Update on the Des Moines pool scene

That is a firm date...remember jack and jill tourney on new years day as well and a blind draw doubles tourney later in january

Psssst...hint hint...we need to ADVERTISE the sh*t out of it ahead of time and get all the details if possible. If the one pocket starts earlier and we do a couple of things that were mentioned on here by Daryl and others this next one can be even bigger :D. Those dates are only 2 months away, nothing wrong with getting players to mark it on their calendars and not schedule anything else.

Advertise yes!!!

Good point Spimp. Advertise and you might get more people.

Mikey (or some other computer wiz)...make up a reproducible poster and post it here or the tournament board and I'll get some spread around CR. I'm sure that would spark some interest around here. You're only 1 1/2 hours away and I'm sure you'll get some player from here...if they know about it enough in advance.

Sounds like last weekend end was good for all. I'd love to see a DDC type tourney around here...I even suggested to the ISPA doing that sort of thing...CCC (Cornfield County Classic), but that didn't seem to go over too well...some people just don't have any 'vision' I guess.

Good luck...Ken

I kind of like the idea of when starting the new thread in the tournament section to list the players entered. If you know someone is going to be there that you want to match up with, it might peak your interest more to come. Also if you start seeing a bunch of people sign up, that will spark more interest because you know the payout will be nice. Streaming it also spices it up a bit :).

The ISPA should consider a one pocket division(s). The game is more popular than people think. Might be better than watching the Master's divisions die a slow and expensive death.

Streaming the tournament like we did at the big dog would be cool too.

If they added a 'practice room' - the DCC would get a run for it's money.

With growth comes opportunity.

That may hurt more than it helps. Thats why when Jessie, Baraks and the others players play in local tournaments, you dont see them until the tournament starts. It could kill the size of the tourney, more harm than good I think. It works well for Beloit because there are two levels.

We've wondered about this.

Our nex big tourney ($3K added) on Jan 21-23 conflicts with the start of DCC. So we'll lose Shane, Beau, Jesse, etc.

Is that a GOOD thing or a BAD thing for attendance? We don't know.

I'd say its a mix.

Some people come out to see those "pro level" players play.
Some people want to play against those players.
Some feel they don't have a chance against them.
Some people just wanna win.
and Some people just wanna have fun!!!

I myself would like to play against them(with a spot!!!) and watch them play against other top level players.

I see what you are saying...it can possibly go either way. I was just trying to think of idea(s) so that instead of 64 or whatever we had, we get close to 94 or more...we really need feedback from Randy on what he liked/disliked and what might be required in the future for it.

#1. You'd have to leave your house to actually play anyone :D
#2. Spots are for gambler's, which you have been known to do once in awhile....see point #1 though !

It was a ton of fun watching the tournament. I wish i would have taken Ray up on his offer to commentate a match. I was betting on it and didn't want to be one sided on my first attempt...maybe next time !

WTF??? I gamble EVERY Thursday! I even stepped out of my comfort box and bet over $100/set last week to only get quit on DURING the match!

Tell them me and you will take the same spot from them. We'll get every last penny back plus some.

***Sidenote*** There is way more money in Golden Tee than amateur pool! My friend is doing a lot of Golden Tee tourneys and the minimum added money is around $3500 most tourneys add like $10k though. The Golden Tee crowd actually drinks and eats and supports the establishments unlike the popcorn and tap water pool crowd. Just saying food for thought. If everyone that was in the house would have spent $20/day Randy would probably have that tournament again next weekend!

I hit that mark with my drinks Friday...phew, glad I made quota. How good is your buddy at Golden Tee? I used to play a bunch but haven't in about 5-6 years. The game has changed a lot since then. Funny story I was toasty at Stix a long time ago when I used to play a lot, and a guy was rambling about how he was a stud in the game. I of course being toasty said I would play him a game for $50. He said sure. I shot a -22 and lost to his -23 :(. I then asked if he wanted to play pool for some $ to which he declined and left with the dough the lil bastard.

If you are referring to the Golden Tee machines I am thinking they do a networked tournament online....I could be wrong though. If not depending on the number of entries 18 holes takes awhile, especially when drinking and playing if there are multiple people on each unit.

My only point is 60 golden tee players are more profitable than a 4 day tourney of 128 pool players.

Hell I think the Thursday Foosball tourney combined with normal league night probably brought in more money than that whole tournament did. You gotta be a pool nut to want to continually throw tournaments.

Like Dan Tull says he doesn't mind losing money throwing the Olathe tournament cause he loves it and it keeps his local players playing and they play way more for a month after the tourney trying to get ready for the next one. It's about giving the average players something to test their game against.

Just something to think about.

Lutman, Beau, Jesse Engel and Shuff all playing at Turningstone this week. I hope they all do well.

Tell me what you think of this scenario
He is stripes and is jacked up over the 1 ball by the 8.

CueTable Help

He pockets the 15 but his cue rolls the 1 ball in the path of the 8 to the side. Before this, he looked at the 8 to see if it went by the 1 in the side and my guess is that it did. By how much, I don't know as I didn't go look.

CueTable Help

What would you do?

When he asked me to move it back, my thought is that I didn't know exactly how far it was from the 8 and where to move it back to.
So I said to him, I don't know where it was at. He immediately broke down his cue and said that he didn't wanna play with someone like me. I followed with, "WTF!!! All I said was I didn't know EXACTLY where it was and the only thing I knew is that the 8 passed the solid." I told him he could put it back where he thought it was(within reason!). He declined and said no hard feelings and left. A few other things were said during this but irrelevant. A few people there said he quit on me so he owes me!!! But I'm not that type of person tho.
