Hey guys
I want to buy this table:

It's 20 years old though
is 3500 a descent price? (new ones go for 10.500)

Hi. In the US, GC's are easy to find in the 1500 to 2000 USD range, usually with a light included. This would be a commercially used table, but in good shape.

Now, if you buy one that was "never" used commercially, and the original owner bought it new from Brunswick/dealer, than than might be worth a bit more.

I don't know how common GC's are in Canada.

But in the US, 3500 CND is 3200 USD, and that is way to high, imo.

Regarding the new retail price of 10k USD, no one buys a GC new. Its crazy expensive. Eveyrone buys them used for 1500 to 2000 USD.

If you want to compare it to a new table, you would go the Diamond route. A new Diamond table is about 5000 to 5500 USD. That should be your baseline for "new", not GC "retail" pricing.

Good luck:)

hi sneaky
if your interested i've got a diamond professionel all oak with matching diaomond light also oak full size brand new simonis cloth 2500
table is about 6hrs from you

If it's a Gold Crown IV, then the link below seems to think $3,500 is a good price.

That thread was 2006 :D
There has been a recession - you might have heard about it. :D

Point about the price of a new Diamond (or one used at a tournament) rather than what Hallmark Billiards is asking for a Gold Crown is relevant.

Suggest that, before making an offer, you get a price from a mechanic for dismantling, moving, and reassembling, and whatever else you want done.

One outfit I contacted about overhauling a table quoted two visits - because it takes the rails back to the shop to do the cushions.
Travel time around Toronto can kill you. :D

thanks guys.
I felt that 3500 was too much and that i was comfortable around 2000
he did say that the table belonged to someone who was an instructor and a professional referee.
so it was kept clean. Also comes with balls and 2 cues (about 100$ each)

I think the bigger factor was a GC iv in 2006 couldn't be that old. Either that or those 'appraisers' were Rubes over there..

Table

The table in the ad above is a GC3, the GC3 was produced from 1976-1997.
$3,500 is a bit high in price but I know they can sell for that in the right condition but that's figuring in installation as well.

Oh' and for the record, ppl do buy brunswick GC 5 brand new and used from retailers.

Well if they didnt -how would they ever get 'used' ? I do doubt many pay $10.5 though . That seems crazy even today.

Two years ago I paid $2,500 for a mint condition GC IV. That included delivery, setup and new 860. I think that III is overpriced considering that it's a haul it away yourself deal.

But, I just came back from a motorcycle tour of northern Ontario. I was shocked at the prices. The exchange was 106 Can for $100 US. That meant nothing. A $75 motel would cost $150. Gas about 30% more and food was about 50% more. Now this was way the hell up in the Arctic Ocean watershed with a pretty short season for making money, but still.

You're a short drive from Detroit, pack a bulletproof vest, cross the border and make a deal. Or maybe not.

Hahahahaha too funny!!!!
I would but then Canadians will KILL you with the customs fees!
That's the problem !

Sneaky, I'm serious. That GC III looks to be in near mint condition so that drives up the price. And after my Canadian tour I've found that there is no judging price from those of us in the lower 48. Any true estimates on value would have to come from other's in southern Ontario.

There has to be deals to be made in Detroit or Buffalo. If it's a tear down and haul it yourself back home, how much tax could be added to a van full of junk? OK, parts from an $800 table? How much is a set-up with new 860 from a local mechanic has to be added in.

BTW, Americans are bring back (smuggling) high-flow toilets every day. Our EPA has created some weird criminality.

I think $3500 and you pay for moving and installation is way out of line.

GC3's had a problem with the cushions dying early. Have the cushions been replaced with better rubber? When they die, they are completely unplayable. You may want to replace the cushions during installation if the owner has no idea about the history.

You may want to find out how much moving and cushion replacement will cost.

local shop offering me for $2.5K, new simonis and rails, plus delivery and install for GC3.

I don't know how common GC's are in Canada.

Nowhere near as common compared to the USA. I looked for a couple of years with no luck, closest I found was in Idaho, a 10 hour drive from my home. Brunswick snooker tables can be found, but very few 8' or 9' (what I was looking for).
