SBE - Valley Forge to Oaks Thoughts

What is everyones thoughts about the new Oaks location for the Super Billiards Expo after 18 years at the Valley Forge location?

Also if you have never been to the new location and have questions about it feel free to post. I have been there 2x in the past so I will be glad to help you all out.

I am looking forward to the new place. I have been to the old place for quite a few years cleaning tables with David Hodges (Quick Clean). Walking up and down them steps can work on you after a while. I think it will be better to have everything on one level. I do like staying in the same building as the tournament though but at the DCC we drove about 15 miles twice a day to clean the tables there. Not sure how far the room will be away from the new place. Stop by the booth and say hi. I am always looking to meet people from here.

What is the DCC? And I will definitely make a stop at your both. I will be up there for 4 days competing in the Artistic Pool event.

The DCC is the Derby City Classic. Im excited for the change. It seems this is a newer building, and i like the idea of everything on one floor. As long as they have the "pitt" set up somewhere i will be happy. I know its a bit of a hassle that there is no hotel connected. But if I heard right they are in the works to build one on within the next year. One thing im not going to miss about the old venue is the deep fryers they had running almost 24/7 downstairs. It smelled terrible and made it so sticky to be downstairs. After you left you felt like youre whole body was covered in grease.

Whats your prediction on the parking situation, especially on Friday night, and the weekend? The new location doesn't have an onsite hotel, nor appear to have a restaurant. At Valley Forge, to avoid the parking hunt on Friday and Saturday it was a no brainer, just eat in the hotel restaurant and bar (Chumleys).

it Should be interesting to see how they will be setting everything up. The building is huge and when inside you feel like you’re in a giant warehouse, you can see from one end to the other. Although it is not as nice as the VFCC it is a whole lot bigger and the parking set up is also more convenient. There are no attached hotels but there are many that surround the area. Most are within 1 mile of the venue. There are also a few restaurants right in the area (not connected though)

Do you have any suggestions about hotels? The prices I see are about $140/night except for one place that has D- reviews.

O.K., call me ignorant, but what does ACA, and ICA stand for? Is there a Pro
tourney, and where will they play? Are the practice tables now the pit?

Thanks.
ACA = American Cuemakers Association
ICA = International Cuemakers Association
Pro arena entrance is at the upper-left of the map
It looks like the entire right side of the map will be open all night.

Bob, the first year I went, my buddy and I stayed at the Hampton Inn King of
Prussia. It's on the other side of the Mall, but we also got a 10% discount with
a AAA card. The rooms are really nice and clean. Flat screen TV's. The worst part
about it was the fact that when your coming back to the hotel, if you come from
the Mall side, which was the SBE side, there was no turn to get in. You had to
pass the Hotel up, and do a U-Turn about 1/4 mile past the Hotel. Well, you had
to turn left into a residential street, and turn around to come back to take a right
hand turn into the driveway. That was the only way to get in. The street is a big
4 lane street with a devider and no break to make the turn into the driveway.
Not a big price to pay when your under a C-note a night after taxes in a nice hotel.
I see that it is about 10 miles away from the new location, but if the drive and the
entrance don't bug you, it's a great price for a very nice hotel. From what I
remember, we also got a free breakfast every morning. Not a continental breakfast
either. It was pretty loaded. Eggs, bagels, toast, sausage, bacon, muffins. Really nice
getup. If I go, I'll probably end up there again.

Second from the bottom hotel on the SBE list. $ 89 a night.

I see now, thanks Bob.

I know what you mean about the roads. The first time I was at the SBE it seemed that there were three separate road systems that didn't connect with each other -- it was nearly impossible to get back to my hotel without a map. Maybe some trick the Colonists played on the British to confuse their troop movements.

I tried going on-line but the cheapest I could find for the Hampton Inn was $127 for a pre-paid room or $133 for one with free cancellation. Maybe I need to call them for the SBE rate.

I am excited about this change.

The venue is bigger so there's potential for more growth, more new events.

It's all on one floor, thus you don't have to deal with walking up and down those steps. All the vendors are now on the same floor which makes it easier to navigate for the consumers.

There will be a new hotel ready by next year. But Valley Forge is only a few miles away. Not that bad.

Yeah, we actually walked in a few years back on thursday afternoon when
we arrived, and got the $ 89 rate. About $ 80 after using the AAA card.
Per the lower link (second from the bottom hotel), they post the $ 89 rate.
It must be an SBE special if you mention it over the phone. Just a guess though.

The Valley Forge CC is actually very close to it so if there was a hotel you prefer its only a short drive down the road. Pretty simple directions. I usually stay at the new hotel, the Hyatt , and I really like it there so that may be my choice.

I'm going to miss the attached hotel. Renting a car is out because quite frankly this is a "man" trip for me. No wife, no kids so it is party time and driving is not a option. Hopefully people will take pity on me and shuttle me back and forth to the hotel (I'm staying at the Homewood suites).
