I have official word that Jack Cooney has been sighted in Vegas.

If anyone has any other news for one of the biggest events in pool, please post it here.

I can't wait to leave in 9 hours to get there.

Funny, I was just at the Riviera about two hours ago with some friends to practice. My one buddy who's been around the pool scene for a while, gets stopped by this older gentleman and they talk for a few minutes while we wait. As we're walking away, he says to me, "That man is in the one-pocket hall of fame, a true world-class player."

"who was it?"

"Jack Cooney."

I'd never heard of him. Yet apparently he's famous enough to merit his own thread. From what I was told, lives in Vegas and plays a lot of poker nowadays.

I hope they get him in the pit, but I do not think Barbra will let him play. I have watched him play some of the best one pocket I have ever seen. I have also watched him get small spots from great players in 9 ball and win. I have it from many champion one pocket players that he might be have been the best mover in the game. If he dose play, do not miss it. You might not get to see him play.

The photo is Jack Cooney, myself, Barbra, and Mark B.

I'm pretty sure Jack Cooney was one of those guys who didn't want anybody to hear about him. Did he look like a pool hustler or just an average Joe?

Last night for TAR match between Scot Frost and Daren There were side bettings. One bet was between Jack cooney`s backer and Imran Majid (pro player from England).A lady with gray hair pulled a white envelope from her bag and handed over to the backer of Cooney.Money was then placed on top of the table light.

In cue club after 10-11 hours of play Alex pegualayen beat Shane vanboening for nice amount of money. As you all know I do not pay attention to things like how much money and what was the score etc.

Sounds like Mark and Barbra, Mark is on the side with Scott.

He is on the left in the picture. You did not hear much about some of the big scores he took down. He did not look like a pool hustler and he is a nice guy to. He is a gentlemen at the table to. Ask John Schmidt, John played him a lot at Hard Times learning the game from him. I remember pulling up to Hard Times one night and John was outside and upset after playing Jack. Ask john to tell the rest of the story. I watched him play Toby from the Cue Club for around to weeks at Hard Times. They played a 8 head set that Jack won. I think Jack was getting 9-8. There are some Accustats tapes of him playing to.

he looked exactly like the picture above. Until my friend told me, I never in a million years would have guessed he was a pool legend. Even though he was walking around the giant pool room at the Riviera after midnight, he just looked like a tourist.

Of course, how many people do you look at and think "pool hustler!" right off the bat. Wanna-be hustlers are sometimes identifiable, but that seems to be about it.

I don't know if this is a joke, or whether you didn't realize how strong he is..

Jack Cooney has probably made more hustling pool as anyone alive in America today. I seriously think not even the top pros have is speed in one Pocket fully clocked.
