You know, this boycott is going to cost some players a lot more than others. I do not know who Art Wiggins and Tommy Najar are, but since I have never heard their names before I have to wonder if they are really in contention to win much money at the Open. So it may cost them nothing to be in the boycott.
And the former champions who will lose their free entry fees, well, that is only $500 a year so they can probably sweat that. But I do not understand why Appleton and Feijen would be expected by the ABP to take part in this. They should be given a pass and encouraged to play.
Why? Go take a look at the Mosconic Cup points list.

The US Open is a Mosconi Cup points event, the last one of the year. And these two guys are a lock to be on the Mosconi Cup if they do decently in the Open. But if they do not play their spots will almost certainly go to Daryl Peach and Ralf Souquet, both of whom are not on the boycott list.
C'mon, ABP, do the right thing. Give these two guys a pass. It isn't right for this boycott to cost them so much more than it costs everyone else. Being on the Mosconi Cup is a career-changing highlight and (I imagine) a pretty handsome payday as well. Don't screw these guys out of this opportunity. You can still make your point without two guys having to take the brunt of the burden.
On the American side, DeChaine is not boycotting, so he stays on Mosconi. Shane needs to do the math and see if the risk is worth it. Corey says he is not in the boycott (according to the Behrman statement) and I have to wonder if Dennis Hatch will really give up his chance to play again. But with Putnam and Williams taking themselves out of contention that leaves the potential team of DeChaine, Van Boening, Deuel, Hatch, and Strickland.
Anyway, I think the ABP should consider the outsized effect that this is going to have on some of their members and give them a pass. I can understand their wanting to make a point, but this is hardly a shared sacrifice. Some guys are giving up nothing and some are giving up way more than the others.
