US Open 9-Ball, 2023, Atlantic City, Sep 25-30

Kinda exciting. No matter who wins it will be a dream outcome.

yes, a first time winner.

what i've seen from yapp hasn't been as impressive as the others (or as himself the year he was runner up). pecelj can be just as dangerous as ko or gorst, he probably made more BNRs than the others in the last two matches. ran a 6-pack in his 10-1 win over ralf in L16. but the lack of final experience still makes him an underdog. ko / gorst is a toss up

Bad call here.
Hindsight is a powerful thing.

A shot was played and the 8 moved. Based on what he saw. The ref made the right call. Of course he works for MR so clearly he's incompetent and his history of getting insanely close calls right thus far were pure luck.

I think Gorst handled it on the break. Still doesn't sit right that there was in fact no foul. Even if the ref ( I forget his name ) thought he saw a bad hit, who's gonna believe it was a legit error when the overhead clearly shows a clean hit?

Pretty sure the overhead shot showed the 8 ball move as well. Whether or not the 8 moved is where the ref's focus should be placed. It moved, so the call was made. How does the ref determine the movement was due to the ball settling and not being struck..?

We want this game to be faster. Unless we want them to take longer.

The call was what it was. Nothing subjective about it

We (talking U.S. pool ) are now getting our dicks handed to US by places like Serbia. WTF?? Nothing against Serbs, i'm sure they're cool cats but my point is that U.S. pool may be much better in some ways with tons of Fargo rated events for Joe Public but in the pro pool arena we are sorely lacking. This has been covered ad nauseum on AZ and the reasons are many but i still find it amazing how few really top players this country produces these days. Just my rambling $.02 worth, nothing more.

Its weird. I think there are as many people playing in the USA as in the 90's? I don't remember now.

Yeah, hindsight is a powerful thing, it’s called video replay. Was it readily available in this specific situation? If so, ref should have used it. It might be problematic, since not all tables would have it. As far as this particular ref goes, he has interjected himself into several situations, unnecessarily. Why he thinks the eight ball moved is a complete mystery. Also, it doesn’t even matter if the eight ball moves, unless it’s struck by the cue ball before it hits the six. That obviously did not happen.

If it'll make you feel any better (or worse), the U. S. Ryder Cup team got shut out yesterday. :(

So many uninformed opinions being spouted off as fact. The 8 moved. Video after the fact proves that. The ref's insanely keen eye caught it. Much like the foul he called on Albin that couldn't been seen on video replay at slow mo, but noticeable at full spd.

A video replay was not required to prove the 8 moved. I'm betting that's why they didn't bother. The likelihood of the movement not being caused by the CB passing by was miniscule.

Unfortunate call, ref did nothing wrong. You want to pretend pool is a sport..? ...well this is what you get.

Enjoy

Yes, it looks like Gorst handed him back a game. Maybe that's why Gorst took a break also. I like the ref, but I think 3 camera angles showed the 8 did not move. They should have recheck the video on such a close/bad call.

Thank God there is one in a billion that saw the 8 move on the replay 😀 😄

He might want to quit pool and become a movie star.
Two years ago I would float the Guadalupe River , drink 40 beers , get sunburned, do shots , then go to tha pool room and play Lil Laz 9ball on the bar table . We played several times the same way / me drunk lol , don’t think I’ll be doing that anymore lol ……. Good going young man , I’ll come donate to ya soon
