US Open 2026: Frisco, Texas

I'll keep an open mind here, but Dallas (actually, Frisco is 27 miles from Dallas) in August seems a very strange choice. Other than the Jeddah WPC event that is always played before countless empty seats, the last time a Matchroom major was staged in a really hot, humid city in the hot weather season was when they staged the Spanish Open in June 2023 in Lugo, Spain.

I cannot remember an event after which the players complained so much about the humid playing conditions, and to nobody's surprise, Matchroom never returned there, If Frisco is going to be Lugo all over again, heaven help all of us who plan to attend.

I'll trust Matchroom to make this work, but they have got their work cut out. Let's hope they will manage the playing conditions more skillfully than they did in Lugo.
Indoor conditions at the WPC seemed fine. So it's not the outside weather, it's the indoor climate control.

The Hanoi Open last year was worse than Lugo, but players strangely did not complain as much. A huge flood/storm before event delayed it, as you recall, and the humidity was incredible. Won't stop MR from returning.

BTW, I thought the event in Lugo was the best attended, and had the best atmosphere, of any MR majors in the UK and Europe. Only the German site a few years ago for one of the Euro opens compared. Europeans evidently don’t do AC well!

Frisco August averages run about 95deg/60%humidity. If i go i'm gonna be: A.watching pool B. IN the pool and C. IN a bar/tavern of some kind. I'm not going to be out dealing with Dallas traffic in that weather. If i play golf it will at 0-dark-thirty then straight to the hotel. BTW, don't be surprised if you see people in sweaters/sweatshirts. Texans DO like their A/C and its often near arctic in some places. Embassy won't be doggin it when it comes to A/C.

No it's not. I grew up in Alabama and Texas and I worked in Texas as recently as 2022. Yes, it is miserable and sucks taking a shower and then immediately needing another one; however, it doesn't come close to not being able to touch a car or when you step out of a casino (Bullhead/Laughlin) when it's 126 outside and that hot air smacks you in the face like a 10 lb sledgehammer.
Just differing opinion , I guess. The high in Phoenix last year was August at 118. The average high for August was 108.
The average August high for Dallas was the mid 90s.
I’ll take a dry 108 over a humid 95 any day.

I think the location will be fine regarding playing conditions. The Florida Open was in Orlando in mid-August last year and it was comfortable inside.

But yeah, getting in your car at mid-day to go out for lunch...
Orlando is about 15 degrees cooler than Dallas in the summer. The superb Caribe Royale Hotel in Orlando has proven a great venue for pool.

the worst is when it doesn't cool off at night. when i was kid we only a/c'd the front of the house. trying to sleep in 85deg swamp air is not fun.

actually up north its not so common to have days below 20 or 30 degrees in the afternoon. and many are out hunting, fishing, skiing, or just doing chores. even on the colder days. just a warm jacket.
not of course the ladies with plastic fingernails and high heels, and the men in suits and ties. they are indoor complaining.

you get used to wherever you live. my dad was from northwest Penn and he never liked it when it got hot here in Tulsa. we always went to the gun club when it was jacket/sweatshirt weather.

if you like swimming in 90 plus or more water temps. its just like a warm bath and no fun. unless she has a cooling system as well.

pool temp is best around 80 plus or minus two degrees for most.

Frisco is a nice suburb. Been there a few times for FCS National Championship games (Go Bison!).
Easy access to DFW, lots of good bars/restaurants in the area.
I think the area feels like MSP, but super sized.
Which facility was that game at? Indoor at the Star or a bigger stadium? Didn’t feel like MSP to me as a guest in both. But I do like both. Haven’t done MN in Jan or DFW in August tho.

I think this is great news. Gives me a chance to sweat the open for the first time. Not sure how the weather is relevant, the AC will be blasting. They put the rangers in an indoor stadium to keep the fans cool. Plenty of good eating. Also if you have to gamble it’s legal to bet on just about anything on your phone so no real need to have a nearby casino to give your money to.
