There is probably a 1 in a billion chance of it happening (because is Earl is so old and plagued by demons to win more than a few rounds in the US Open)- but how cool would it be if SVB somehow matched up with Earl in the finals to break the tie for 5 US Opens?

I was thinking the same thing. Al though I love that color. I got black at my house Simply because it was a wait for that and I’m not good at waiting lol
You know I thought this then heard commentators say it. He can still run out with the best of them. His break is atrocious . whether that’s a product of age I don’t know but you certainly can’t win in todays 9 ball with a hit them hard and hope something drops break.
i have said the same thing (and now he has retired, more or less, he's working the exhibition scene, just got a wildcard as a previous winner). but did you see him play?
disregarding the antics, which were mainly present in the last match, and just watching what was going on between the rails, it was pretty incredible for a 63 year old.

would not be surprised if Diamond once again found a way to help muck that up
I was convinced Shane and Fedor would end up playing for the title if the brackets were aligned. I thought, if they could just get to single elimination, and get badly needed rest, they would be in top form.
The race to 120 was amazing. I watched most of it on a delayed basis without knowing the outcome. Both players played the best I’ve ever seen them play for long stretches of the match. By day 3 they had their breaks dialed in, safety play was superb, and so forth.
i figured they were so tuned in, the open would seem like child’s play.
Shane actually played his best before Friday. He struggled at times vs Patsura, Filler and Gorst.
Gorst started slow and as usual got better as the week went on. Both of them were carried in part by the best breaking of the tournament imo.
Before the final I told a friend I thought Gorst would win. As great as SVB was, he was making more critical errors in single elimination.

So here's the good news. Matchroom just dropped an e-mail stating that next year's U.S. Open would have a 500K purse with 100K to the winner! Glad to see that, with this years purse of 300K including barely over 100K in added money to the entry fees. The prize money seemed kind of anemic to me considering the importance of this event, one of Pool's majors.
it was announced during play yesterday. Hearn evidently wants to keep upping the prize money. You’d think they could do so for Hanoi given the crowd sizes. MR has to figure out a way to tap more corporate money in Asia. Samsung and LG would be huge gets. I think one of them sponsors Seo Seoa …
By my count, the added money was 46% of the prize fund this year, or nearly half. That already seems pretty good. How was the percentage in the old days?
He has the strangest break stance- crooks his shoulder into his neck. I don’t know why he does that

I’ve always thought the best players got the best rolls. Whatever the case, Fedor won because of his … skill.
The pool record books won’t show a personal race to 120. What they will show is Gorst as the 2024 US Open winner. As I said earlier, Shane put greater weight on the open. Much greater weight.

That's nonsense. Everyone knows about the "color of money" match between Earl and Efren. If someday Fedor is considered among the greats, that money match and subsequent matches will definitely be known and talked about.

I'd say on average pretty close to the same, 40 to 50%. So the majority of the prize money was generated by the player entry fees. If they had filled the field at 256 players, the total added would have been $104,000 or just over 34% of the purse! Even so, 46% is nothing to be proud of now, especially by Pool's number one promoter. I think Barry realized that and gave it a nice bump up. MR is getting some push back from the WPA and needed to step up to the plate prize money wise. Competition is good for the marketplace and good for poolplayers too! Look what the PGA did after LIV threatened to take over. They made drastic increases in prize money and bonus payouts. They had to so to hang onto their top players. Already many of them had deserted the PGA for the money offered by LIV.
Yeah they'll also show Shane's (atleast) 5 wins including the only person to win 3 in a row. Shane's got plenty of time to get number 6.
