U.S. Open Checks Bounced???

problems at the US Open

You Sir are exactly correct. Barry had a drink in his hand the whole time and it looked like he was hammered. I'm sorry the players did'nt get paid but I got to tell one more story on Barry. I'm the idiot that bought the tv table and in my conversation and note along with the deposit on the table, I reminded Barry that he agreed I was to get the balls and rack with the table. So at the end of the finals (after he has given Shane his big bouncy check) he says " it's tradition the winner gets those items. Fine ,no big deal. My Brother and I go over to Q-Masters and Shane is finishing his dinner. I approach him (great person) and asked if he has any real attachment to the balls and rack and he say no. We make a deal and then I tell Shane you got to get Barry to make it happen or it never will. He stops Barry and Shannon and I think Shannon calls someone at the TV room to put the balls and rack with the table to be deliverered on Monday. Well, I don't check the balls but later on my Brother asked me "I thought the tv balls were pink 4-ball ". We did'nt get what was promised but it wasn't Shanes thought. I'm one and done until Barry has nothing to do with the US Open. Sorry I was so long.

You said you didn't get the correct set of balls but how is that Barry or Shannon's fault when you yourself say that Shannon called someone in the TV table room & told them to put the balls & rack with the table? I'm sorry that happened to you but have you tried contacting them to rectify the situation?

US Open problrm

Lady, I have a construction company for 35 years, when I tell an employee to do something and it doesn't get done, the customer is looking for me not the employee. If Barry doesn't care about these guys getting paid he sure as hell doesn't care about my little problem. I don't ever care to see the man again under any curcumstances. Fell free to contact him on my behalf!

There's no need for you to get belligerent with me, all I did was ask a question. I know all about running a company & providing customer service, I was Vice President of a sports memorabilia company for over 10 years. I simply asked if you had contacted them about correcting the mistake with the set of balls because it didn't sound to me like you had. The way I read what you wrote it sounds like you're complaining about the error but haven't contacted anyone about it; there's no need to publicly trash someone that has not been given the opportunity to correct any mistake. I could be wrong & if I am then I apologize.

problem with Barry

Bob Jewett just brought it to my attention that the balls were probably the property of Accu-stats and therefore I would like to apologize to all parties concerned, especially to the young lady that responded to my post.

Apology gladly accepted  Hope you enjoy your table.

There's no need to apologize, you have a construction company ROFL.

With all due respect, I too know about running a company. The audacity involved in assuming a customer is in any way, shape, or form not entitled to frustration for problems that develop through no fault of his or her own (as is the case here) is ludicrous. The customer is always right...even when they're wrong. Anyone in business today knows this...annoying as it can be.

In this case the guy bought the package. Barry changed the conditions of the sale by saying the balls and rack no longer come with the table...POST sale. And then, the customer works a deal with the supposed new owner of these items and then they both ask the proprietor of these items (Barry and Shannon facilitated this sale) to make the change. The change is botched.

The buyer is now in the unfortunate position of having to do more than simply "purchase" the items, he has to use his own personal time to fix a problem that never should have happened in the first place. So yes, you have every right to complain. You didn't get what you paid for.

Likewise, if Barry can somehow make this right it's a class act to come back and mention it. I don't think problems define a business...it's how those problems are handled that is a better definition.

This is another perfect example of how the tournament, on a whole, was run. The buyer agreed to purchase the TV table, likely at a premium. Signatures were not there as promised (regardless of whether the players felt like signing it or not, you shouldn't advertise it as such if you cannot deliver), balls and rack were not included (I heard Barry say they were myself). The guy selling the tables was changing the deal...on the fly....on the microphone!

I think the buyer has every right to complain. He paid the money and didn't get what he purchased. You can't lambaste him for not giving up his own personal time to fix this problem. Where is Barry or Shannon in this mess? They might have futzed up the sale of this table, but that doesn't mean they can't try to make it up to him somehow. They should take the time to reach out to him to make things right...that's the professional way to handle the problem. But alas, I think Barry has bigger problems he's working on at the moment.

I won't say anything else about the way the US Open was run after this post. It could have been so much better. I should have been so much better. The players and spectators deserve more. I think in his heart Barry actually knows and believes this. I just don't think he has the ability to do anything about it. I think he has taken this tournament as far as he is capable of. On a positive note, he should be proud it got too big for him to handle. The other direction would be to simply fade into obscurity like so many other diminished tournaments over the years.

The final word from me on the US Open is "it's a shame." It really should have, and really could have been a whole lot better. Maybe next year...if he can get it together. Or maybe Shannon can do better. Though I have not seen any evidence whatsoever of that being the case.

And Soulweb totally hit it out of the park with those 2 Pulitzer Prize winning posts!!!
DAAAYUUM!!!!!!

I never stated that he wasn't entitled to his frustration but I fail to see how you would expect anyone to know of the customer's dissatisfaction if the vendor isn't contacted.

In this case the guy bought the package. Barry changed the conditions of the sale by saying the balls and rack no longer come with the table...POST sale. Which he clearly stated Shannon (0r someone) called the TV room with instructions to include the balls & rack. Again, if they weren't made aware of the error when it was discovered then how were they to know a mistake had been made?

The buyer is now in the unfortunate position of having to do more than simply "purchase" the items, he has to use his own personal time to fix a problem that never should have happened in the first place. So yes, you have every right to complain. You didn't get what you paid for.

Once again, if Barry is aware of no problem then nothing can be done to rectify it.

This is another perfect example of how the tournament, on a whole, was run. The buyer agreed to purchase the TV table, likely at a premium. This I can't say anything about because I didn't hear anything about signatures being included on the table or about the balls & rack being included but if you say you heard it then I have no reason to not believe you. If that is what happened, again, the customer has every right to be upset.

I think the buyer has every right to complain. He paid the money and didn't get what he purchased. You can't lambaste him for not giving up his own personal time to fix this problem. Again I will state, from what it looked like he had posted in here no attempt to let Barry or Shannon know about any problems was made. If they aren't aware of any problems, they can't attempt to make it right. The buyer has every reason to be upset.

I won't say anything else about the way the US Open was run after this post. It could have been so much better. I should have been so much better. The players and spectators deserve more. I agree the players deserve more as in getting paid on time & the spectators deserve more as well as in they layout & seating arrangements. I don't foresee the tournament going away & I do believe the problems will be fixed.

The final word from me on the US Open is "it's a shame." It really should have, and really could have been a whole lot better. Maybe next year...if he can get it together. Or maybe Shannon can do better. Though I have not seen any evidence whatsoever of that being the case.

Now that you & I have both given our opinions on things that really had nothing to do with us to begin with I won't have anything to say about this again either. I do have to say that I'm new to posting in here but so far I'm enjoying it greatly, it's nice to be able to share opinions with others :)

I did not mean to use your post to specifically criticize you. I used it as a general stepping stone to make a point. In hindsight I could have made my point just as efficiently without quoting you. Probably should have.

And yes, it's a wonderful place to share opinions on all things billiards. This topic in particular hit a nerve with me as I was there (as was a lot of the people posting on this thread).

Welcome to the forum!

No criticism at all taken & I didn't mean to come across like I felt that way! I can understand you feeling strongly about this as I do too. I've know Barry since I was a teen (I'm almost 43) & have been going to the Open for many years. I really do see that this is a subject many people have strong opinions about & I really am enjoying reading the things on here & hearing the differing points of view!

Sup girl, got any more pics of those tattoos?

Imagined dialog:

Barry: Shane the balls and rack are yours.

Shane: I'd rather just get the money.

Barry: All I have left to give you is my balls........

Fire all the shots you want, but IMO, Barry and Shannon worked their ass off, put THEIR money on the line, and STILL brought us world class pool. They admitted to the venue being short of the mark. They owned it. They try.

Couldn't agree more!
