US Open hard to watch

Matchroom and DAZN needs to get their act together yesterday

I've been supporting both but when I unexpectedly had to leave on saturday during the finals i did not expect to get back a couple hours later with no recording available,

at the very least they can provide further details about the broadcast

and showing the hill hill semi late in lieu of juniors
come on

Wrong.

She's the Managing Director of Matchroom Multi Sport
Right, which makes her responsible for selling Matchroom and the sport.

Look, she's not totally stupid. Early on Shane skipped an event because the player contract was heavily weighted toward Matchroom. Emily compounded her mistake by mocking him by saying maybe it was time for Shane to go fishing permanently. That came back to bite her. The fans spoke up, the contract was changed, and Shane has played in multiple events since then.

She is capable of correcting errors when the flak gets heavy enough.

I assume it's because of the way broadcast rights are handled. I think how the event will be shown in every country is specified in contracts between the promoter, the producer (Sky Sports?), and the broadcasters/streamers/distributors. The last group wants to send the event out continuously forever and the first two groups want to be paid for every pair of eyes that watches the event. A fourth group, the sponsors, probably wants as much distribution as possible and likely considers that when they offer sponsorship. It's complicated.

I imagine that DAZN pays Matchroom for distribution rights and they only bought live broadcast rights.

I would assume in that situation that Matchroom Live would retain distribution rights after DAZN's broadcast window closes. So maybe we will see the matches reposted there (matchroom.live or its YouTube channel) eventually?

wasn't it predator that had that patch rule in the CLP. seems to have fizzled out, and the predator tour project lets them have their sponsor patches on i think

That's not the way I remember it. She didn't seem to me to be mocking Shane, she just said she didn't know if he was playing, and maybe he was just going fishing. I thought it was a lighthearted comment.

The postings for the European Open might give some indication of what's going to happen. If you look at what's available on the Matchroom Pool YouTube channel, some of the early days seem to be complete streams. From about the quarter-finals on, only highlights are available.

That much is already available for the US Open on Matchroom Pool YT:

LMAO, this went over well :ROFLMAO: You guys think Kaci can't play a lick with the shotclock? Give me a break.
Yup... he played well. I think the shot clock actually helped him. They all know how to play well enough to just follow their instincts/first thoughts.

Personally I'd love play most people with a shot clock ... I feel like my "pool mind" is faster than most at seeing the correct shot. Executing it is another matter. :)

I think it is a bit snarky, a passive aggressive jab.

Once again, blame someone else for your (anyone's) mistake. If you knew you were going to be playing a tournament with the black set, dont you think it would be prudent to go buy a set and practice with them?
I didnt seem to hear people complain this much about the pink 4 ball "TV sets" or the Cyclops skittles colors, they were different but they didnt do something as asinine as swapping the colors of 2 balls (consecutive nonetheless) with each other. It seems like Emily and Matchroom made this change just for the sake of changing something.,

They been been using these balls for 2 years now.

Somebody suddenly just noticed and now they are trying to make a big deal out of it.

Emily Fraser said: "IT"S HERE TO STAY. WE'RE NOT CHANGING ANYTHING".

The message is clear whether you like it or not.
Didnt Emily say they made the color change to "freshen up" pool and draw new fans in? If so I doubt that a large percentage of the new fans will be lifers like the people complaining about the change, if it starts affecting Matchrooms bottom line they will certainly make a change regardless of what Emily says. For what its worth I have never played with a purple 5 ball but I have seen many streams with the purple 5, I still go to the purple ball after the red 3 is pocketed, its difficult to get used to looking for an orange 4.

Since introducing the Ariamith Black set 2 years ago they've added more tournaments and bigger prize money this year.

She also hinted in the same interview that they'll be even more tournaments next year.

To think there'd be people that wouldn't watch a Matchroom tournament because they didn't like the colour of one of the balls is just insane.

My hopes are for a MR semi-pro feeder system with points.
Gives the Semi-pro players and the Jr. players a steppingstone.
It's difficult as a parent to allow, or even WANT their children in a bar/pool room late night.
It's not right period, for a 14yr old kid to be around liquored up adults on a weekend.
Even when their play area is roped off, it's still Wrong.
Some of the kids aren't even as tall as their cue sticks.

There is zero reason to play such slow pool. Just as there was no reason to change the color of the balls. 😕
I only watched the stream on YouTube.and alot of it, was incredibly slow. The reason why 9ball was invented. was to create a form of pool that was quicker. So guys could gamble quicker. seems to be the opposite today!!
It's amazing, this debate between, the current generation of pool and the more exciting form of 9 ball from late 90s, 2000s.
One of the things, that's different is the personalitys now. Everything is taken way more seriously now. Is it, in the spirt of game. I'm not sure.
These ball colors, I don't understand why you would make the 5 the same color, as what the 4 used to be. And in most sets, it still is the old colors.
I have the same problem with the dynasphere platinum set. The 6 and 7. Coming from a standerd set of balls. I have to check I'm shooting the 6 not the 7!!!

Would it not then be safe to assume it is also insane for people to start watching pool because of a ball color change? I believe that was one of the reasons Emily mentioned for the color change in the first place. Why do you suppose Aramith made "TV" sets in the first place? As I recall that change was to make the balls easier to identify on tv, I would think the whole matter was brought to attention by pool watching fans just like those "insane" fans that don't like the purple 5.

Evolution of Pool & Billiard Ball Colors

IAOI, Compelling an convincing. Watch some recent pool and there's still something funny.

IMO the balls need discernible and distinguishing markings besides color contrast. Just look at the symbols in the smiley selection in the forum editor. Marks go a long way.

And the black suks.

ON the grey cloth, to use Emily's words, I think they "pop".

Evolution of Pool & Billiard Ball Colors

Interesting but flawed. With the lighting being used on telecasts today, there are no better ball colors then the traditional ones. They are easy on our eyes and just as easy to distinguish from each other. As I have said multiple times before, having a TV director who knows enough about pool to have his cameramen close in (zoom in) on the balls from time to time is all that's necessary to afford the viewers a good viewing experience. Why is that so hard to learn? Is it because they don't know and don't want to take the time to learn?

All was good until some "smart" people came along who were going to fix things for us. And they certainly did fix things, except none of it was for the better. It's kind of like when kids learn how to do things a certain way and then when they get older to tell them you don't do it that way any more because we say so. That's kind of confusing don't you think?
