tv time for cue deal

Why do people say the "pros" get ran off because of what someone says? Do you really think that being involved in the "pool world" that the players are easily offended? One day at a pool room is worse than what someone can say on here. heh. Just saying. No point to what I'm speaking I guess.

come on man... you have to have seen it... i dont know maybe im looking at it all wrong but when a top pro comes on here and asks for help or try's to offer his help or advice and you get poeple on here that jump all over them and question there advice i just see that as an insult to them... maybe im wrong but thats how i see it.

John here is looking for a cue sponser and there are poeple telling him to go to walmart and get a cue... i know it was a joke but i think it was all in bad taste...

A Thought

John,

You should get in touch with Skip and have him give Mike a call. Jensen cues hit good. PM me if you want Skips number.

Thanks,
Josh Hillard

Good call......and I would imagine Tony would love the added exposure. I can see the BB logo on ESPN now....and it brings tears of joy to my eyes! :) :)

Hope you find the right fit, John. Best of luck, whichever direction you go!!

This is a good call!

Also a great call!!

Forgive my dumb question, but do you have an agent John? I am assuming from this post that you do not. The reason I ask, I would think an agent would help you negotiate these deals, to include exposure of yourself and the products you endorse. I know agents can be expensive, and with pool players already strapped as it is, I can see how you could not afford one. That really is a shame. There should be a body of people that could serve as agents for finding sponsors for these players I think. Would not take much really, just some guys with time and a few phone calls.

Just a thought...

I was not joking, nor did I intend to insult John, nor did I tell him to go to Walmart when I suggested he contact Danny Janes from Joss Cues. If you haven't talked to Danny, you should, he is a very strong supporter of pool. He has the capacity - financial, name, enthusiasm - to be a positive for this game and he is - just like John.:)

I'm treading on dangerous grounds, perhaps I should...

...take off my sandals.

Mr. John Madden, sir, I must kindly disagree with you. I place Mr. Dan Janes of Joss Cues fame above John Schmidt in the pool hierarchy.

You, sir, more than most others should know that pool players come and go and sometimes slobber all over the place but the custom cuemaker is a true artisan of the finest order!

Sincerely,
The Woim

P.S. - Did I already make it clear to all that you'll never catch The Woim playing with a production cue? Oh, I did already? Good! :p

My apologies to ActionHound!

ActionHound, I only saw the edited post, so I was a little quick on the whole judgement thing.

To you I offer my apology!

Sincerely,
The Woim

i understand that sir and thats why my posts werent towards you in any way.

Hey John,

Just a thought, how about getting in touch with Bill Grassley of Cornerstone Billiard fame. He has a huge collection of many different cue makers - maybe you and he can work something out for advertising his business. You can then select the best cue for you, but can help promote many of the top cuemakers that Bill carries. I think his website is: www.cornerstonecustomcues.com.

Good luck, Dave Gross

I think it would be a financial stretch (monthly compensation and/or cues) for most one man shop custom cuemakers like myself. There are several larger cuemakers who are ACA members you might call --- Danny Janes of Joss Cues is a real standup guy and helps whenever he can.

I think John would still want a custom and not production cue. So how hard would it be for a cue maker like you to talk to production cue makers and strike a deal like "you make the custom cue and replacements, production cue maker will negotiate the compensation, and then the t-shirt logo will say something like Joss Cues by Jack Madden?"

That is a very interesting concept. It would probably be a double endorsement like "Joss Cues & John Madden Cues". If that is something John would like maybe it could be arranged with Danny (I haven't talked to Danny so this is pure guess --- I have no idea if it is something he would want to do). I think Danny still does a "custom" if ordered.

I think this is feasible as production cues and custom cues target two different kinds of customer. So I don't think the partnership will hurt either you or Joss Cues.

It blows my mind that one of the best pool players in the world has to fish for a sponsor like this.

Up until now, john used a bobby hunter cue. The cue has some pedigree. He ran his 400 and won the us open with that cue. Loaded with malachite.

Rg

I think Josey Cues and John would be a great team... I don't know Keith, but if anyone does perhaps you can let him know. Two of the best in the business, a dream team, in my humble opinion.

Can you imagine?? John playing with a cue Tony tuned especially for him! This would be a real smart move for Tony too. BB's reputation was first established as the ultimate playing cue, would make sense to show the world it still is. Can you see John playing with a Boar? Awesome.
:p

I think it would have to be someone in the "high end" market, such as Scruggs, Tascarella, Szamboti or Black Boar, if one of the custom makers were going to support him. The smaller cuemakers do not make enough to pay their bills and also carry a pro who is looking for backing. I'd be thinking the best deal that John could get would be from someone like Evan Clarke at Schon, Dan Janes at Joss, or the Harts at Viking.

Evan would be my first call. John Schmidt.......powered by Schon. Has a ring to it.
