i've used it for several years
but starting about a month ago,
i've had all kinds of problems
to date, they owe me about $100 in refunds
it's like pulling teeth getting them

anyways, here's the glitch
after i enter all the info into ship label,
then go to the pay & print process,
it locks up and just shows a box on my screen that says 'processing'
but it never finishes the process and starts the printer
at that point, my paypal account has already been charged the amount,
and paypal's payment email has already arrived to me
if i refresh & try it again, i get charged again

with all the changes they have made to thier site recently,
i thought the glitch was on thier end
yesterday i went down the street to my mom's to try it on her computer and it worked just fine

here's what i have done so far, and it's still not working
note> my printer works fine for everything else but USPS
UNINSTALLED ADOBE
REINSTALLED ADOBE, THE LATEST VERSION
RESTORED COMPUTER BACK IN TIME TO 2 MONTHS AGO
UNINSTALLED FIREFOX
REINSTALLED FIREFOX

i'm far from being a computer geek, so any help you can offer,
please , talk to me, was going to say a 5yr old,
but nowadays a 5yr old probably knows what to do
so talk to me like a 56yr old, that still has 8tracks, cassette tapes & VHS:grin:

i have no idea what's changed on my computer recently to cause this?
i have no idea just exactly what program USPS's system requires from me to make it work? i thought it was adobe ???

it's like thier system isnt RECOGNIZING my adobe
is that possible?

side note> it used to be that when you clicked on pay & print,
the label printed, then it went to a window asking if label printed correctly
if you click yes, it was at that point you got charged
NOW, it charges you BEFORE

I actually work in IT and that is definitely a unique problem. Have you checked their website for a FAQs page? It could be a slightly common issue. Also have you tried to use a different browser than firefox? Other than that I would try contacting their customer service to see what they say.

No rush on my order, if you ship next week I am not sweating it. I am raffling that cue in November

customer service? are you kidding?
your cue is on the way, I HOPE

I use it every day, and it has gone smoothly... but I called them about something unrelated (question about editing my shipping lists) and chose the tech support option, I got a recording to the effect of "We are aware that some users are experiencing certain issues with the website. We're aware of these issues and are working to correct them as soon as possible". ...it's so vague that I have no idea if it's related to your issue or not.

What adobe product are you referring to? Adobe acrobat (PDFs)? Because it doesn't use it to my knowledge, nor Adobe Flash. Which page gives you grief? There are two pages I'm thinking of... one where you enter all the shipping info. Then I think you click ship at the bottom right. Then the next page has a generic label mockup image, and you commit by pressing pay and print. After that it pops up the print box. Which of those two pages is locking up? Also, you never see that print box, it just starts up? Also when you say it starts the printer... does the label actually print ok?

My first guess is a problem with Java, which I believe it uses. Try reinstalling. Go to tools, add-ons. There's a list of add-ons including some kind of Java (maybe more than one). At the top in small blue text is a link "check to see if your plugins are up to date". After clicking it, you'll be taken to a web page where it shows if your java is up to date. If it's not, click the button to the right and it will take you to the java download page to get the new version. Download and install it, then close out of firefox and open it up again. Nothing will look any different but hopefully when you go to print labels it just works correctly.

Most likely, you can download and install the newest java from this page:
http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp

Next guess: some add-on or plugin interferes with your normal print process. This would also be under tools --> addons. There are two categories on the left... plugins and extensions. A lot of these are a normal part of firefox. But if any aren't, if there are some you manually downloaded or added... they might be causing the problem. Toolbars especially are real troublemakers and should be avoided.

One more idea: switch browsers (either just for this task, or in general). I love firefox and use it at home, but at work I've been sticking with chrome, and it handles the click and ship page fine. Here's the download page: https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/

If that works, we narrowed the issue down to firefox. If it doesn't, I have one last thought.

Normally it suggests your default home printer when you click that print button. You then have to actually click OK to start printing. But when I login to my work fedex account... we bought a special Zebra label printer just for making peel-off fedex labels. Clicking "pay and ship" just immediately prints the label, no print popup asking me to click OK. So maybe fedex thinks you have some printer like that.

You might be able to get it to offer a popup anyway, one which offers to save the print job as a PDF instead. Try going start -> settings -> printers (or start --> devices and printers, whichever you have) and then right clicking any PDF printer you see listed there. From the right click menu, choose "set as default". Now when you go to print your label... does a box pop up asking you if you want to print to PDF, or where you want to save it?

If so, you at least have a workaround. Save the PDF somewhere, open it (if it doesn't open automatically) and then print the label from adobe acrobat.

It's also possible you have popups blocked????

As suggested I would try another browser first. Chrome, or as a last resort IE.

java is all good
You have the recommended Java installed (Version 7 Update 5).

Firefox sometimes does too good a job of blocking popups that you actually want to see... You may need to set up the click and ship domain as a trusted site. Here is a walkthrough that may help.

http://www.firefoxfacts.com/2010/07/14/how-to-allow-pop-ups-in-firefox/

*edit* Also, you don't need to include the "www." part of whatever the website is when adding the exclusion. If this doesn't work, as was suggested already, I would also start looking at a default printer setting within the click and ship software, it may be looking for a printer that is no longer there or even set up on a wrong port. This would be even more likely if you made any changes to your printers lately.

I looked a little bit and it looks like USPS Click and Ship may be an application that is installed on you computer. To determine this, go to Control Panel --> Add / Remove Programs and see if there is an entry in the list for Click and Ship (I'm not sure what the actual name will be so you'll have to look for the list).

If you find an entry for it there, remove it, and then download and reinstall again. That may clear it up.

Oh my god I'm an airhead

apologies bhq. my brain was locked on fedex's shipping page. That's the page I was thinking of when I typed all that.

I've used USPS's click'n'ship many times, but lately it's 95% fedex. So I don't have as much to draw on. If all browsers have the same issue, I'd try clearing the cache in all three, and trying a different printer (even if there isn't one, you can choose PDF).

I had it lock up before, and had them credit me. So my next one was covered, lol.

from the support team

Dear Brent,

Thank you for contacting the USPS Internet Customer Care Center in regards to the extra charge on your account. I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you, and I am more than happy to assist you today.

I also want to apologize that this is happening a second time to you. This is not the experience we want our customers to have while using an USPS service. While I am happy to assist you with requesting refunds for labels you were unable to generate or use, I can only issue refunds for labels that are showing in your shipping history.

Upon review of your Shipping History, I was unable to locate a charge that corresponds with the charge in question on your billing statement. While I am unable to process a refund for a transaction that does not appear in your Shipping History, I can escalate this to our Program Management Office for review. Please respond to this email, and attach a copy of your billing statement where the charge appears. In your response please include the information detailed below.

6. What date did this transaction occur? CAN YOU READ THE EMAILS I SENT LISTING IN DETAIL, THE DATES & AMOUNTS?
