, low end of spec) so similar size balls could be put in the same tray to improve racks for breaking. What I found out is that balls in pool rooms aren't regulation size. They are almost all smaller, many *much* smaller (like 1/8") than regulation. I'd bet less than 1 ball out of 300 in D/FW pool rooms meets the minimum size for a regulation ball.

I completely agree. I play on Diamonds regularly, but I don't have the pleasure of owning one. I can offer my opinion about Diamond products, but I would never shun the company if I don't own their product.

Silicon won't cause a ball to roll off like a table that isn't level.

Level is level.....it doesn't matter if it's a Valley, a Diamond, a piece of particle board, or a cement top table with 6 pockets on it. What's with all of the hating on Johnny? Some of you guys amaze me.
