USA, all the way?

Perhaps you missed the Hard Times Tournament, results?

Check it out it was over yesterday.

I do apologize but the Hard Times Tournament results are SKEWED. You see statistically SVB and Dennis both lost ONCE, thus, must play a tie breaker to set the record book straight.

Yes, I am! Compare the amount of time you spend here, responding and posting, to mine. I hit this place up on 5-minute breaks at work, but it looks like you LIVE here. For example, take a look at your own posting stats. You've only been here a little over a year (m-a-y-b-e going on 2), and you're very close to me in post count -- and that's WITH a ban on your side!

So, you were saying?

Two bans, actually.

You've been here double the time and have 25% more posts. But let's do a word count shall we, to see who really spends more time on here.

I'm sure there are several thousand fascinatingly long posts on all manner of nerdery to wade through first, however. The last one - some sort of pointless anecdote about playing bass guitar, I believe - was particularly riveting.

Ah, I see where you're going with this -- I'm not going to play your troll "carrot" games. You can try to ding me because I'm a fast typist all you want -- ain't going to get you anywhere. And interestingly, you seem to have found that "pointless anecdote" "particularly riveting" because you even responded to it. Nice try, though.

I really couldn't care less what you think of what I write. What I do care about -- and why I respond to you -- is to correct these "facts" you spout out of that evaporated air you live in.

And you know something, Tim? I was giving you the benefit of the doubt in the face of what appears to be widely known about you -- that you're just a troll. I thought you actually have (or had) something to contribute. But now I realize that was just wasted effort and misplaced belief.

ESPECIALLY the Muslems, where due to your liberal freedom of speech they can chant all kinds of anti government rants all day long with impunity. Hell, they even have their own districts where your chicken sh!t police won't even dare to venture. Sure pal, everybody loves Great Britain, except for the food LOL.

Freedom of speech has been pretty "liberal" in the US since 1791, when it was included in the First Amendment to the Constitution, AKA The Bill of Rights. Though I think "liberal" is the wrong term for it. Either you have freedom of speech or you don't - not conservative, not liberal, just the right thing to do if you want to have a democracy.

And the food's good. Try a good gastropub or maybe even The Fat Duck, which is considered one of the three best restaurants in the world.

And it's Muslim, not Muslem. And they don't chant anti-government rants all day, even on Edgware Road, London's "Little Arabia." I've even had some good meals there.

Great thread

Haha. That's another thing in favor of the Brits. You have a sense of humor.

After reading this thread I have come to a few conclusions. The declaration of independence was signed in 1776 but the battle never ended :p. The only POOL related point of real discussion is whether POOL needs to learn from snooker. If you are talking organized professional tours there is no doubt that snooker is doing something right as compared to pool. As far as whether pool players should mimic snooker players technique? In my opinion NO. Snooker and Pool are two different games involving different skills and equipment. The stroke in pool is different for a reason, the balls are bigger and heavier. The best living pool player in history is Efren and he doesn't stand or stroke like a snooker player, he plays like a pool player.

What??????

And here I believed Al Gore when he said he invented the internet.

Tim:

That just goes to show little you know about this topic. That is Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of hyperlinking. That is only one aspect of the Internet. That is not "the" Internet. There are many technologies that make the Internet, and hyperlinking is only one small aspect (hint: there's much more to the Internet than your little myopic world of clicking on buttons and links in a web browser). While Tim is considered a "father" of the Internet as we know it, he is not "the" father. In fact, there are folks who contributed more foundational technologies to the Internet than Tim Berners-Lee. Why don't you look up the names Bob Kahn, or Bob Metcalf, or Vint Cerf? You think just because one Brit -- just one in amongst a decidedly American team -- came up with "a" technology for the Internet, that he therefore "invented" the entire Internet, and hence therefore, because he's a Brit, the Internet as a whole was invented "in the UK"? How narrow-minded can you be?

I don't think you want to go toe-to-toe with me on this one. Trust me on that. However, if you do want to, let it fly -- your turn. Just know what you're getting into -- I've been working on Internet backbones since the late 1980s, and it's my business to know all the technologies.

I've bitten my tongue long enough on this one. There's blood in my mouth.

The answer to your question is, NO. The "world" of pool doesn't need the USA. However, the USA doesn't need the "world" of pool, either.

Why?

We have DCC, the U.S. Open, SBE, Hard Times, etc. We have the APA, TAP, BCA, VNEA, Independent Leagues. We have guys and gals that will play, gamble, sweat and talk about pool until the sun comes up and then goes down again. We have 90% of the best custom cue and case makers in the world (Barton included. I don't care where he lives and works, he's American and maybe the best case maker ever).

We have Pat Fleming, Justin, Fast Lenny and Big Truck. We have Hustlin apparel. We have Dragon Promotions (regardless of how you feel about Charlie) promoting just as many events here as they do abroad.

We have Johnny Archer, SVB, Corey Deuel, Hillbilly, Earl, Hatch, Dechaine and the list goes on.

We have AZ Billiards. I think the "AZ" stands for Arizona, which is who the website was started for, pool players in Arizona and just exploded into what it has become. We have Phil Capelle, Dave Sapolis, Scott Lee, Dominic Esposito, Tom Simpson, Bob Henning, Jerry Briesath. Not to mention Billiards Digest, Pool and Billiard Magazine and Inside Pool.

We have akaTrigger's (Melinda) blog.

Do you know what else we have? Allison Fisher, Darren Appleton, Efren Reyes, Orcullo, Klatt, Morra, Souquet, Immonen, Ga Young Kim, Gerda, Xiaoting, Ouschan and every other international player coming here to live, work and play pool in the USA. They all come here chasing tournaments and play. So, we obviously have a lot more to offer than you think.

Tell me, who flocks to the UK for the same?

Does the "world" of pool need us? Maybe not. Do we need the "world" of pool? Absolutely not!

I gave the exact sentiments back in post 99 in just 3 short sentences. For some reason some folks didn't "get" that I was in fact talking about pool. I could care less how many muslims come to UK each year to populate the next generation of ballot boxes. Was it the "shitty little island" comment that muddled the message?:rotflmao:

Oh.

We have plenty of overseas snooker players come here, but American pool is too small a game here to draw many in, although GB9 goes from strength to strength, and is likely to attract more European players in future.

It's really very difficult to express how much of a minority game American pool is here in the UK.

We love snooker here in America. That's why 9 out of ten of our milliions of pool players don't even know the basic rules. Oh have you heard? We love soccer too. And tea. So this entire troll thread is pretty much as irrelevant as the aforementioned items.

I was merely responding to your point about no one rushing to the UK to play American pool.

If you're suggesting football and tea are "irrelevant", you live in a very enclosed world indeed. Football is the most popular sport on the planet by a country mile, and the most consumed beverage in the world is tea, by a city and country mile.

The purpose of this thread is to broaden horizons. Sadly, there are some people that cannot be reached.

Maybe I am wrong but your intentions did not appear to be designed to broaden minds, it came off more like disrespect and argumentative. You really seemed like you wanted to pick a fight just like 90 % of your other threads.

Your post and replies came of more like this : US pool sucks, you all cant play right, we brits do things smarter and better than the USA therefore you should do it like us.

I have a feeling that you think Brits are superior to Americans in every way. I look at it more on a individual level. Everyone has something to offer. I feel as if I can learn something from anyone and everyone. I even feel like I could learn something from you. But your attitude prevents me from even trying to bother.

The tone of your posts has made me react in a way that makes me wish I didn't even bother.
