I plan on going to the BCA finals. I am going on a fairly tight budget. What hotels do you guys recommend near the Riviera? What should I expect to spend on a room? Where's the cheap food? I've never been to Vegas and need some advice.

I will probably be arriving late Thursday, so I considered just sweating the action all night and checking in the following morning to save money.

Cheap rooms can be found at the Riv, Circus Circus, Sahara, Frontier. All of these hotels will have reasonably cheap food, and there's a place near Circus Circus (I think it's the Slots-A-Fun) that has HUGE margaritas and even HUGER hotdogs for $1 each.

During the weekdays, Circus Circus is about $50/night. During the weekend, they go up to $125/nigh or so.

Slots Of Fun has the gigantic hot dog for a $1. If you can stomach it, that would be all you'd need for a few days. Your doctor will love you.

You are better off to try to find a room off the strip if you can. Its a little walk but you will save on the room and the food. I have been there about 8 times and it can get exp. if you arnt carefull

Assume you are flying in. Sorry to say several years ago CLARK COUNTY & The State of Nevada killed many of the DEALS as they realized all the Tourist Dollar IN SALES TAXS that was slipping away because of CHEAP ROOMS, and CHEAP FOOD.

The day of the Hacienda Hotel, Flying to LVN for two nights, three days, a bottle of Champaign, and your Air Fair from Burbank CA for $29.00 ALL INCLUSIVE are gone.

Hotels Downtown, Henderson, and off Strip are CHEAPER. Shank Mares are a good method of CHEAP TRANSPORTATION (walking).

Food deals are everywhere if you do Lunch & Breakfast. Many of the out of the way hotels, and Motel offer Shuttle Service to the Strip, than WALK.

Wish I could go, but I have no wheels, and TUMBING is out from PHX.....

Those hotdogs are not food.

Would that be Slots O Fun with the mystery meat dogs?
Also the Vegas Strip is about sold out pf the budget rates - Try Downtown.

Check out www.cheapovegas.com. It has some good information, and if nothing else, the site is very entertaining! The cheapo eats section really helped a lot when I went last year! Have fun.

You have to be careful what you ask for though, Fred... I ordered a gigantic hot dog once and Jimbo showed up.

Westward Ho is the cheapest around $39.00

Beware of the Slot of Fun hot dog which I refer to as a yucky dog, it's just awful.

You will find a good hot dog for a buck along with shrimp cocktail and other items at nickel town in the RIV. They close around midnight except for weekends but they have good food for the money.

I went to www.vegas.com and there is a bunch of stuff there about where the free shows are, good drink specials, food specials. I printed it all out and i am taking it with me.

See you at the FREE show SIRENS OF TI!!

Wish I was going, and I see there are still Deals, in lost wages

The only thing worse than the hotdogs is the water. IMO you'd be missing out if you didn't stay at the venue.

you guys are cracking me up about the hotdogs! I remember thinking they where the best thing since sliced bread when I had my first last year (yes I too was a $1 hot dog virgin once! ) after a major drinking session. A few nights later (and yes two at once if I recall correctly!!!!) I kind of, well went off them lol

Funny thing is its been a year and of course you only remember the "good things" right. Well Im sat opposite the street and I was just thinking about them when i read this thread!

"Don't do it I hear you cry"

.........To be continued lol

PS
Haven't been in yet but I hear tables will be set up tonight

Try to save enough to splurge at least once at the seafood buffet at the Rio! It's my favorite eating spot on earth!

Some advice - its hot in Vegas in May - by the way it is a "dry heat" just like Phoenix (and sometimes Vegas is hotter) - put away some extra bucks to buy bottled water (you probably won't like the tap water) - make sure you drink enough WATER. Lots of people get dehydrated in the desert (Vegas is in the middle of the desert). I know - I lived in the Phoenix desert for 55 years. It doesn't matter that you will be inside most of the time - it sounds like you will be doing some walking from hotel to finals - and being dehydrated is not fun. Take care and good luck

Vegas rooms

I decided at the last minute to go to Vegas...best rates I could find were downtown...hotels on the strip were really high.!

Here are a few tried and true Vegas bargains: The Ambassador East Motel (on Fremont) downtown is servicable, safe, and rates are lowest of all: 25.00 to 40.00 including tax. Sirloin steak dinner with salad, baked potato and vegetable is $4.99, 24-7 at Ellis Island (on Koval Lane). Very good low cost buffets at Palace Station (on Sahara, $6.99 dinner) and Main Street Station (downtown). Huge and tasty 1/2 pound burger with fries or salad at Wild West Casino for $2.25.

Another great deal is the breakfast buffet at the Westward Ho, directly across the road from the Riv. You can fuel up on some super fresh fruit and breakfast food for a very good price, but make sure you save up enough cash to splurge a little bit...I would recommend the weekend buffet at the Bellagio if you're a seafood fan. Another option is to hop on the shuttle from the Riv to the Cue Club and eat there while you watch the action matches, the food is decent and cheap and the action is usually non-stop during the week.

The Real Deal

Well I was going to keep this secret because I don't like it when it gets too crowded. But if you would rather have menu dinners rather than buffets the place to go is The Outback Steakhouse. For the price it is tremendous. I can only speak of what I have every time I go and thats the double lobster tail dinner. Two decent size tails, potato, salad and hot bread. $21 bucks.
I pay 40 to 50 for that dinner at home. It is located in Las Vegas Blvd. right next door to Harrahs. You can take the monorail which now runs the length of the strip and get off at Harrahs station, walk to front of club to Las Vegas Blvd. turn right and it is right there upstairs.
I was impressed with that price in Florida when I was there but vegas for a buck or so more really impressed me and that food was great.
Hope to see ya there. Will be there at least twice in 5 days.
