Unique mech tools

case

Do you lug your machinist levels in a case you made or do you carry them individually in the wood boxes? I thought about making a brief like case to put several starrets in but never got around to it...some times I only use a starret or two and some times I will use several starrets at once...so I have been carrying them in there factory boxes for now..

Drum gig bags can also be nice for carrying sets of rails. Stack'em and wrap'em with bungees or wratchet straps. Those bags are durable as hell too. Back when I was playing a lot, I was carrying a couple hundred pounds of hardware in a bag. Never once broke a strap or anything. I think they were called Tuxedo Bags.

Well, the stone cold nuts as you say Josh is to have your moving blankets sewn up like big socks for the rails..... OTLwrap's LOL

Don, I use only 2 tool bags, the bottom one has 4 levels in it and other stuff. Unless I'm working on a Billiard or Snooker table I only use the 4. They fit nice in the bottom of the bag and you just make sure your vials are closed. IF I brought all of them I would put them in a tub and leave them on the bottom of my handtruck. This is a mini work center that gave me the inital idea for my OTLB Handtruck. These are not as good but work and used one for 4 months. No carrying, not even your tools.
Since then I have made my own shelves which are sturdier and a new model will be on OTLVISE.com soon as well as some of the neatest attachments yet.

A magnetic level shelf\tray, easily hold up to 12.. just not on my priority list right now. But the bottom of the "Tool Tree attachment" is predrilled and you could make a magnetic shelf for your levels right there if you wanted to take more. A tray with magnets that you can pick up and off, bring them all to the table in one shot lets say if you had alot of them.

Well gadgets, jigs, etc make the job easier , better, safer, and faster.

Here is a magnet strip, most excellent for picking up loose staples on the floor or trying to find one that got away from you. " No staple left behind"

Just add some runners to the outside and tape them on. Have used this for years with great success but you need to add duct tape occassionally.

John,
What are the runners/duct tape for? We used one of those for years with out the tape and it worked great.

Also keeps from knocking off the staples you've already picked up as you drag the thing across the floor.

I was working in our home league bar recovering tables and went around with one of those to pick up the staples before they opened. I had to give mine to the bartender she liked it so much. They use it to pick up bottle caps at the end of the night behind the bar.

$15 at Home Depot and worth every penny!

I use to use a carpenters square mounted on wood to the proper rail height for making corners sqaure but this level does 3 things. Its .0005, 1.75 high and flat on two sides and .0005 all around 12 inches square. Made in switzerland. You don't have to have one but it is very nice. side note: I know the inside of the pockets aren't finished and thats because I will do that when I sell the table. Its a Jefferson 1.5 slate, Chicago ball return.

these are very expensive 750 plus, ebay had it listed wrong or should I say the seller did and I got it for $25. It is now part of my Armada.

Nice pockets.Wow, picture disappeared!
I didn't know they're trade secrets.
