up and coming cue makers?

Not to be confused with the more famous Mike Bender, a guy named John Bender, in NJ, makes really nice cues. He studied under Richard Black.

How about Jeff Olney. There is a reason he has a 4 year waiting list. He is also one of the nicest guys as well.

i wouldn't consider him an up and coming cue maker. i get the feeling he's been at it for a while and already has made a name for himself

I had the priviledge of meeting John and seeing his work at Comet Billiards. On occassion John does the online commentary for Pat Flemming's "Game Show" in the AccuStats arena.
It's a long story, but I was sort of a guest commentator one night and I had a great time talking to John thoughout the evening.
