US Open Predictions

I predict that this will be BB's last US Open and that Accu-stats will take over as the promoter.

I also predict that this year's Open will be a huge success for all involved and that Barry will go out on top.

Barry(out of my cold dead hands)Behrman?

Coming out party.

1)Jayson Shaw
2)Mike Dechaine

Going away party.

1)Oliver Ortmann
2)Ernesto Dominguez

Sometimes Ernesto goes on a hot streak , maybe a top 15 realistically. He finished 9th last year.

They are playing in the American 14.1 Tournament that is being held in Midlothian, VA starting on October 22nd.

They will be rested and ready

Wedge

Is that being streamed?

Would love to see how they compare against some veterans of the game.

I am pretty certain it is. When the date arrives go to Diamond Billiards Midlothian VA and you should find the free stream.

Hope this helps

Few dozen can win this . Unlikely Shane or Big Ko

Many folks will say Big Ko or Shane but I doubt it . Shane will be favorite cos he is 3peat going for 4peat, cos of homeground and he knows equipment , tables best. Ko will be favorite cos unprecedentedly snapped off 3 big ones -W10B, W9B, WCOP within 1 year
But this ain't tennis where every Grand Slam you see same old faces - Joker, Fed, Nadal or Murray. Far from it despite what Fargo, WPA rankings or bookmakers say.
There are few dozen top players who can win this especially considering this is probably toughest US Open field ever
Big Ko and Shane will be in last 8 but everyone will want their scalp so they will have it much harder than everyone else. This may be contrarian but IMHO these guys below (not in order)will have better chance of winning it over both of them :D Pinoys and Euros did very poorly in recent W9B probably first time so few of them made last 8 so I would expect them to surge and prove something

Orcullo (slump in form recently but hitting form in lead up and he is hungry to win it)
Chang Jung Lin ( he has been quiet for long time so watch out)
Chang Yu Lung (recently won WCOP with Big Ko. One of best shotmakers in business - he will take risky shots and will make it more than other players .His brilliant long jump over few balls to pot 1 to go hill in final is probably shot of tournament)
Lil Ko (made semis in W9B and W10B this year. Drilled by Shane in W9B semi so this kid will be back stronger looking for his first major win. Always a favorite in any tourney and future World Champion)
Darren (won richest $100K C8B early this year but slumped recently in W9B and WCOP)
Niels (knocked out 1st round W9B and early stage WCOP so last year's W9B champ has something to prove
Thorsten- he is like Phil Collins of pool. Not getting any respect and Ignored by MC selectors for few years despite being W9B champ couple of years ago
Mike Dechaine- homeground advantage, master racked and importantly he wants to prove without doubt that he deserves MC team
Lee Van- was in final here once so he knows how to get there. Like most Pinoys he can play in any country , any equipment and even with Barry talking and singing
Biado - easily one of top players and a favorite in any tourney , he has yet to win a major so this may be his time
Jayson Show - what can I say. Probably one of best players yet to win a major (he is WE8 champion but that is different ball game) Some terrific performances earlier this year notables roasting Mika in less than 30 mins
Morra- More more. This is like home ground to him. Was in All Japan final this year but yet to win a major . I hear bells ringing for him
Alex- no one should write him off. He can win anything
Nick van den berg- yet to win a major and I see him lurking in the shadows
Jeff Ignacio- one of best upcoming players in last few years. Usually finish deep in majors, was in final of a major so he can get there .

Beside above , there are dozen or so who can win this
:D

The Taiwan contingent gets racks this week so they will be prepared. JohnyD can try and find some other kid to yell out about being on his yard. The open is full. I have sent rack templates all around the world on my dime and the feedback mirrors what joe tucker said 2 years ago "they do exactly what they are supposed to do".

Is it rack your own again?

If it is, SVB will win it again. If not, there are several guys who can win (SVB still being one of them).

If it's the same Diamond Billiards in VA, they have a constant camera on every day.
Its always on the Roku U-Stream channel.

ORCULLO IN A SLUMP?

In the past six months, he has won the Super Billiards 10-ball, the US Open 8-ball and the Texas Tornado 10-ball. He tied for 5th at the World 9-ball Championships.

An impressive slump to be sure.

Great selection, I agree with most, except maybe Sh"a"w, Morra, and Nick is a little behind. :)

He probably means according to Dennis' resume, ppl were expecting better finishes from him this year, and I'd agree, he hasn't won enough this year :D
Based on his game, he can win more

I pick Darren Appleton to win. He is due and always plays well at the open.

my dark horse is Mika Immonen

Toastie

Nice to see that at least one person hasn't forgotten Mr. Hohmann...my pick.

Justin Bergman for at least Semi Finals.

Whoaa, that's a bold and big prediction lol from the bunch of pinoy and taiwanese monsters checking in.

Justin gonna have to go through at least 4 taiwanese monster ( 2 world champs ) 3 pinoy beast , couple europeans ex'world champs and Mike Shaw n Shane from US.

Long shot i wld say !

No doubt he's great player in the US but he's always fallen short of the finishing line when it comes to the big stage despite all the hype about him.

Never won a world championship nor Us open , the two most coveted title in pool history.
Got bbq by Shane recently, cracking under pressure to Shane last year open and to D.Appleton in a big prize money competition "challenge of champions " !!
In fact , he hasnt even make a wpc final appearance yet !

Seems to have a mental block of going thru the final hurdle !

I can't believe no one has picked him yet

It's so obvious

The toughest field ever

Earl will end all discussion as to the greatest 9 ball player ever - if it's not rack your own!

And if he doesn't play Ralf or Mike Wong early

Yeah, not a vintage year by Dennis standards, but certainly not a slump.

It will have a lot to do with the un tested in at least a top regional event template and if they let them patern rack...and then it's 9-luck-ball. I'm sure they will have no more than 2 refs/TD's, but we can pay $1000.00 a pop for 15 past champs. Johnnyt

They don't put 1000
In the prize money they just let them play free.

Big Ko will dethrone Shane in the finals. Fanboy tears everywhere.

There's also the $11k added event at Gotham City Billiards the weekend of 10/17. Lots of big names playing in that one, 16 freshly re-clothed Diamond Pro-Ams. There will also be a live stream, I believe by upstate Al.

Mike Wong plays much faster now if you checked his recent video in that send him to US open thread :grin-square:
