Bill & Shannon's match is over. Bill ran 7 racks on SD- his first shot a kick in game# 8. Final score 9-6 Bill. I am happy for him- we are really good friends w/ him so it's not so bad that SD lost. He will just have a longer day/night. Also, Jeremy Jones (last years winner) lost to Wade Crane. So, if SD and JJ win their next matches they will meet the round after. So, one of them will be having a short day. :(

My family and my schedule don't allow me to venture from the immediate area often, so I will probably not be able to go to Greenville. You saw what my golf game looks like after a long weekend of pool do you really want to witness that again? :(

GL to Shannon in the tournament and GL to you having to put up with him.:p

I always say there's two ways to look at it when in this kind of a predicament. If Shannon wins his next round, his engine will be revved up, and he may just roll on up to the finish line, in fine fashion! :)

The second way to look at it, if he suffers a loss, you guys can catch up on some much-needed rest. I'm still recovering from Vegas. It's nice to not have to be racing against the clock all the time too. :o

Billy has been playing lights out the past few weeks. He seems to have hit a gear lately.

Based on your post it appears to me that there is lot of synergism which benefits both.
Shannon was more fun when he was a teen ager. he slowed down now.when he was 18 year old he won the one pocket tournament of legends in lexington,KY beating legends like ``Buggs`` in the finals.
Note: I did not intend to hijack the thread from mobile.Let us now talk about mobile.

Finally, I've got the scoop.

Wade Crane beat Bill Bailey. Shannon and Jeremy played. Score 7-7 SD breaks comes up dry- JJ runs the set out.:( Then JJ plays Brandon Thomas and has him 8-2 and lost the set.??? I don't know I guess all you can say is bar table 9-ball. John Schimdt got beat by David Crest. Alot of good players fell by the wayside today.

Then we have the final 16- Matches are as follows:

Winners side:

James Walden/Wade Crane
Randy Jordan/Doug Young
Chuck Dorsett/Billy Miles
Josh Hilliard/Chad Vilmont

One Loss side:

Gary Abood/Bill Bailey
Paul Song/Bill Folmar
David Crest/Gary Lutman
Brandon Thomas/Cliff Joyner

Who will be the winner???

I'll take James Walden.

We'll see. Will update as soon as I get info.

Sorry it took so long my laptop is acting up.

I would love to hear some stories about Shannon playing when he was younger. I heard he was an explosive player. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten to see him play since he really hasn't played competitively in a few years. I mean I have seen him play good pool but you know what I mean. I have heard so many stories about his game when he was in his prime. Please share.:)

I know that Gabe got beat by Tony Watson 9-2 his first match and then forfeited his second match. He went home after someone gave $800 for him in the calcutta.

Looks like everyone else is going to casually overlook this crock of crap.... But I am not. BOOOOOO! Shame on Gabe for being a quitter.

Rest??? What is that? Sleep?? Wow it seems like we are always on the go. Just got back from Vegas and seems like we'll be in Reno before you know it. We have a tourney at the end of the month, thank god it's at home. I really enjoy running the tour but it takes alot of time and energy.

I have had a good trip here in Mobile considering I have just been relaxing w/ the boys. Nice change of pace.:D

I guess I'll see you in a few weeks.

And then there were 5......

Playing for the winners side

Doug Young / Chad Vilmont

One loss side

James Walden / Bill Bailey Match in progress - Billy Miles waiting for winner of that match.

Results thus far:

5/6th Randy Jordan & either Walden or Bailey

7/8th Gary Lutman & Josh Hilliard

9th-12th Wade Crane, Cliff Joyner, Chuck Dorsett, Paul Song

It has been a long and grueling weekend for all of these guys. It's good to see Gary Lutman back on the tournament trail again. He is from the St. Louis area and hasn't played pool in 20 years. Rumor has it that he has been practicing everyday for the past month or so and it shows here in Mobile, AL. He lost his first match to Jeremy Jones and has battled all day long. He won 9 matches in a row today and that says something considering the tough conditions these guys are playing under. No sleep and no time to think. Just alot of pool playing. Congratulations Gary for a solid finish!

Pool room picks: SD-Chad Vilmont but pulling for Bill Bailey!!!

More updates soon!!:)

Well if a guy wants to quit on HIS OWN dough, that's his business. But as happened in Mobile with Watson, the same thing happened to me a couple years ago in Gulfport with Wade Crane at a Pechauer event. I bought him in the Calcutta, but he left and forfeited his second match. At least he was in for half!!

JAM, I think you have to consider that Shannon has a serious record of coming out of the loser's bracket like NO ONE ELSE. He once lost his very first match in a large one pocket tournament then went on to go through the VERY best one pocket players in the tournament to win. Considering that Buddy Hall, Efren Reyes, Grady Mathews, Johnny Ervolino and many other top players were in attendance (I think 80 or so players), this is testimony to SD's tenacity and talent. I believe that Shannon is more deadly coming out of the loser's bracket than the winners. :-)

Calcutta's are a gamble and this is the risk people take when they participate.

Uhhhhh, where did you get the info that Gary hasn't played pool in the past 20 years? He might be wishing he hadn't played any pool the past 20 years as he would then have enough money to buy a small yacht.

How much did each of the places in the tournament pay?
