For those attending the BCA tournaments next week in the Riv., is it even worth it to walk down the strip past the Wynn which I've heard is pretty much the finest casino in all the land?

Depends on what you are looking for. I was talking with a friend that was in town a couple of days ago that had moved to Vegas a few years ago. He actually said he still considered Bellagio to be the best (it has always been my favorite). So if you are looking for the classiest casino there are various opinions. If you like gambling It’s always nice to get up and change casinos when the tables get cold. Farther south on the strip there are more nice options. Venetian, Paris, New York New York, Caesars, MGM, Luxor, Mandalay Bay, etc etc etc. If you are not farmiliar with them hitting all of them makes a nice but long all night crawl.

the strip

Its quite a long walk. but past the Wynn I concur w/ breakup- Venetian, Bellagio, Cesars and Mandalay Bay are definitely the Casinos to see. Depends on what you're into SHopping? Venetian and Ceasars. Partying? All of the casinos mentioned have awesome clubs. Off the strip the Hard Rock Casino and pool is a fun place.

My pick for the best greasy breakfast is the White Cross pharmacy just north of the Stratosphere. It has an old time lunch counter. It’s bordering on a rough neighborhood but I’ve never really been uncomfortable in the 9 AM to noon time zone.

Vegas

Over by the Hilton you can catch the tram that you can take down to the other end of the strip. You also need to go to the Cue Club, there should be action there all week.

Speaking of Vegas fun, this sounds like BS but it really happened.

A couple of years ago a friend and I were getting ready to head to the south strip from the Riv for the evening. When we met up he is real excited saying we gotta go across the street to Slots of Fun and play this new game “Deuces Wild Hold Um Fold Um” he said he was there earlier in the day and was just winning and winning. The max bet is $25 dollars and he won a few hundred pretty quick before he had to leave. We went over there walked up to the game sat down and same thing win win win. We both won 3 or 4 hundie walking around money for down on the south strip.

As we were sitting there my buddy told the dealer about our extraordinary luck at the game. The dealer said “I’ve been dealing this game since they set it up three days ago and I haven’t seen anyone lose yet”. Still taking everything with a grain of salt we colored up our winnings and headed out. The next night we are stoked we started out to get all moneyed up across the street. We walked in and there was a well worn blackjack table in place of the brand new Deuces Wild Hold Um Fold Um table. My buddy ask the dealer “what happened to the other game?”

“We had to pull that game” he said

We found the same game at other casinos but the rules were different and it was just a trap like 3 card poker, but for three days it looked like somebody made a mistake on the rules and a game was really paying out for once. In retrospect we have always said we should have sat there 24/7 until they pulled the game.

I like the RIO.... Great international buffett and a sea food buffett also. The Voo Doo lounge on the top of building is great, view, band etc. Inside the casino the rio girls and the free acts performing are also fun to watch while you gamble...Give it a try. You won't be sorry....Voted top all around casino the last 5 years......

Think I'll pass on any seafood buffet in vegas considering its about as far away from the ocean as you could get.

The Wynn is the only mega casino within walking distance of the Riv. The Wynn is beautiful and if this is your first trip to Vegas, definitely worth a look. Personally I like the Bellagio best, but it is not the easiest to get to from the Riv. Also, if you're looking to stay somewhere other than the Riv for the tourney, walking distance is plus. Otherwise, you're at the mercy of the cab lines which can sometimes take forever...

Slots o' Fun is has been closed. They are going to raze that whole side of the street for a couple blocks and build another mega-hotel.
