US Open-The Other Way Around

How many of those with the 9B on the spot are you able to control the cue ball and get position on the 2B to get out? No soft break. If it is greater than 50% perhaps you should pay your entry to the WNT events and show the best in the world how it's done. With the 1B on the spot, the wing ball is wired and if the break is hit properly, the 1B goes 2 rails for shape in one of the head rail corners (depends which side you break from). Which is more conducive to packages? 9B on the spot, break box and cut break or 1B on the spot, no break box?
Actually, that's impossible. You never know where the 2b is gonna be in the rack. Ideal would be to figure out a break that consistently pockets a ball other than the 1 and control the one and the cb.

I'm working on it, I'm working on it.

That's exactly my point and the reason why there aren't packages being run in WNT events. Pocket size has nothing to do with it.

Probably.
These days I rack everything on the spot - 8,9,10. I'd probably rack 15 ball rotation and one pocket middle ball on the spot if anybody wanted to play it. I'm not concerned with the outcomes so much as getting a good spread. I do know that with the rack that far up, even the second row is good for the side.

You'll see more lucky and taller stacks with the latter but there's this refinement of control going on with the former and a conservative dead out or nuthin' mindset so I don't think it's entirely a function of the break/rack rules.

Agree to disagree. The only way we'd know is if Matchroom had an event without the break rules.

All tables at the US Open have 4" corners and 4.5" sides. With new cloth, this is the perfect size for the best in the world. I saw plenty of running cue balls and strokes being let out. Perhaps they were playing safe due to factors other than pocket size. I do not think top players consider pocket size when they are running out.
Agree. That 1/8 or 1/4” difference isn’t gonna make them hesitate on a shot. They’re professionals for a reason and they practice on tables like that or with smaller pockets. The OP is acting like these current players never played with these tight pockets.

Observation does not bear this out. The tightening of the pockets has already impacted which shots the top players will and won't shoot.

I have a Diamond with fairly tight pockets. My brother has an Olhausen with pockets 1/4 inch wider. His pockets spit balls at a higher rate than mine. It has something to do with the slope of the pocket facing.

More so the angle of the pocket opening. Olhausen tables are notorious for too wide an angle and will rattle almost every shot hit down the rail with any pace.
