Update on the Des Moines pool scene

Thats funny to me. I built and sided houses from age 16-25. I saw some of the weirdest things while i was working. I once got kicked off a job because i was 18 ......i was in charge of my own crew, and i owned all my own tools and what not.

Builder said i wasnt old enough to run a crew. He didnt seem to notice half the house was done, and looked perfect though :(
 
In my opinion, everyone who has a job right now should be very grateful. I certainly am, and am always looking for ways to make myself more valuable.

But to keep this post pool related... last night I played in the Sunday tourny at Big Dog's. I didn't get home until 1am so am not at 100% today.

I played okay but not great, found the tables a little tough because of significant speed differences between them and some dead/mushy rails. I enjoyed it, but I'm not sure how many of these I can make it to and still keep my job. :) We might try the Friday night weekly instead.

I agree with that. Good luck on Fridays, its a good tourney. I won't ever be playing in it but I like it. I'm quite pissed today actually, I think my period is coming haha!

It was good to be playing again, even though it was a little frustrating at times, like when there were 5 or 6 open balls to run and I only got 1 or 2...that usually doesn't get the job done! I would like to play more too, I'll talk to Justin this weekend.

I don't think I am going to be playing too much this weekend though, I'll be spectating. I am really looking forward to it. It's not too often that a match like this happens, especially in Des Moines, Iowa!
 
I want to say thank you to everyone that showed up for the Friday 10-ball, and the Sunday 9-ball tourneys this week! We were still missing a couple people, but I'm sure the nice weather played a part in that. Good to see everyone gettin fired up for the big weekend as well. Should be a great match!! Can't wait to see all of you here.

I posted a new thread about a qualifier tourney on Wednesday night. The winner gets into the big ring game on Thursday! If anyone wants to get in they need to contact me soon because I'm sure it will fill up fast. If the first tourney goes good, we will do another one. Check out the thread!

My opinion is you go either 8 man for $65 a person or 16 man for like $35 a person and winner qualifies. Only reason I say that is no one wants to play a qualifier where a couple people will have byes to start with. If you get 10 I'll be shocked. If you do 8 man or 16 man I think it will fill up. Then again no one knows whos gonna be in it. I wouldnt want to play Scott or SVB or Bergman or Banks Jr. or whatever beater decides to get staked. Good Luck.

The qualifier tourney has been changed to an 8 man tourney. There won't be any byes. I'm sure the first one will fill up fast, so everyone needs to call me asap to reserve your spot!! 515-262-6523
 
Where are the Des Moines players?

Hey guys, so why aren't any of you jumpin on the chance to play in the big game? $65 to win how much? Anything can happen in ring games as you all know. I don't get why you guys aren't gettin pumped up for this. I would like to see local guys jump in the ring instead of just out of towners. Nothing to be afraid of guys, it's just pool! Des Moines needs to be represented in this!!

Maybe they feel a little jadded.
 
I just want to see Des Moines guys get in there and play, and who knows, because anything can happen on a 7ft table. Everyone has a shot in that game. It's good experience too.

Two days notice, possibly? I would have loved to play in something like this, but I already have plans.
 
I can take a wild guess on the issue. Not enough notice, $65 fee that's winner take all, the fact that it is on a bar box, unclear on the payouts, no rules posted, no ante structure posted...basically not enough information. Too many question marks for the guys, all they know is SVB and Scott will be in it...I'll be making my way back Thursday night to catch the tail end of the game, people are going to pool money when it comes time to actually play the game...my prediction is there wont be a qualifier but you will have a full 6 man ring game. Just my guess.

I know quite a few people have contacted me and also don't like the change of plans but such is life. Let's just wish the event luck and be as supportive as we can. Thanks.
