U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship

I was up early for sure working on a job, but, dag nab it, I thought for sure I'd see all kinds of U.S. Open threads and articles on the Internet. This year, it's kind of slim pickings, I guess.

We'll have to depend on those who are on site. [Hint, hint to Jay and Mark].

Ofcourse there's not much, you aint there, Jenny...........LOL

Day One in the books. The last match ended at 1:30 AM. A few tough first round match-ups; Charlie Williams and Danny Harriman played a beauty of a match on the TV table. I did commentary with Danny D. We had fun in the booth and I got Danny to make some interesting observations about the pool players life. A jam up match that looked like it was going hill-hill until Danny missed an easy five ball while stretched out. Pat Fleming said this was a "keeper". Harriman makes two banks back to back in one critical game that no one else would even have attempted!

The TV table is the new "home style" offering from Diamond that was showcased on another thread last week. I called it a drunk table with its curved legs. How wrong I was! This thing is beautiful! The pictures posted on here didn't begin to do it justice. Simply a stunning looking table that plays like a pool table is supposed to play. Diamond makes the best bar table and now they have the best home table. And their pro table is the equal of any other top line table, i.e. The Gold Crown V. Greg Sullivan and Co. is doing something right down there. Time to get a little rest. It's going to be a long week.

I'm not seeing much forum chatter about the U.S. Open this year. Maybe I'm anxious to just read all about it, I guess.

I noticed the date of the U.S. Open is October 18th through the 24th. Does that mean the players meeting was last night?

Inquiring minds would like an update; an on-site report, if you will. :grin-square:

.....

This lack of pool smut is kind of depressing for the inquiring minds that gotta know! :crying:

Jennie,

You've always been real good on giving us some good on-the-scene updates, let me return the favor...

I'll be in Chesapeake on Thurs afternoon. I'll catch some tourney action during the day and I usually camp out in Qmasters late nite. I'll see if I can give some updates to this thread via my Blackberry. Also, let me know if you have any specific questions (on action, a person, et al) and I'll try to see if I can fill your shoes.

Yay! I'm so glad you are going. I know we're going to get the pool smut now! :grin-square:

Eric, keep 'em coming, my friend. I have to work all day long on the computer, and my checking the threads here is my only relief from my job today. Thanks! :)

morra takes it down. uneventful math, matt seemed a lil off, hung the 8 in the corner to let morra go up 7 and it was over in another 3 games. action has been lite. chamat is playing an unknown some t 200 ten ball and liking it a lot. manny chaj has some small action, i dont know the details. a few others have been hanging around* ryan, shuff, alcano, but no dance partners.

I feel bad for Matt C., as I'm usually pulling for the home team, and he lives in my back yard.

However, it is nice to see Morra take down some cheese, after he was denied entry at the U.S. Open for not paying his entry fee on time. He traveled all the way there. I'll bet next year, if he wants to play, he will get that entry fee in on time!

I'll be at the Q again, tonight. Who knows, maybe we'll get some good action on the last nite (for all you junkies  ).

Just top add (now that I'm at a computer), the Clatterbuck/Morra match lasted about 3 hours. Morra was up for pretty much the whole match. At one point, Morra was up 7, to have Matt pull it back to -4, only to make a couple of careless errors, to let Morra get ahead more. At one point, wiht the score +7 Morra, and MAtt shootin, He got BIH (Morra scratched on the break), ran the 1,2 then had a 3, 7, 10 cluster near the foot spot to deal with.Mattgetsdecetothe3toeitheplay safe or possibly play a carom off the 10, into the corner, sending the 10 towards the corner on the other end of the table, and possibly protectecting the CB behind the 7. Matt chose to play an all out 3 /10 combo that didnt come close at all, left a thin cut on the 3, which Morra cut up the rail, and ran out the wide open table. GAme, set, match. I figured Matt might want to play a lil tighter on the hill game....

Eric

We may have to guess........ It's 7:30 in Indiana. I'm assuming this is over? I'd guess Gomez won it.

Thanks for the updates, sometimes I forget my manners.
