Update on the Des Moines pool scene

Ya, I wish.... Thursday night a guy did buy the $9500 Egyptian themed one he had though. No, I only spent $3000ish. I have a couple of real nice customs, 6 or 8 jump cues and a handful of the new "Edge" performance shafts......and of course they are all for sale....:woot:

I looked at all his cues at state....and so, just to give you a plug...

THAT GUY MAKES SOME BEAUTIFUL CUES...and I'm not really into that. I buy cheap but good and don't care about the looks of my cues.

If he makes money and survives, Jacoby will be one of the great ones, I'll bet. His would make a good investment, imho.

Wow, that sounds familiar.... I was on my second break and run of the match, and it was a pretty tough one. I had to play extreme inside and carom off of one of his balls to get shape on the eight. I got it, but left myself a sharp angle, and against the rail. I jacked up and center pocketed the eight....the cue ball caromed off of one of his balls and somehow drifted in the side pocket. The second it did one of his players stood up and shouted "YES" while pumping his fist in the air. Needless to say I wanted to stab him in the face. The guy I played was really cool about it and wanted me to know it wasn't him that said that. I told him no problem and calmly said i thought it was pretty $hitty thing to do especially after making a really tough run out. Not once did the guy apologize for being a douche.

Air ball.......air ball.......air ball........air ball......

It's a tough crowd around here.

Noonan! Noonan!

I agree. Some of his plain cues I didn't care for too much, but the guy can make anything you can put in front of him at a fraction of the cost you will get from someone else. There is something to be said about being crowned "Cue of the Year" two years in a row, and being the President of the Cue Makers Association. Not to mention he and his son are just super guys to deal with.

The beauty about being a wholesale dealer of pretty much all major brands means that I get to play with all of the new stuff that comes out. I have played with ALL of the "technology" shafts and hands down like the Jocoby Edge shaft the best. He kind of took a combination of all of them and made it even better. Plus you can order them in lengths up to 31 inches in any diameter and taper at no extra cost.....No one else does that, and they are made in house.

I met one of his craftsmen...I forget his name, but he was going to be fixing cues but couldn't cuz Groucho or what's his name was there doing it.

I have to ask....How do you pronounce his name?

JAKE o be

or

jay KO be

?

Congrats to all you DM players that did well. It seemed to be a pretty good tournament this year all things considered.

My team did the best we've ever done...4th in OL1. I was rather proud of my son...he got 5-6 in OL@ 8ball singles. First time he's ever done better than win 2 - lose 2. He's changed some of his aiming technique and has shown great improvement over the last 6 months.

Unfortunately, I fell flat on my face...2 and out in both singles. Had a bout with some nastey food over at the River Boat I think. Felt fine for teams though.

What are we going to do if this tournament ever moves to DM? I mean with the opportunity for growth at that location, we might need to run a full week to get through all the events. Of course you guys probably won't mind...you'll be sleeping in your own beds.

Weel, let's all hope it gets there. This tournament has peaked I think. Last years and this years attendance were very similar...lost a few singles and gained a couple of teams. Not much growth and I believe it's because of location...we've run out of EASTERN Iowa leagues. But wait, where's the WESTERN Iowa Leagues?

Congrat's again...next stop Des Moines Cornfield County Classic two week event and Expo ;).

Love the talk Ken, but sleeping in your own bed is over-rated. I would have to do 'regular family' stuff, instead of sleeping till noon and staying out till 3 or 4 am. Just sayin'.

I would love to see it in the bigger venue, however. A one pocket tournament with 9' tables, maybe even a banks division? A 'green room' for 'warm-up' matches. Some streaming tables, gladiator action pit, and make a big deal out of the finals instead of playing in front of a crowd of 6.

It could very well run a weekend, plus a week, plus Saturday with an easy day to drive home Sunday.... Imagine a bracket with 750 players?? It could very well be possible.

Maybe then the Master's division would get more players....

It could very well end up the ISPA could be the MWISPA (Mid-West and Iowa State Pool Association). I could see leagues sanctioning and coming to play from all over -- NE, MN, WI, IL (oh, we have Illinois leagues already), IOWA.

Who knows....

I thought we were in the midwest?

So, a blonde is across the river from another blonde and one yells to the other: "Come on over to the other side!"

She looks up river and then down river and answers, "But, I'm already on the other side!"

Dustin Gunia won the singles and his team took 1st as well.

Not a surprise - they were a stout team.

I'm disappointed that I didn't get a photoshopped photo with the hooter girls at ISPA...:o

Is everyone in a "post-thanksgiving nap" type of stupor after ISPA? Kinda quiet around here....

About one week till Viva...Richardson and I will be tearing up the card tables and pool tables...well hopefully.
