Uv

cough, cough, cough!!

Uh huh
2400 for machine
200 shipping
300 duty and brokerage :(
Finish is a couple hundie
Isolater and gel couple hund
I'm sure there will be 300 more for shipping and brokerage on that too
Gets real serious quickky

Once you get the knack of it, the $4,000 uv cost will seem like your best purchase ever. The quart mix of insulator will probably do 100+ cues if you somehow can make it last and can mix tiny quantities. It doesn't take much.

I totally agree.
Just to finish shafts super fast will be great,
Nevermind quick turnaround on re finish jobs

I got my uv finish from unique,
Got the video on their uv curing booth as well.
It's a beauty!
Not worth full price to this cowboy but what a nice booth!!!!
I tested the clear on an ebony jumper, using the bonding agent from cure uv.
The finish stuck to it nicely and cured hard,
It's a little thick to spray so I brushed it on in very small coats(3)
I have a new problem now.
My logo decal can be felt through the clear now as the uv is much thinner :(
I'm going to see if a couple more coats hides it,
I may need a new logo solution

First finished cue with uv!

Less than .005
You can still feel the edge of my logo :(
It's so nice to start and finish the same night!
I may need to change my polishing system though.
Uv isn't quite as shiny as epoxy.
I may need to polish with an angle grinder!

The polishing method and compounds are critical and you really should polish with the grain. Cues polished on a lathe look like they were polished on a lathe.
To level the logo edges, sand the first coat down and re-coat, 2 minutes.
I was about to ship a finished cue out yesterday morning (Steel joint) at 10:45 when I noticed a rub through. I sanded the finish down with 320 grit, smoothed with a quick 400 grit then taped the joint, re-coated, wet sanded, rubbed out and buffed, packed, ate lunch, drove to the post office and was home at 12:15. Sure beats 4 or more days.

Finally found Mek here!
20$ a quart?
Now I can cut my finish and spray, brushing was a pain in the pooper :)
Got my buffer from caswell and it arrived broken :(
Uv switchover has been interesting

Can't you just go to the local nail salon and buy Acetone instead ? :grin-square:

What's with you and nail salons :D
I was under the impression that Mek was the only thing that would work????
I probably have acetone at home already :(

Finger nail polish remover is not pure acetone - it seems to have an oily component in it as well - perhaps to soothe the skin.
I was able to buy a quart can of acetone at Home Depot not long ago.
FYI

Darcy,
It's not the salon, it's the clientele! :)
Well, I don't think he gets his nails done.

I get mine at my local automotive paint store.
I'm in Nazifornia and everything is watered down now unless the seller has the right permits.
I don't go to Home Depot to buy thinners and acetone anymore.

Mek

Be very careful with MEK Darcy. I work in the aluminum and glass industry. I draw the line here. I am probably naïve but I stop at denatured alcohol. In my business denatured is bad, xylene is worse and MEK is nasty.....Kyle

I plan on wearing my respirator and gloves,
Using a syringe to get the Mek out of its small hole and measure.
I think it's a 1:10 ratio to clear so j will be dealing in ml at a time.
Thanks for the warning though Kyle :)

Dang...... I sure am glad I'm not progressing to clear coating just yet, ESPECIALLY UV. If the cost doesn't scare you then all the warnings from all the well experienced makers are enough to scare the crap out of me,lol.

Be safe Darcy !!!
