Vegas V.N.E.A. Wrapup

This was my first time going to a team event in Vegas, and I must admit, it was more fun and better organized than I expected.

There were more international teams than I expected, we only played 2 American teams. The other teams were from Canada (several), Spain, and Australia. Our team from the Illinois cornfields finished 25th out of 388 (much better than I expected for a first time team.)

I met a couple new AZ'ers, cwjackal (at the Schuler booth) and Michael Hoang at Omega. As usual, AZ'ers turn out to be great people in person.

I also got to play Samm Diep and gamble a little with 9ballrob, AKA my A.T.M. (Rob, sorry I let you leave Vegas with some money. Next time we match up I'll have to send you home C.O.D.)

The banquet was much more entertaining and a bigger spectacle than I imagined. The food was good and the entertainment was very good. I did feel sorry for the comedian, as he had a pretty tough crowd. I thought he was great though.

Hope to see you all next year. I had a blast.

Vegas is always a Great Time!!!!!

Whether it is BCA,ACS,APA, or VNEA, Vegas is always sooo much fun!!!!:)

Glad your first trip was a great experience.

Congrats. I went many times as a vendor and when I finally got to play on a team I really found out how fun it is.

Our team finished the BCA Open 9-12th out of 700 teams and it was tense with every ball. We had an amazing comeback on a great team from Spain where we were down 10-5 in a race to 13 and we win it 13-11.

Then the next set we lose 13-10 against another strong team and are out. But just amazing experience.

I love competing at the BCA and VNEA - great events - great people - great times. I too have "let" fellow AZers go home with money - Mike Page! But don't worry Mike it's just "invested" in your new place. I will collect my share someday :-)

Glad you had a great "first time" there will never be another one like it.

Glad you had a great time! There was only one year I had the opportunity to qualify for VNEA in my area. I went down for BCA for 2 weeks, flew home to work for a couple days, then flew back to Vegas for VNEA.

It was way different than BCA in the amount of international players. That was really cool! I played and played without looking at the board. Finally, I was wondering who I would be playing on the B side if I lost and there WAS NO B SIDE! Unbeknownst to me, it was single elimination!

And the match I went into was the Finals, which I also didn't realize. I had an easy back cut to go around 2 rails for the money ball and the win at the opposite end of the table. I thought to myself, 'Winner Winner Chicken Dinner' or something similar and BAM, I jawed the ball!

Second place was OK though. I am in their Hall of Fame or whatever it is called and got some nice prizes for my only showing there. And the Chips N Suds night was a blast as you can tell from these pics!
