US Open (9 ball) 2024, August 19-24, Atlantic City

Tyler and Wolford are out and Billy Thorpe looks set to join them.

Those last 2 spots for Team USA are a concern.

I think you have to pick Oscar as he is capable of playing well.

I would then pick somebody like Hunter Lombardo. Time to give somebody else a chance, Tyler keeps failing in the MC.
Oscar beats all 3 of them on average

You’d have to be smoking crack to pick Hunter Lombardo over someone like Tyler. And I say that as someone who’s not real high on Tyler to begin with.

I’d pick Oscar and then think about giving Shane Wolford another shot to get some experience and prove himself.
Hunter is like the best guy in a metropolitan pool hall....but not a world beater.

LAST 64
Pretty balanced draw
12x800 in top half, 14x800 in bottom half
4 Top 10 Fargo in each half
Main match of last 64 is rematch of last years final KPC v Gorst.
Undercard matches- Alex v Alex, Krause v Filler, Johann Chua v Naoyuki Oi

Pick a kid thats a winner and has confidence like Evan Lunda.

He just doesn’t play in enough tournaments but those 3 can’t beat him. Its close but what’s in your noggin means a lot.

Americans left standing at the Open and their matches.

Oscar Dominguez v. Francisco Sanchez Ruiz (This will be a cracker at 10 a.m. ET)

Fedor Gorst v. Ko Ping Chung (Fedor faces defending champion)

Sky Woodward v. Chris McDaniel (Hard to root against an American.)

Shane Van Boening v. Francesca Candela. (Shane is hungry for this win and is in dead-punch stroke)

Jonathan Pinegar v. Ko Ping Han (Hennessee will have his hands full with one of the Ko brothers, the youngest)

Jeremy Jones v. B.J. Ussery (Jeremy taking no prisoners, but B.J. is in it to win it.)

Chris Reinhold v. Jeffrey Ignacio (Chris has to avoid getting snake-bit by the Cobra)

Fedor Gorst v. Ko Ping Chung (Fedor faces defending champion)

Sky Woodward v. Chris McDonald (Hard to root against an American. Sky always gives it his all. Chris McDonald is a veteran, going back as far as the Camel Tour)

Shane Van Boening v. Francesca Candela. (Shane is hungry for this win and is in dead-punch stroke)

Did JJ pull double duty yesterday in the booth as a commentary and as a player?

Can someone post a publicly available bracket that doesn't require a MR login? Can that be added to the top thread of this post, ie. "sticky"?
Thanks!
Well, at least this is a European based site that is required to comply with the GDPR and DPA, which has more teeth to it than any American based site. You actually do have some control over what data they keep on you and what they do with it. You can also go to your user preferences page and turn off communication (spam) from them. You should be prompted about cookie choices, and have the ability to disable all of them, instead of giving literally 1000's of their "partners" your data.

Had to go back last night and watch the Earl vs. Marvin Asis match – Frosty said this a few times and I totally agree, after the break Earl still looks really, really freaking good. I only recall him missing the one easy 2 ball, and that miss was much more about trying to manufacture a shot on the 3 than it was anything else. The problem is he breaks about as well as I do – its an absolute abomination.

Hat tip to Marvin Asis, who played and broke really well. Frankly, both Earl and Marvin looked a whole ball better than Carlo Biado and Chris Melling who I skipped ahead and watched after.

those pinoy players are like cryptonite to earl's antics. marvin didn't GAF.

but yea in all 3 matches earl's attack play was really, really impressive. breaking + jump cue obsession + tinkering with his gadgets was his downfall. his first match vs delawder is on MR youtube

he's been in the booth some but also been awol a lot. they were one man short to begin with (the irish guy) so scott and karl are definitely earning their pay.

i'm rooting for him. beating tyler and thorsten is quite impressive
I watched a short vid from off the rail last night.
Emily was saying how she encouraged JJ to play in the Open after he mentioned being interested in giving it a go.
He said he had commentary work so he probably shouldn't.
Emily told him to go for it I guess but said in the vid that she figured he'd go 2 and out.

Maybe he will.

Have you watched the streams from those guys?
People are seated close, and all around the table.
They're waving their arms around while they are talking, moving, and walking in and out while the guys are shooting.
Bugs are flying around the lights, the balls, and the players.
There is no way any other group of players are as mentally tough as the Pinoys.
I wish I had half of their focus and ability to block out my surroundings.
