US Open Finals - Mika VS Ralf

this is going to be a nail biter. Big props to Mika for coming ALL the way through the losers side.. amazing.

To come through all that and the hill/hill w Donnie and then have to face this ROCK in the finals. Good luck Mika. That would be some accomplishment.

Game #11.

Ralf makes the wing ball and gets a shot on the 1ball, with natural position to the 2ball. The 2 is in a weird spot though.

Ralf makes a beautiful shot to get on the 2ball, perfect speed. Ralf then butchers the next shot, leaving himself tough on the 3ball. He then opts to play safe. A decent effort, but an easy kick for Immonen.

Mika kicks and sells it out. This isnt looking good for Mika. Thats 3 errors in 3 attempts to the table.

Ralf rolls up frozen to object ball, forcing him to duck. Mika gets out the old jump cue that he hates so much. :p

He flukes the 6 ball in but snookers himself on the 5ball. The fluke is nullified. Mika makes yet another error, and Ralf takes his 5th game in a row.

7-4 Ralf

Game #10 (part 2)

Ralf gets out the jump cue. I bet Mika's pissed. lol

This is a defensive jump. He leaves a shot for Mika with tough position. Mika makes it. He then proceeds to make an amazing positional shot from the 3ball to the 4ball. He should be out here to tie it.

.......but he misses. Mika isnt shooting well at all.

Ralf is out. 4 wins in a row.

6-4 Ralf

Mika leaves himself very close to the side pocket but could get his cue on all parts of the ball, but he was straight in on the 6 ball in the corner and not needing to do anything with the cueball for shape on the 7. He elected to slow roll the 6 and missed, leaving Ralf a easy run out

Game #12

Ralf has a perfect break. The only issue is the 5ball, which is in a modestly awkward place.

Ralf makes an uncharacteristic mistake and plays a poor shot, snookering himself on the 6ball. He's forced to kick.

I'd say that Ralf just sold out, but Mika isn't looking very good right now. If he gets out he might get back on stroke and pull this set back into a match.

Eugh, he just butchered the 7ball, coming far short of position on the 8ball. Its still makeable though.

Mika makes it and runs out. Crazy shot on the 8ball!

7-5 Ralf

Thanks for the input Nathan, you are doing a great job and detailed..LES

Rack #13

Mika breaks. He has a shot on the 1ball. The 2ball is at the other end of the table. Position is far from automatic.

Immonen opts for the 2 rail route and hits it beautifully. He then over rolls position on the 3ball, leaving himself a tough cut into the side pocket. Not pretty...at all.

Excellent recovery. Thank god (I'm obviously pulling for Mika).

Mika runs out the rest of the rack to pull within 1.

7-6 Ralf

Game #14

I can believe this thread has only 1 view for each game that's been played. It's the US Open finals for Christ sake :p

The wing ball goes in, leaving Mika a nice layout if he can get on this 2 ball.

Danny is proposing what I think is an impossible shot. The tangent line is just not going to allow for it given the speed of the shot. Mika chooses what I felt was the better option, but under hits it.

Mika makes....wow...a masse-kick-3-rails and out for position!!! Er..not quite position. He plays safe instead, leaving Ralf a long 2 rail kick, long rail first.

Ralf proves me wrong and goes for the 1-rail kick, but leaves it for Mika, albeit a tough shot. I think the 2-rail version would have left it safer, but who am I to say that?...lol..Ralf is the man!

Anyway, Mika makes the 3ball, and is cruising now. It's tied up at 7!

7-7

Rack #15

Thanks for the comments guys! I was about to quit there, but you guys have given me reason to continue.

Anyway, Mika breaks, makes the wing ball, and is left with a tough 1-8 combo. I'm not sure if he'll take this one on, as the 1ball will be heading down table.

Oh wow. This is why I'm typing and they are playing. Mika makes the combo and holds the 1ball for position.

Mika seems to be back in stroke here. Or at least he's over those opening unforced errors. He's running through these with little effort, about to go 1-ahead.

Mika wins his 4th game in a row (i think?)

8-7 Mika

Issues with the rack, but Varner shows up for a cameo. lol

The break leaves the cue ball way down at the foot of the table. The 1ball is down there too...very strange.

Anyway, Mika plays defensive, leaving....Im not quite sure. I can't tell if Ralf can see part of this 1ball or not? Ralf goes for the short stick, implying that he's snookered.

(thanks Lenny. I sure hope so)

Anyway, sorry, phone call there. Mika is looking good again. He's running through these effortlessly. About to go up by 2 games.

Mika wins.

9-7 Mika

Great updates Nate, looks like Mika will make it back to back if he keeps on his run!

Rack #17

That's 5 unanswered racks by Mika, bringing it back from 7-4. Ralf has lost his momentum...or rather, Mika has taken it back.

Mika breaks, but the wing ball doesn't even threaten the pocket. Ralf is out of the chair finally, with a clean shot on the 1ball. The 2ball is also easy money, with stop-shot position to the 3ball.

The 3ball doenst look like it goes, but Danny thinks the carom might be on (3-9 carom)

Oh wow....Ralf missed the 1 ball and practically jogged back to his chair!

Mika has no shot, so opts for a 4rail safety. He hits it nicely, but falls short of the mark. Ralf is left with a tester here, especially considering his cold arm.

Ralf misses by like 3 inches leaving a shot, albeit a tough one. They're still on the 1ball, with that 3ball carom onto the 9ball waiting.

Mika looks indecisive, and chooses to run into the 3ball instead, opening it up from the 9ball. The billiard must not have been on, otherwise he wouldnt have gone for the break-out.

The result is a little wild, but he's pulling through.

Rack #17 (Part 2)

Mika is back in line. The 6/7 go, but the 8ball only has one obvious pocket. Mika gets on it nicely and rungs out.

6 unanswered games.

10-7 Mika
