Ugly Tulipwood Jensen

IMO this may be one of the ugliest cues Mike ever made. I dont know, the inlays just don't work for me. Cue weighs 19oz and comes with two shafts, one with Ivory ferrule at 12.8mm and one with old Micarta at 13mm. both shafts have a tiny bit of taper run-out that is barely noticeable. Cue is a monster player, just not my style. Butt is dead straight, finish has typical laquer yellowing and there are a few tiny scratches around the JC logo. Trades, offers?? Mike would quote this cue out at around 1700 or more. Everything white is Ivory.

Yeah the finish along with the old JC, obvious its a fairly old cue of Mikes. Believe he said his wife started making him sign the cues on the forearm back in 2000 or 2002, somewhere around there. Other then that he just use 2 put the JC on the buttcap. Theres a guy down the street from me whom has one and he states it was made about 13yrs ago. So i guess he could be right about that, or pretty close. You know those of u that have some of Mikes cues, ya might wanna think about holding onto them. For what Mike has told me, he isnt gonna be making cues much more longer. He is ready to retire as soon as he friends the right person for an apprentice and he takes a few years to teach them the way things work. So IMO, IF Mike really does do this. Then those cues of his will definately increase in value as the years go by. I had him make a SP for me a few weeks back. He did a great job on it, IMO. Ive never shot with a cue that had a 3-8/10 pin wood to wood. Obviously it shoots alot better than my old Meucci's (which i still have). Since the SP was made, i have retired all my other cues and dont plan on ever bringing them out again. A few of them have been played and a few are still unchalked. The unchalked ones will forever stay that way, and the chalked ones, i just share memories with. Anyways, Mikes a great guy, IF u dont have one of his cues. I'd suggest getting one from him. U will not be disappointed with the work nor the way it shoots, for the price....=-)

I WISH I had the money to buy it. Or the money to to have my design done. By the time I do it may be too late.

The design is typical French colonial symbols found all over south Louisiana. Particularly the New Orleans area, you see symbols like that on the wrought iron work, logos, etc.

I was wondering if Mike Johnson might be thinking about shutting down. His website is no longer up.

I actually like it! Has that "pizzaz" that you normally don't see. :D

Plethora of pizzaz ? :p

Nice cue, not butt-ugly. Jensen uses or has used lacquer finish on his cues ?

Jensen cues

Mike and his wife June are extremely nice folks.Mikes cues are great both in terms of playability and craftsmanship. In my opinion he is one of the most undervalued cuemakers around and its just a matter of time until everyone figures out what they have been missing out on.Mike S.

My playing cue is a Jensen. If I didn't have it I would jump on this one. Someone will get a great playing and looking cue very cheap. Mike's cues are very underated and priced.

Every time I read the title of this thread, I think "Dang, Pathman, YOU are a terrible salesman!" :p

Wow, now only if I had some ugly bills to buy it with......

I remember a old Huebler that Paul made with Tulipwood.

I wish I had not sold it to that local hustler 20 years ago. I was it a year
later and the hustler has sold it. The new owner had put on one of them
brass ferrule tips like on bar cues.....

It was the sadest thing I had ever seen....

no salesman

Yeah, I think that's kind of the point. I'm not a salesman, as my buddy Ribdoner aptly says, I'm more of a cue pimp, when I'm through stroking them, I offer them up to the masses,

I've been thinking the same thing for the last 15 years. I'm holding on to a couple just in case the prophecy is realized, but I'm a little skeptical. Truth is, his cues play so damn good that it really doesn't matter if you like to play, cue flippers need not apply however.
