US Open (9 ball) 2024, August 19-24, Atlantic City

Think they emailed everyone on their mailing list now. Must have been 50+ players missing from the field for this to have gone to general sale.
I think it might only be a dozen but they will still want to fill the field. At this late date, I don't think there are too many who could commit to the travel and cost. The hotel for the duration will be over $1000. (Edit: if you book directly through Harrah's, weeknights are $125 including all taxes and fees. The resort fee is $28/night and might not be listed in all quotes.)

I just got my invitation. Here's the link:

An organisation of Matchroom's size should be able to avoid this. It's insane that some 40/50 player qualifiers only had 2 spots to grab and now there's a rush to fill the last 20ish spots on general sale.

They could also send inquiries to all regional 700+ players (speaking for UK/EU/US Open) to register interest as a stand-by. 5 days prior to event not many people can get time off work or justify travel/lodging/playing expenses.

Where to watch...

Draw is up! I count 24 byes. A few of my local buddies from Philly are in. They didn't play in any qualifiers. I guess they just paid normally once it was opened up one week ago.

The draw ended up with 24 byes. We won't know the actual number of players until the first round has finished.

At this point, for the 128 non-seeded spots, they got 104 players through qualifiers, wildcards, and open entries (near the end).

I forgot -- there were four entries from the Salotto "Golden Ticket" promotion.'

Edit again: former winners.

I think this qualifier format was good, overall.

First 128 get in by tour status. A few wildcard invites by MR for publicity, such as Barry. Former US Open winners such as Gabe and Earl are in. The majority of "good" players (that got out of bed) get in by qualifier. Then the rest of us "bangers" can buy a spot if any are left, which there were plenty this year.

When the demand fills out for this in the coming years, the structure is in place to accommodate it.

I think they need to start working now on the qualifiers for next year, though. Hard to get info and the details/format seemed to be pretty chaotic even after qualifiers were announced.

For international players and international qualifiers, I'd agree. They plan in advance.

For USA qualifiers, it will make zero difference. We all decide the morning of if we are going;)

If the prize fund ever gets to 1MM for this event, the locals will be lining up out the door, and the better players will FINALLY get out of bed. Then, it will all take care of itself.

IMO:)

It's show time. I'm heading over to Atlantic City in the early afternoon and should be there by 4:00 or 5:00, staying until the tournament is over.

As noted on AZB a year ago, the fields from 2019 and on have been much more elite than in US Opens past and the quality of play is simply mind-blowing. I have been attending US Open events since 1984 and I've never been more excited about the event than I am now.

Let the games begin, and may the best man win. Good luck to all these fine players.

It's a result of the change over to qualifiers. I think it will take a while for the dust to settle. I don't see failing to fill the bottom 128 as a problem.
I'd rather have the 24 byes as opposed to those spots filled by dead-money cannon fodder. I predict MR gets the qualifier process ironed out by next yr.
