U.S Open 9-Ball Breaking News

This is a good thing for pool.

It also confirms, as Snapshot had previously mentioned, who the "new sheriff in town" is.

Nice job, Barry. That press release seriously almost brought tears to my eyes.

Good for Chesapeake, good for you, good for history, and good for pool.

And the hits keep coming. One day there is gloom and doom, and then the sun shines. Great news about the U.S. Open.

I'm not sure what schedule clash they're talking about for Matchroom Sport's World Pool League and the U.S. Open. What is the WPL, and who plays in it?

The World Pool League is a six man invitational tournament held in Poland and out of Matchroom's 4 annual events, it probably has the lowest profile. It was won last year by Thorsten Hohmann beating Francisco Bustamente in the final and also featured Kuo Po Cheng, Alex Lely, Tony Drago and Vilmos Foldes.

Thanks for the info. I went to the Matchroom Sports website and couldn't find any info on this WPL.

So, in essence, it's similar to the American 7-Ball Challenge shown on ESPN where six or eight players are invited, none having to post up their own dough as an entry fee, and winner take all. How come there weren't any Americans in it?

It did seem strange at the time that out of all of the invitations sent for both the World Pool League and the World Pool Masters, the only american invited was Rodney Morris.
This year though, Matchroom Sport seemed to go with a strong european contingant plus players who finished highly at the WPC in Kaohsiung. It would have been nice to see few more top american players here as apart from the WPM this year, the UK hasn't really seen any top international tournaments since they took the WPC away from Cardiff.

Well now that didn't take long to do.

See what you can accomplish with love.

The love of money that is. The Chamber of Commerce up there sure didn't want to lose all that money that the US Open brings in.

Did Barry realize how important he is to the economy up there. Did the players? If not, they do now.

Anyway, I am glad that everything worked out for the best.

Awesome!! I'm back to getting to go to two events this yr instead of just one. :)

I damn near passed out when I read that it may've been cancelled! It could've been rescheduled in the dead of winter and I would've still shown up! Great news for all US Open fans! See you in September!

Kudos to you, Mr. Behrman, and the city of Chesapeake for so quickly resolving what looked like a huge problem. Nice to see that a major pool tournement is given the prestige it deserves by the fine folks in Chesapeake. Many thanks to all who made it happen.
