Users wishing to be removed from forums

Since Fred made his request to be removed, asking to be deleted now seems like the cool thing to do if a thread starts to turn ugly for a user.

So, in other words, someone wants to make a statement that the forums are not good enough for them to have their name attached, but they are good enough for me to take time from the day to go in manually remove them so that they can make their grand statement.

From now on if a user doesn't want to be associated with the forums by their user name, I suggest they simply go to the top of the page and click on "log out". I periodically purge the user list and if a user doesn't log on for a period of time, then their account will be removed when I do the purge.

Thank you for your time.

Who else asked? Looks like Bruce is out of here.

Perhaps you can have a script automatically send each potential new user an insulting email and only allow them to sign up a new account if they can reply with a witty rejoinder? That way we can weed out the people with egg-shell thin egos right at the start.

Alternately how about just putting this right above the new user sign-up form:

GET OVER YOURSELF

Sounds like good info for the FAQ. Tell them to change their title to something relfecting that they've left and then stop logging in. Bye.

You shouldn't have to take the time to help them make their grand statements. You merely provide the sketchpad, it's up to them to create art, scribble, or if they wish, tear out the pages.

I always find it a bit funny when people make a grand exit. I'm not sure what the point is. Some one didn't agree with you, it turned into a flame war, and now, to have the last say in it all ... "I shall now leave - never to return!"

Hmm. Maybe I do know what the point is after all. I think I just said it. It's a way of having the last word.

Screw all of you. I'm out of here.

Hey...don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out!

Phew...I think I got that out when he was still looking. I'm sure he'll be pissed that he didn't get the last word in now. He'll be back....... :D

I was wondering why the number of threads dropped from 14,785 to 10,700.

Well I think (oh no) that the post made prior to someones departure should remain on the board. I also think that about the Ask the Pro's forums like Johnny Archer, Lisa Marr, and Melissa Little...they should have been closed for new posts but still the post should have remained as their was some decent info in all of those forums. Just as Fred had some good posts and information..it is a shame that whne a person/ forum leaves all the posts go too.

I enjoyed reading many of Fred's posts. He was articulate and seemed very knowledgeable. His request for deletion from this forum was a poor move. Oh well, I guess none of us are perfect.

Personally, I really liked and respected Fred and his posts. I kinda feel insulted that he elected to leave and grandstand his exit. It's like he's divorcing all of us and taking the family pet with! UGH!

Whatever problem Fred with another on this forum should not reflect on the others associated with AZB. Is he punishing EVERYONE due to a disagreement he had with another? I just don't get it.

THEN it falls in Mike's lap to have to stop what he is doing and baby sit the forums. Put yourself in Mike's shoes and look at all he has to deal with and the many many different personalities that are associated with these forums? Isn't it a shame that it has come to this?

One of the nicest parts about this forum is the friendships that have been established. I have many people that I have met on this forum that I correspond with on a everyday basis.

I look forward to my morning cup of coffee and AZB. I never know what's going to happen next.. Is Drivermaker going to step in dog doodoo today? Has Fast Larry come back as the wonder dog? Did Landshark come up with a baby name non pool related? Is Mr. Wilson really Mrs. Wilson? Is KWilson really BJT? Is BJT an alien? Is AuntyDan really UncleDan? What scoop does JAM have for the day? Who's in the hot seat? I'm here to make friends, promote my business and learn from all. :D

I am 1000% on Mikes side on this one. Let's just all try and be nice, respect others opinions and if you don't like what is being said, use the IGNORE button or switch channels. It's that easy! :D ;)

I occasionally go in and purge the users for anyone who hasn't logged in to the site in a year. If a member just wants to lurk for a year, I suspect they won't be bother by losing their account.

the point is, that they're pontificating posters who want to have the last word.

except that it backfires because WE GET THE LAST WORD :):)

Well said
I'd like to buy a vowel.

They wouldn't need to leave the board to try and get the last word in if they just learned how to argue/debate, and didn't get all bent when someone tried to make it personal.
To me, someone leaving the board because they can't cope is the ultimate sign of defeat. They obviously didn't have the skills to defend their position or themselves.

Much better to argue your point either effectively, which then completely disarms all opposition. If it happens that you have a few that do not yield. STOMP ON THEM!

Words are one of the most powerful tools that we wield. ESPECIALLY in a forum type setting. (it is really all we have) Better learn how to use them if you want to survive.

A whole year? Well, hells bells Mike in this age of instant gratification a year is like a life sentence. Lower it to 30 days. No posts in 30 days drop them and make them sign up all over again.

I thought Fred might be going through a crisis or was under a lot of stress lately because his posts turned way out of character for him. And being a college grad I thought he would have had a thicker skin and would have been able to deflect the barbs a lot easier. Otherwise how the hell did he get through school? if you can't take the heat get out of the kitchen is an old saying.

One nice thing about geting old is that I don't remember what I posted yesterday let alone worry about what someone posted a week or more ago. And in general the posts here are just nonsense anyway posted by people with no real value to society. It is just a way of passing the time.

I enjoy your home page a lot better than your forums anyway.
