US Open 08/18-23

Dead wrong. You cannot pick up very small motions in slow motion. You have to look at it in real time.
Matter of fact, Marcel was the referee in another match where he called a foul on a very slight movement and it was challenged. They played it first in slow motion and it was not visible then they played it in real time and it was very clear. Not sure if others can remember that incident.
Wait I'm not certain about the name but is Marcel the refereee who squints his eyes to look for a foul? if thats the guy who I think he is, then he's the worst referee in the history of pool.

oh my god I just google'd it, that was the referee? hahaha

no wonder he missed the foul, in my book he's the worst referee that ever existed, so many fouls he called good, so many good shots he called fouls. I can make an entire thread about this referee, with vids and photos.

this man doesn't even understand the behavior of a cueball after hitting a cluster of balls to identify a foul, he squints to eye ball it which is the wrong way of identifying a foul in pool, all you need to look for is the reaction of the cueball, but yea.

back to the topic, now I know why the foul wasn't called, so thanks for mentioning his name VVP.

Now you are a confirmed joker. I'll let it rest.

Google "Eagle eye marcel pool" and you will see the incident I was talking about. I can't post the link here. Maybe someone can.
Bro anyone can see he glanced the 9ball, even Karl in the booth said it before Marcel, I dunno what does this proves...I saw he glanced the nine before Marcel or Karl even said foul, does that make me an Eagle eye? no.

I've definitely seen much worse refs than Marcel, and I think he did a good job overall this match, this one possible non-call excepted. I will say that while he was excellent at keeping the crowd quiet during shots, he overdid it a bit. One lady was crinkling open a candy wrapper during a shot and Marcel was waving at her to shush, and did it multiple times over the course of a couple shots. The problem? While doing so, he wasn't exactly watching the player bent over a shot. I think that should take precedence over some crinkling wrapper.

He's not bad. He probably gets more calls right than your average baseball umpire. He made some egregious calls in the past couple of years. When Dr. Dave publishes a video about your mistakes it's never good.

But he did blow this one.

Yapp literally just fouled on cue'ing jacked up on the 9ball shooting the 6ball

nobody saw it, not the referee, not the commentary, nobody? tell me you guys saw it, the 9ball moved while he's shooting.

he fouled and said nothing, then ran out winning the US 9ball

this is the first ever I think that this happened, it's like Maradonna putting a goal with his hands in a world championships if you guys remember it! It's the same, cheat to win :)

Just like the semifinals match yesterday. A lot of people swore Fedor’s left shoulder brushed the 7 ball, that was the 18th game against Michael Baoanan. He proceeded to win the game and the match. He held his pose for as long as he can, like he was conciously proving he didn’t feather the 7 with his sleeves.

Great tournament! The announcers referred to the environment as "Mosconi" like, and I would have to agree. While we will get the on site review from Stu, I can say that as a fan whi has watched every MR major, they made this one seem like a bigger deal than any of the others, and it seemed as if the players felt it too. This is just my observation, so take it for what it's worth.

As far as the foul/non-foul, I called the foul watching it live, and a few buddies agreed upon replay. There is nothing about Yapp that leads me to believe he would intentionally be deceptive. It's a sport. Things happen in every game...holding calls get missed, strikes aren't called, offsides calls are wrong...it's part of it.

I will give Yapp the benefit of the doubt that he was oblivious. He always presents himself as professional, humble, and likeable. Congrats on one of the great runs in pool history...

Reminds me of Filler Pre-Covid and FSR a few years ago...

Great view of the shot... The 9 moved.
If you go frame x frame you see the CB and 9B rocking in unison per increment - just about. Suddenly you see the final poke where the CB is shot away and though the CB is gone you see the stick appear graze the 9B as it passes upwards. Interesting that this movement is identical to the jitters. If you jog this contact spot, no contact is visible and the CB is seen falling back into place. Now I just did this full screen and guess what? The CB continues its frame x frame dance.

This clip needs to be examined for actual sync.

I believe it's an optical illusion caused by shadow of the camera angle. If you focus on the ring on the 9 ball, which you can see, it does not move. Water over the dam at this point though. Marcel is one of the best referee in the sport and he would have been all over that.
If you just watch the shadow, only the shadow moves. Also shadow contact is not a foul.

Agreed. The Matchroom setup was excellent. The crowd was great. The locale and history of the event make it bigger than the WPC, even though the players and announcers kept suggesting they were on par. The WPC pays a lot more, but the locales pale in comparison obviously.

The crowd and history of the event added unbearable pressure on the players. We saw that in the semis and especially the last few racks of the finals. Gorst and Yapp had a flurry of misses.

It wasn’t always great pool, but it was riveting.

The Florida and U.S. opens were both big successes. Sure seems the U.S. could support another Matchroom major. Not sure Hanoi is even better. Bigger crowds, sure, but the U.S is still the true home of modern pool.

I did not notice anything in real time. Only heard about it here.

Yapp is better now than FSR ever was imo. Really has come into his own. He’s grown into a man, even if he still acts a little goofy off the table. Actually heard him tell the rest of the players in the world to beware of Asia. He’s always lacked some confidence. Not anymore.

For those who say the Mosconi and Reyes don’t matter, Yapp steeled himself for his big run of success this year after the cauldron of the inaugural Reyes when he was MVP. He doesn’t win three major opens this year if not for that.

Now he’s the best player in the world. Took down Filler and Gorst to prove it.

Search facebook for "eagle eyes from Marcel Eckhardt. He missed a big call in Yapp vs Gorst. Admittedly difficult to see but that's they only reason he is there.
