These are some of the latest action happenings in Chesapeake from Saturday until last night.
Warren Kiamco played Shane van Boening two sets of 10 ball even at QMasters and beat him last Saturday.
Roberto Gomez played Donnie Mills 10 ball with Mills getting the 8 & 9, rack your own. That was a mistake! It would have been ok if the format was loser racks, but it became obvious in the middle of the match that Mills had perfected his racking technique... He was breaking soft and every time he breaks at least one of the wing balls would go in. Gomez aka "Superman" played superb but the handicap was too much. Every time his opponent breaks and makes a ball or two he would have control over the table and Mills was running out too.
Van Van played Corey some cheap sets of 10 ball and beat him too, I think he beat him twice in a row. The scores were not even close. The same happened with Kiamco and van Boening; the scores were lopsided.
Alcano played some guy; I can't remeber who it was and I think he gave him 8 & 9 and the breaks and robbed him. He just didn't miss.. Oh wait, now I remember, it was Pinegar.
Last night there were a lot of posturing, woofing and barking but nobody stepped up to the plate against these Filipino dudes. Everybody wanted ridiculous spots, nobody even wanted to play them close to even games. They would ask Van Van or Warren or Alcano some ridiculous spots and when one these guys agree to the handicaps, the other dude would say something like,"let me talk to my backer" and never came back.
Mike Dechaine wanted the 8 & 9 and the breaks playing 10 ball from Van Van for two thousand. Van Van agreed to the spot but he wanted to bet five thousand dollars and Dechaine blanched and murmured; "let me talk to my backers" and never came back. Oh, he did come back later on but he just hung out with us in the cafeteria while we were drinking out coffee and waiting for other players to come.
Corey sidled by and wanted play Van Van some rotation but Van Van declined because Corey wanted to play for only two hundred dollars on a race to three set. Van asked him to up it to at least five hundred race to three but it didn't happen.
Pinegar was trying to make a game with Warren but I didn't wait long enough to find out.
Gomez gave Chohan the 8 & 9 playing 10 ball and lost the first set. Chohan was breaking good, making two balls on the break and running out.
Gomez played lights out but it was the same scenario, Chohan breaks, didn't make a ball and Gomez is hooked behind a ball. I tell you though, this kid Gomez breaks like a gorilla! He reminded me of Django some years ago when Django was breaking balls like a gorilla in heat. That's how good Gomez breaks!! His cue ball control is also amazing and when he runs out, it looks like he was just practicing. Man oh man, can this kid play or what! No wonder Efren called him "Superman"!!
They were talking for another set but I had to go. I know Gomez was doubling the bet against Chohan and company but we will find out if it happened or not...
Anyways, I will post some more action reports as soon as my boys call me today.
